Just got a 43" 4K TV and been using it as my main display (dual monitor setup), and I have been liking it quite a bit so far. Though I do think, in my case, I may need to upgrade my hardware. For whatever reason (most likely something to do with Linux being my preferred OS), I have some issues with refresh rate and intermittent issues with 4K 60fps playback. Or those just may be my excuses to update my system:P I think my CPU is probably fine (Intel 5820k), but I feel it's past time to move on from the GTX 970. I've got a new build all planned out, so hopefully in a few months I'll have all that worked out. Good idea for a video, dude. Thanks!
@TechGuyCharlie4 жыл бұрын
Thank you 😊 and a lot of 'experts' recommended against using a 'TV' as a computer monitor, people come up with silly excuses like input lag and blurry text but I haven't experienced any of those issues and this has by far been the best addition to my setup, nothing beats the experience of big screen, plus since its a smart TV, you can watch Netflix and KZbin without turning on the PC. GTX 970 should be able to decode 4K 60 fps videos, I am wondering if its the Nvidia driver issue on Linux.
@ritual3014 жыл бұрын
@@TechGuyCharlie Yeah, I would think that the 970 would be able to handle 4K/60, but it definitely struggles with KZbin content that uses VP9 codec, and other 4K media that pushes beyond 100Mbs. It's not a problem that _always_ occurs, but it occurs enough for me to get slightly annoyed, lol. I am running current drivers, and I don't think that would be it. But, I mean...maybe?? Lol. I love Linux, but it doesn't come without it's quirks. It's all good, all things considered. I also have been super happy with the TV and agree with you 100%. Hi Charlie. Awesome video!! I am not sure if I should buy a 1080p tv or a 4k tv. Would the text and sharpness of a 1080 tv be the same as a 4k tv if using as a computer monitor? I am not getting 4k signal and will use tv for browsing internet and computer work. Thank you very much!!
@TechGuyCharlie3 жыл бұрын
Thank you and let me try and answer, 1. 4K TV will be much sharper than any 1080p TV, if you are comparing the similar size TVs then the pixels are packed much more densely on a 4K display, giving greater sharpness, which is very noticeable while looking at text. 2. A computer will ALWAYS put out 4K signal no matter what you do, web browsing, word processing and gaming, provided you have a graphics card released in the last 4-5 years, or a new laptop. And not to mention a 4K TV will be more future proof, 1080p TVs are on their way out and for anyone buying a new TV above 32inches, I recommend going with a 4K TV.

nice info! I came here cause I just hooked up my desktop to my 65" Sony oled. The picture looks awesome and the computer set everything correctly on its own, no tweaking needed. I did of course still have to change settings just to see what happens, every little change I made just made things look bad lol. I changed the display text from 300% to 150% and the tiny text was unreadable from my couch 8' away. I slightly increased the mouse pointer and it turned out to be over 3" long. I guess maybe it depends on the size of your tv how close you are to the TV and maybe even the graphics card in the computer IDK but the windows 10 300% recommended setting was dead on for my TV.

Wait, is that a coffee mug in your PC case? Awesome tutorial. A few weeks ago I replaced my 34" monitor with a $169 TCL 43" 4k TV, since it's like the cheapest well reviewed TV that can do Chroma 4.4.4 subsampling. It's pretty awesome have such a big cheap screen. I did get really nauseous playing a CODMW level where you had to pan around a lot. I love VR and flying FPV drones, so I didn't think that would happen to me LOL!

That is indeed a coffee mug 😁 it was a gift from someone special, so I kept it inside the case, anyway 169$ for a 43" 4K TV is an epic STEAL!! you know, I just love the immersive view of a big screen while playing games, it feels as if you are actually in the game! A lot of people recommended against a TV as a PC monitor, saying the size would be too but, but a big screen is by far the best upgrade I've done to my setup, once you actually use it, there is no going back. 😊

@TechGuyCharlie3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Ratul, the distance between the TV and my eyes is about 3 - 3.5 feet depending on the position of the chair and keyboard, I've upgraded to a 55' TV and it feels very comfortable, because of the distance, I don't have to move my head that much. Certainly less strain while working on documents and presentations compared to a 23' monitor.

