Ok guys, DO NOT attempt to swap out battery like this guy is doing. He is turning a safe replacement to a very dangerous one. Here are some reasons why his replacement is quite terrible: 1.) You risk breaking your ribbon cables. 2.) You make an easy replacement difficult 3.) You also risk bending the heatpipe, breaking your cooling 4.) Don't use cheap garbage thermal paste, use proper quality one, especially thick ones like IC Diamond are prefrable since the fit is quite bad on the surface Pro 4 5.) If you want to disconnect the battery, most people loosen some screws from the logicboard and shove a piece of paper between battery and board. No soldering required. 6.) I don't think I have to explain why playing with a high heat Soldering Iron around a high flamable battery is a braindead idea. One slip and you have a fire in your house 7.) Do NOT force the battery out of the SP4 like that, you risk puncuring it and causing a fire. Do it like most repairshops with a wire and isoalcohol 99%, it's way smoother and way lower risk of accidently causing a fire. 8.) Youre making a process that takes roughly 15minute process to over an hour process.

This is just an alternative method. Works great for me it may not work out for you. It is very risky as I mentioned in the video.

You might find some 1/4" ptfe rod filed the same as your green tools is better as it's the material used on desoldering pumps and pretty heat resistant. Should cost a couple of bucks.

Which version of surface pro 4 is this? It looks like you have the fan version. Does the i5-6300U version is fanless? Also does the nvme ssd supports pcie 3 x4? The built in only has pcie 3 x2 speed, so planned to upgrade mine.

Commenting as an electronic engineer, as others have already commented, an insane (and dangerous) way to remove the battery. Do NOT do it this way.

Just replaced the battery in mine today, and hopefully it turns on tomorrow because there's no thermal paste in the house. The battery was so swollen, I didn't even need to do anything to remove the screen... Probably should have done this repair two years ago.

I don’t understand why he thinks disconnecting the screen is such a problem. If the device is turned off just pulling off the two cables is not going to pop anything. Leaving them connected you are 10x more likely to damage screen or cables or something. Plus it is a massive pain to have to hold it up all the time.

OMG , takes two mins to unplug screen from connectors and take out battery safely , he is playing with highly flammable Lithium Batteries wich causes fire almost instantly if not handled properly as of this i would NEVER send my equipment there to repair.....

You might be lucky and simply have an UEFI bug caused by the fact that the SSD corrupted or lost the hibernate file due to the disconnect of the battery, which people refer as "the black screen of death". Try to hold the power button + volume up button for 30 seconds or so, then it should either start up or you try to start it up again.

It’s actually hard to describe in the title. But basically if you were listening the screen is not getting disconnected in order to prevent the fuse from blowing. It happens when you’re disconnecting and reconnecting the screen.

@@TechMDKZbin What are you talking about. You can literally connect and disconnect the screen without any fuse breaking even if the surface is operating. Infact I have done this several times to test an old screen which had touch issues, while it's better to shut the device off the extremely tiny minimal risk of blowing a fuse is way better than risking a literal fire hazard.

@@TechMDKZbin EDIT: nvm read to quickly. They shouldnt ever short. I have no clue what you're doing but I have yet to short anything without me being insanely stupid. The only time I ruined something was killing the diode for the battery because I shorted a cap due to some modding attempts. I literally cannot see how anyone would short the logicboard without actively trying to do so or being extremely careless (like me on the modding).
