*UPDATE 1:* I've been testing Keychron's newest firmware for a few days now and didn't have a single input that didn't register. Seems like they've fixed the calibration issues. Good stuff. I've also been talking to Akko and they are working very hard on fixing the polling rate issues. They've been responding very well to the feedback and should have a firmware update ready very soon. *UPDATE 2:* Akko's keyboard now runs at 8kHz in all modes with the newest firmware update. Test results here: www.patreon.com/posts/akko-mod007v3-he-109766236 The other issues still are present though.

Honestly it'd be really cool to see you go out and test loads of HE keyboards, it'd be incredibly valuable for comparing HE boards. It'd also be interesting if you could test the deadzones of these switches and not just latency/polling rate, I think that's a huge factor in these keyboards too

I have the Wooting Two Lekker Edition which was the first Wooting with hall effect keys but in a full-size layout. And I gotta say that I love it. That one was a time limited model. But they still have the Wooting Two HE if you need arrow keys. That of course means you get the numeric keypad too which to me is only a plus... I use a high sensitivity fast moving mouse so I only have a travel distance of around 3-5 cm to move from one side of a screen to the other in windows. So the space the keyboard takes up is a non-issue for me.

For the Akko Keyboard (at least under the assumption and the fact that it is very similar to the Gamakay drivers): You just need to turn of the non-stop rapid trigger setting and set the keypress up slider to a high value (4mm) to get a normal rapid-trigger performance.

Not sure about the other keyboards, but for the Akko, it’s definitely worth mentioning that on the switches they use, the magnetic poles are reversed. Meaning that your choices for after market switches are very slim. You also cannot simply spring swap them, since they use a short and fat spring. I have spent quite a bit of money and time trying to get other switches to work before Akko support told me. 60g stock is way too heavy for me, and a bought an Akko since I wanted a true tkl layout, rather than the 80he. But kinda frustrating having to look all over the place for lighter switches. But china has me covered I guess.
@ehdbom

Kind of a big bummer that they haven't invented a true standard for these "new" switches. I just ordered the Keychron one and I don't care so much. There will most likely be more switches made for it and more importantly I will most likely just enjoy the standard ones.

It is what it is I guess. Just gotta be extra careful when buying switches for your he keyboard. It honestly wouldn't be a huge issue to me if the switches used standard springs, but since they don't, gotta buy lighter switches. Only an issue for me since I play vsrgs, and the heavier switches kinda hurt my hands a bit. Wish wooting would make a proper tkl.

@@smoothzee8984 I didn’t disagree with that? What? That’s a given, but no, Esports pros who know what they’re doing aren’t using 1k on 4khz mice. They’re using 4khz. If they aren’t it’s because they just don’t know, they’re pros because they’re insane at the game, not because of mouse knowledge. I agree with you, as an ex Fortnite semi pro ($8k earned) and current Val radiant, I agree. However, you need to read the comment I replied to and mine again. He said “you’d need to input multiple keys at the same time to get 8khz” that isn’t true. That’s what I was talking about, practice reading comprehension instead of worrying about esports. LOL. It’s a sample rate, it’s simply asking the keyboard for new inputs at 8x the normal rate, you don’t need to press multiple keys to hit 8khz like you need to move a mouse like crazy, different ways that they poll since mice use optical sensors. Again, wooting talk about this on their channel. Maybe learn some hardware engineering before you argue with the best keyboard company in the business. Also, nobody is saying it’ll make you better lol, it’s like a multiplier, most players sit at a value of 0 in most games, 0x1.001 better technology is still zero, however, for players above that range, like pros or top 500 in the region, .999x1.001 will make you better as long as you can take advantage of it, speaking purely scientifically, lower delay to your actions, regardless of how minuscule, paired with better consistency in polling cuz of higher rates, means you are now acting faster. Won’t make ya noticeably better, but technically, you are.

