I don't know if this is what he does, but in another game I can cycle through items really quick mostly because each type of item has its own slot in the inventory. So if I'm looking for consumables or utility items I kinda instinctively know the general location of where I should look. It could be that he always places those items in those specific slots so he can always make quick decisions.

@@4000underIn the Dream SMP after Techno’s execution, he was going to lead his horse down a tunnel with a lead, but he didn’t have one. Oh wait, he DID have one, he just didn’t notice. The difference is that in the tunnel, Techno actually had to shift click on the lead to put it in his inventory, and he still forgot about it. In this clip, he just walks over it and it happens to go into his hot bar. While it’s entirely possible that he did in fact notice and was just committed to the bit, it’s ALSO entirely possible that he just didn’t notice it. TLDR; It would not be the only time he’s forgotten about something in his inventory
