I thought he was reffering to the other DDR which broke apart in 1989... Because here in germany the GDR was called DDR... because here it was known as the "Deutsche demokratische Republik" (German democratic republik) not to be confused with the "Bunderepublik Deutschland" (Federal Republic of Germany) which exists today, with the addition of the old GDR states. But even the year didnt made any sense... so what ever... just thought about some weird america/canadian thing that i'm too german to understand.

Too sad the video is very misinformative actually then
@4Devianz4 жыл бұрын
@@kmanev how so? not to imply i know more than you or such, just curious as to what aspect was misinformative
@kmanev4 жыл бұрын
@@4Devianz Although it is true that the newer DDR the more banks it has, this is not necessarily all a positive thing. They talk about how the bandwidth between the IO module and the banks increases theoretically, BUT the "connection" between the CPU and the DDR's IO is the same (for the same DDR frequency). Additionally, if you have 8 banks and your speeds for each bank is 1/8 of the speed of the CPU-DDR speed, then that is not good, since if all the data you want to get/set is only in one of the banks then you are bound not by the CPU-DDR speed, but to 1/8 of that. Recently I had a problem with DDR4's groups of banks. So instead of doing 16 banks, DDR4 would usually will do 4 groups of 4 banks each (at least that was what I had to work with). My issue was that each of the groups had only 1 precharger shared for all 4 banks in it. If you don't spread out your memory accesses good enough in all 4 groups, then you will have penalties for waiting the prechargers... So maybe I was too harsh in my comment up, but in my opinion going for larger generational numbers is not all pink ("hey guys we doubled the speed with our enormous technological efforts") and is partly just to increase sales with not so perfect technology to be honest. I would guess that a 2133MHz DDR3 will be faster in reality than 2133MHz DDR4. The difference is that DDR4 would have higher speeds, of course (>3000MHz). Edit: not sure if that got clear, so let me give example: If you pause on 2:02 you will see that DDR2 has 4 and DDR4 has 8 connection to the "Memory Cell Array". In reality these 8 connections are to 8 different "Arrays" of 1/8 size each. The problem is if all your data is skewed into 1 of these 8 arrays, then you can in reality use only 1 of these 8 magical connections. Of course CPU caches and memory organization by the system help a lot in hiding that!