Just with every single keyboard I get, when I got the Q1 HE, the first thing I did was lube the stabs, changed to 1.8mm cherry profile key caps from Epomaker that only cost like 30 USD, and put kilmat under the keys that used stabs other than the caps lock and enter keys due to the profiles being too low for the kilmat mod. I also just went the lazy route and top lubed the switches, sounds A LOT better than my modded 60 HE(about 400-450 USD after all the mods) afterwards, and the wireless part is also really really nice due to my setup. The amount I spent on the Q1HE mod-wise was like, under 35 bucks lol.

This is just my opinion, but I don't think there is much to be gained from polling a keyboard higher than 1 Khz. The dynamic range of the input data seen from a mouse in comparison is far greater. I'm a massive fan of my 60he, and I don't really think I'd gain anything if I could play with it at higher polling rates. I definitely wouldn't count it as a negative to have the option though. I think it would be cooler if we could see the hall effect rapid trigger thing in a wireless option though.

your measured polling rate for the akko keyboard might be wrong. I have monsgeek m1w HE (basically akko) when i test it with the same software i get a polling rate lower than 1000 with or without roar mode. I talked to akko about it and they told me you must set the binning rate to 16,000 when youre testing a 8k polling rate keyboard. After changing the binning rate i was able to get a polling rate of 8k Hz with and without roar mode, additionally, even with roar mode on non roar mode keys still got a polling rate of 8k Hz. would it be possible to repeat your tests for the akko and tell me if you get 8k Hz then? (also this might apply to the AE68 as well). Another thing worth noting is if you set the binning rate to 16,000 and use a keybaord with 1k Hz it will still display 1k Hz

I used both 16k and 32k binning and got a pretty clean 8 kHz result for the roar-keys. So I'm pretty confident that this is true 8 kHz polling. Of course I tried 16k and 32k binnig for the other modes as well, but the results clearly show that it's not 8 kHz polling - not even close. Glad to hear though that your Monsgeek does a better job ✌️

There aren’t many people talking about the other HE keyboards other then the wooting, so it was nice to know what the other companies are up to, and see if there would be a better option for me other than the wooting. I really was looking forward to a 75% layout with a knob, so the keychron one sounds really appealing to me, but I don’t know if I should go with the 80he with the metal case they offer, which would end up being $300+, which is a little pricey for me, or just go with the fully built keychron for around $200.

I'd go a step further and say that it's not only necessary to have a hardware button for profile switching, but also to have it automatic depending on what application is in focus. I tab away from my game/main monitor very frequently and it would drive me insane if that didn't also change my profile. The model on my radar at the moment is the new Wooting 80HE since I also want the arrowkeys. Still waiting for a sound test of its metal chassi though.

Trivia: The first Hall Effect keyboard was introduced by Micro Switch, a division of Honeywell, in the early 1960s. Specifically, Micro Switch developed and released the first Hall Effect keyboard in 1968. These keyboards were designed for high-reliability applications, where durability and longevity were crucial, such as in industrial and military settings. The use of Hall Effect sensors allowed these keyboards to have a much longer lifespan compared to mechanical contact-based keyboards. The contactless nature of Hall Effect switches meant that there was no physical wear and tear on the electrical contacts, which significantly improved the reliability and durability of the keys. Honeywell’s introduction of Hall Effect keyboards was a significant innovation at the time, setting the stage for the use of this technology in various other input devices. These keyboards were known for their robustness, making them suitable for harsh environments where traditional mechanical keyboards might fail

about the akkos rapid trigger it's just a bad software problem thats not so straight forward if you for example set actuation 1.0 and release 2.0 then rapid trigger will only work in that range, logic is you hit 1.0 to activate but if you release sooner than hitting 2.0 it will deactivate cuz depth is already higher than 2.0, in the same sense if you press before hitting 1.0 again it will trigger cuz depth is already lower than 1.0