This is great but I’m left with one question still. What if you have a custom display profile for calibrating a 120hz monitor. Is there a way to disable the profile easily just while using the tv as a monitor? Or maybe the better question is does the ICC profile affect the hdmi output or does it use it’s own profile?

Nonetheless the quality is not even close to the streaming shows from TV, neither the video, nor the audio.

Pretty much every TV supports chroma 4:4:4 at 60Hz, even the cheap ones do nowadays. HDMI 2.1 doesn't matter unless you plan to drive the TV at 4K 120hz or 8K 60hz with 4:4:4, that too there are only handful of very expensive models that support the true HDMI 2.1 bandwidth.

Hi Charlie, My computer's Intel UHD Graphics 630 can only handle 30 Hz refresh rate at 4K instead of 60 Hz. Would 30 Hz be ok using the the 4K TV as a computer monitor? I am afraid of mouse lag with only 30 Hz. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
@TechGuyCharlie3 жыл бұрын
At 30hz I can feel the mouse lagging really bad, a minimum of 60hz is a must. You can try dropping the resolution. But if it's a desktop PC then, the best solution is to get a graphics card, any new graphics card will output 4K at 60hz even the cheap ones.

@@TechGuyCharlie My sony x80h will lose the hdmi setting from my pc if I do nothing for about 15 minutes. I have to unplug the hdmi and then plug it in again and it works fine. It also stays strong if i am using the desktop. I have tried using a screensaver and it still does it. thoughts?

One tip here that improved my life was that my TV was set at 30Hz. I changed my television to to 60Hz and now many of my game play at 60FPS like they should. Thank you so much.

HI tnx for this vid. I only have the chromatic problem, when I use the input signal plus, the chromatic disappears, but I do get artifacts in return. Do yo have any idea what I can try to solve this?
@TechGuyCharlie Жыл бұрын
Bad HDMI cable I think? 🤔 hard to pinpoint the problem, could you try with a different HDMI cable?
@Nash-m9x Жыл бұрын
@@TechGuyCharlie Hi tnx for your reply. Yesterday I changed the high-speed hmdi cable for an ultra speed HDMI cable, that did the trick :)

I remember plugging PC to my only screen (TV) for the first time, then I noticed the ultra high delay when using mouse cursor I was like "oooh nononono please tell me this is a joke" until I realized I just had to put the screen to "Game mode", phew, the delay was gone

So I just connected my 40" 4k tv to my computer but it is being used as a 4th monitor. My problem is the font on the TV is large and when I move a window to the TV it is also large. Is there a way to change the font to be smaller only on the TV?
@TechGuyCharlie3 жыл бұрын
Have you tried changing size of text apps and other items under the scale and layout? I think it will change on all your displays, not just on the TV, but do try.
@UltraTyrannomax3 жыл бұрын
@@TechGuyCharlie Yes I have tried that. It's already at the lowest setting which is 100%.

What's the cheapest graphics card to put on my computer to take advantage of my new LG c1 OLED TV that has HDMI 2.1 4K 120 FPS I heard I don't even need HDMI 2.1 to get 4k at 120 FPS

Hey how u doing?❤️ BTW I've a problem with my PC monitor..... I was watching cricket match yesterday in my PC yesterday but suddenly my monitor turns off , and it's not turning on even now . What u think is this my monitor's problem or windows problem?? It's a LCD monitor 🖥️
@TechGuyCharlie4 жыл бұрын
Hey long time!! Glad to see you back here. Its difficult to pinpoint, can be anything from a loose power connection to the cable going bad (very unlikely) but I would start by checking the power led of the monitor, if it lights up then try plugging in something else or wiggling the connector. It's usually always loose power cable or loose hdmi/vga cable.
@Thank_Me_Later4 жыл бұрын
@@TechGuyCharlie I've tried that vga plug ..... But nothing has changed I think I should change my monitor 😔😔 I'm using this Monitor almost 6yrs. But from some days back I'm noticing this issue. And now it's fully turns off. Please recommend me some good monitor brand (FHD) under 30K 🙏

Okay, so I will look into some monitors and ill dm you on Insta! It sounds like power supply problem to me though. What size are you looking for? HP has a really good 27inch FHD IPS monitor.
