I have been using 8-core-CPUs for years, as "all" told me 4-6 cores are enough; now I changed to 12 cores last year (fresh AM5 Build with 7900X non 3d, ASRock X670 Steel Legend, 64GB DDR5-6000 CL30 and RTX 4090 for 2x UWQHD). What shall I say: no game, no application that wouldn`t run perfectly and smooth. As I am used to have it since years. Perhaps meanwhile there have been released a few CPUs that are more powerfull than my 7900X, but I´m pretty shure this Combo will last a while before the next upgrade will be neccessary. Many people out there don`t get the difference between "enough" and "fine". Ironically the same people don`t choose their car at same standards. And it`s completely senseless to discuss with them. You are called an idiot and much more when you advice to choose a 8-core-CPU as minimum, because at least 6-core is still enough. Same at all other hardware components. From RAM to GPU, always the same: the lower (cheaper) component is good enough, no reason to spend more money (or better: its unneccessary to senseless to spend more). That you will save money on long sight, when choosing the better components, this people never will understand. How many people for example have to buy a new PSU, because the existent hasn`t enough Power for the new GPU / Setup! 3-5 years old PSUs in perfect condition must be changed, only because back then, depending on 10-20$, they choosed the "enough one". Now they have to spend another 80-100$ for a new PSU. Crazy, stupid, ridiculous.

Both will sustain Windows 11 which I haven't upgraded to and will at the cut off period next year. Will say that both these builds...I own two PC's for redundancy and in the event one fails and both have been flawless....they were a big step up from my previous AMD Phenom II X4 960T Zosma 3.0GHz computer build which was a big step up from Dell Dimension 8200 of 20 years ago with 40G HDD from the factory...lol. To me, in the future, AI will introduce the biggest reason to upgrade and I don't see any reason to upgrade presently Gaming of course dramatically changes the need to upgrade which many of your younger subscribers do of course.

Of course you don't find a difference, they are the same cores. Both of those are Zen 1. Ryzen 7 5700X dropped into both machines would almost double performance and be an impressive improvement. @@TechDeals Good info about the Ryzen 7. There are many analogies in nature. You seem to put a premium on 'speed' as some kid of end all, be all. More speed mattered 5-10 years ago more than it matters today. The conceot is diminishing return. Speed? Let's talk cars. I am a retired automotive engineer who used computers every day in my job from data processing to computer modeling including all designs were created on 3D CAD using Catia to UG. 10 years ago you could walk into a car dealership and buy a car with 400 hp and maybe 500 hp at peak. Today you can walk into a car dealership and purchase an automobile with 1025hp. Is the 1025 hp automobile which is faster than a 500 hp car perceived as better or more fun? No. Diminishing return. More isn't necessary better if the benefit is imperceptible. The reason your wife updated from Intel to Ryzen is because of what 'you' do for a living. She didn't even need the processing capability of her previous gen Intel. What you are engaging in based upon your response is...and I expected more from you, is shameless promotion of your channel. A reason to exist and stay relevant. Reality is, nobody needs the latest computer tech based upon present processing demand. Will there be a watershed breakthough in the future when AI starts to manifest and permeate society? Yes. AI will require in fact the reinvention of computer processing with much more power and processing capability, AI will be the next industrial revolution and reinvent our society as we know it. That time isn't now, just like the cell phone didn't exist in the 1960's.

@lukewalker1051 so what you are telling me is your one sided opinion is the only truth? If you are happy with slow hardware that's fine if you don't use any more than it's capabilities that's fine as well but not everyone is like that. Some people do use their stuff for work and can't be waiting around for their rig to finish its task, time is money.

@@lukewalker1051if you genuinely don't feel a difference between first gen Ryzen and Ryzen 5000 (or even 3000) for what you do, that's fine. But there absolutely is a difference for what I do.

I dont think I'll ever understand the people who are happy to buy a 4090 but think an 8 core CPU is "enough". Like the 4090 was the premium option but so was the mid tier CPU.
@Loky_87 ай бұрын
it is enough if they are just using it for gaming or browsing the web etc.
@mickieg19947 ай бұрын
@@Loky_8 you make a conscious decision to pick the best GPU available, spend hundreds Extra on it incase a game might need it, even though most don't at the moment. But oh no, a game is never gonna use more than 8 cores right? So you don't need that. And it's never "just gaming" either , it's windows, the crap in the system tray, anything else you maybe multitasking, all while some of the games you are playing will want more than 8 cores, so why waste the money on something that's genuinely not good enough for all that, something you are guaranteed to need to upgrade sooner, all to save a minimal amount of money, it's a bad decision and a waste of money to knowingly hamstring your pc like that.
@Loky_87 ай бұрын
@@mickieg1994 honestly I've never had issues with back grounds task running whilst playing games. I play many games that can utilise more then 8 cores just fine no stutters or frame drops all whilst having icue, logitech G hub, hwinfo, msi afterburner, RTSS, Steam, Vortex, Discord and a few tabs open in chrome. Honestly I don't see the issue, I previously had a 12 core CPU and never fully utilised it. 8 Cores is perfectly fine for my use case, i will upgrade again when zen 5 x3d chips release. I was toying with the idea of going with intel but its a dead end platform and id have to upgrade my psu and cooler etc which adds to the cost by quite a bit (UK Prices).

I guess it comes down to budget, if you'd rather put more money into the cpu with am5 or have more for a gpu. Even going with am4 there's still an upgrade path over the 5600 though since amd has newer cpus like 5700x3d.

It would be noticeable. The smoothness of the OS and less in-game stutter/media stutter if you watch higher resolutions. If it's doing what you want you don't have to. 12th-14th/AM5 would be a huge difference I imagine. Both 12700KF & 12900KF were a nice improvement on my 6th & 9th gens (granted I had i5s, 4 cores and 6 cores 9600k). Having more cores and snappier IPC really is like driving a better car daily. Though if it's just casual web surfing both are fine. It would feel noticeable when you hit the desktop and everything is just snappier though.