I have a question that doesnt seem very well documented. Personally, I have a bad reaction time so I am more interested in how these could potentially make story games more cinematic. How many of these support gradual movement like a joystick? I heard Wooting had this feature but I couldn’t dig up much info on how it works. Does this feature work across all games or only games that support a walk keybind (essentially two inputs programmed to a single key)? If the feature works in all games then I would definitely be interested. If it’s reliant on the games programming in a walk input then I have no interest in the tech for my personal setup.
@paleopasha
@paleopasha 5 ай бұрын
Well there’s sort of two ways to do this, and wooting or keychron can do both (allegedly keychron, I don’t have one). There’s an advanced keystroke option that Wooting has called Dynamic keystroke (DKS). Keychron has it too but idk what it’s called. Basically it allows you to do a different action based on how far you push the key in. So for instance you could make it so if you only push the w key in a little bit then you will walk and you could make it so that if you push it all the way in, that it will do w + shift to sprint. That should work with any game with separate walk/run bindings or combos. The other option is actual analog input. I believe that only wooting and keychron have this at this time. Though I’ve only tried wooting’s implementation which is really good. It basically allows you to simulate a controller input with a key. So you could have the W key be emulated as pressing the left stick forward, or a shoulder trigger movement. How far the switch is pushed is like how far the stick or trigger moves. You can even set the analog curve to be exactly how you want it, and even exact angle adjustment when pressing two stick directions at the same time. It’s extremely thorough. Unfortunately it’s often up to the game as to whether they play nice with mixed movement between controller and mouse. Some games won’t allow you to use both at the same time or the UI prompts will constantly flicker between controller and keyboard when you move and also look around with mouse. Some games do allow you to lock UI prompts and play great with it. Or you can simply turn them off if you know the game well enough. I’d say at least one of those two methods would work well enough in a good 90% of games.
@lego_minifig

@@paleopasha thank you for the in depth response! Sounds like the compatibility would be similar to mixing controller and keyboard inputs on a steam deck. Have been enjoying the Akko yotd for a while now. Bought their first batch and the hardware had been perfect so far. I have some minor gripes for the software but that could always get better later on. Honestly I just set everything to .5 actuation and non stop RT and left it there. In terms of the polling rate problem. I believe they have said something in their discord that they’re either investigating the problem or figuring out why the measuring is having problems? Also have been considering getting the drunkdeer since they have been fixing problems with their firmware and I believe they also have a web driver.

Waiting for a HE keeb that sounds good. Then ill lap it up. The only thing the Wooting needs is probably some gasket mounting, and beter slightly stabs (Whcih I would presume one can change on it) and it will sound substantially better

hey guys so i have a question what i saw with those wooting or magnetic mechanical switches is they don't have a mechanical pin basically they operates on those magnets so do these switches uses a separate pcb or something can i use those magnetic switches in a regular 3pin/5pin mechanical pcb

I just watched a video on the Razer Huntsman V3 which seems to possibly even have an edge over the Wooting because of their key-switch technique. I'd love an update video where you compare that feature with the Wooting and other alternatives (as I am NOT a fan of Razer lol)

1) Can optical keep up? 2) Which keyboard support joystick (analog output) emulation? 3) What about dozen AliExpress options? Bonus - is low profile ever possible (hall/optical)?
@WalkMrJ
@WalkMrJ 2 ай бұрын
1) Optical can't reset the actuation point. It's more reliable than traditional mechanical switches though. 2) Razer. Although in theory, every HE keyboard should be able to support analog. Some brands have said they will try and work support in to their software in the future. 3) They're usually akko clones. 4) The majority of HE switches on the market are near identical in dimensions to mechanical switches.

great for gamers since they dont really care about sound and feel, just want fast. but coming from custom keyboard, any mag switch on the market right now just sounds horrible. until recently QK65V2 Classic with Gateron lavender Mag switch, actually sounds like normal switch now. but this also tells me the tend is just starting, and hopefully, normal switch gonna phase out, all new switch, pcb are all mags, its literally the future for sure.
