I highly recommend 34 double D’s as well. They just seem to be perfect in every way.

If you have a steering shaft and a rack input that are parallel to eachother then you will be able to phase and have a canceling effect. But if the joint is becoming out of parallel or worse forced into a compound angle then it may be required to throw one Ujoint out of phase

thanks for the info, i think this is the problem im having on my jeep,I didnt make sure the u joints are in line ...is there another video like you mentioned, where you were going to talk about angularity? when to use double u joints?

Is it ok to install the shaft with the vehicle off the ground on stands or does it need to be on the ground with full weight of the vehicle?

I've noticed some cars have steering shaft U joints slightly out of phase from the factory.... e.g. the 2005 Subaru WRX STI shaft without the rubber damper, the joints are like 15 degrees out of phase or so....Is there any reason they would do that?
@McGregorFilms2249 Жыл бұрын
This in formation about phasing is incorrect. Both ends should be a the maximum angle at the same time. Steering ends should NOT be in line like doubleD at both end unless the shaft is on a single plane. Very rear on a steering shaft.

@arthurmcgregor2249 hey thanks. I still don't really understand this topic- i might need to do a diy build of a steering shaft for my car- is there a completely failsafe way the UJ should be orientated? Can you recommend any technical reading on this topic?
@McGregorFilms2249 Жыл бұрын
Steering UJ's should be at max angle at both ends at the same time. Steering shaft are usually working through two plane. DoubleD shaft at both end should Not be used as as the ends need to be offset.

How about doing a tech tip on motor plates also a mid plate. Doing thing like the best way to mount, just how much can be removed. Can it be used as a spacer. I see them all the time that make a person question is that safe I’m not sure it’s should be used like that. LOL.

I had never thought about this but that could cause issues.

Same principle applies to driveshafts. They’ll bind up if the u joints are clocked correctly
