The specs are virtually identical but yet the Alienware AW2724DM is much more expensive than the Dell G2724D. Is the price difference justified or should you just get the cheaper monitor?

@@McDudes Not quite. I use a Dell 2007FPb as a second monitor (I know that it's old, but in retrogaming that's an advantage). The identical 2007FP model came in two panel types: one IPS also used in model for businesses that I have, and second VA panel. And there is no way to tell those panel types apart without plugging in the monitor and judging personally or looking at the back on the serial number.

I think the AW3423DW and DWF are the exceptions to this. They were the first to the market with a QD OLED and it was fairly priced ( I know its out of 99% of peoples ranges but it was still very fair ) and was also quickly discounted. I got mine for around £950 ish not long after its release. Then the DWF released and that thing is still competitive in its pricing and constantly on sale. Even at its base price its still competitive and you get an amazing display for how much you pay.

Rtings has a review to show both AW2724DM vs G2724D. USB Hub, 180hz and HDR600 is what you're paying $100 more for. If you don't want any of those things, go with the G2724D, they're basically exact same performance monitor and G2724D has better natural black uniformity/text clarity.

Between a qd OLED monitor and an ips one there's such a gap in image quality that the price premium is completely justified, if you're going to use that monitor for it's intended use (mostly gaming). There's also refresh frequency, connectivity, things such as height adjustable etc that comes into consideration. So, throwing a blanket statement is poor advice. Rather watch reviews first, make sure you know your usage (gaming, office), think about your context (well lit room, potential sun glare on screen...) and only then narrow down your choice.

Hey i have myself a Lenovo G27q-20, that you reviewed previously, thank you for the colour profile btw, it actually fits and helps. I bought it several years ago, i think well before you even made your review. So something i noticed is that the 165Hz mode on it is filthy. You won't notice the issue in games, so it's not at all useless, but desktop use and specialised tests reveal it. For one, slowly moving things can have a faint shadow wandering behind them, regardless of overdrive mode selected, but i suppose that's just overdrive tuning, it could have been done better by the engineering team. And the other is that inversion tests and particular pixel patterns result in strong local flickering. Considering it runs very well at 144Hz without these issues, and is best at 120hz/10-bit, it gives me an impression that this is a 144Hz panel and pushing it to 165Hz was just about possible but probably a step too far. Not that i am anyhow dissatisfied, I actually got exactly what i needed for my combination of diverse use cases, i just have to be conscious about refresh rate selection. So i'm wondering whether the Dell branded monitor you're showing here, whether it has actually a good all-purpose 165Hz mode; or whether they too have stretched their tech a little far; and in turn whether the 180Hz Alienware is the one to actually deliver on the promise of top refresh rate at all times with no drawbacks, which would actually do well towards justifying a good chunk of the price increase.

Is it possible to have a review of the smaller version of this, the Dell G2524H? I have been looking for calibration instructions, and have found very little good information to go on. What I am finding particularly difficult is the processing of black colours, especially when dealing with colour calibration to shake off the 'yellow tint' which comes in its factory settings, and is not very easy to shake off and retain deeper blacks and shadows. Where I am especially stuck is when comparing the same pictures as displayed by my now new monitor, the G2524H (backed by an AMD RX 7900 XTX), and my old monitor the Dell P2414H (which is backed by the far outclassed GeForce GTX 760). And the same images are showing much, much (!) more vivid on my old rig. I just cannot reach the same vibrancy in a basic image vs. image comparison.

I have the G2724D and there is a lot of discussion on them using difference panels in the same model and I'd love to know what panel mine has. Had to return the first one because of excessive backlight bleed, second one came in yesterday and it's a lot better and I'm wondering if the panel is different from the first one I had. There is also two revisions of the monitor (A00 and A01)

You’re slightly misleading, The Alienware sale price is $330 vs dell $250. When buying Alienware you are literally paying $70 more for the brand. Alienware aw2724dm is very pretty vibrant monitor

Sorry but you wrong. Alienware not only has USB HUB, but it has more colors than dell G27, deeper bit panel, has FRC, and eats less energy. Thats more than enough reasons to buy alienware. Dont be wrong, i also wanted to buy this G27, but these reasons are good things. I dont like these RGB lights and design but these panels are not the same.

Like a lot of tech, official specs are often so wide and varied that with the right framing, you could make a potato conform to some electronic spec. Only by watching and reading reviews of actual performance can people hope to get an idea of true value (outside of throwing your money at something and hoping for the best).

it feels like more of an alienware problem than a monitor problem. Alienware is like Razer where they overprice everything and nothing they sell is good value for money. So to sum it up dont waste your money on "premium brands".

Strange, I was thinking the Dell did have RGB. The pictures online make it look like it does? Is it just ambient lighting and angles that make it look like that? Can anyone who has purchased this confirm whether it has RGB or not? Im thinking about buying it and I would prefer not having RGB. Trying to go for a clean/minimalist setup. Thanks

Gotta love this channel 🎉❤ Video request: Best price-performance 4K 120hz monitor on the market? Frame generation made 4K gaming possible so I'm considering the upgrade and since anything more than 120hz for an average human eye is nothing but a marketing scam gimmick any 120+Hz that's affordable enough works.

Obviously Alienware is usually not a great value to performance choice, but it’s surprising that you as a KZbinr doesn’t understand monitors are not only about the refresh rate or resolution. Some times they might have the same specs, but the panel could be different, one could have color accuracy, better motion images, higher brightness, these depends on the quality of the panel and can increase the price of a monitor while being harder to test without actually using it.
