I'm about to do a 7ft & 14ft tree with 600 & 1800 lights. Is it ok to OVERLAP the lights from the different strands, or do I have to do "layers" from the bottom up? Just wondering if the mapping function fixes it. Thanks for the great video!

​​@@P0LSKII have 2400 (4x600 Twinkly RGB+W strings) on my "King of Christmas" 8.5ft Tribeca Blue Spruce Artificial Unlit Christmas Tree. I literally just went from bottom to top weaving in and out of each and every single branch overlapping the strands I just made sure that there wasn't a bulb on top of another bulb as much as possible unlike lighting a traditional tree my tree is packed with these leds my wife jokes that our tree almost has as much resolution as our 4k OLED tv. And yes the mapping can tell where each individual led is and maps them accordingly as long as they are all grouped together.

I just broke down and bought these and they are pretty awesome, however they would be even better with an easy app upgrade. When creating a custom pattern via drawing with your finger there should be a record button that records your actions and then can save it and play it back as an animation. For instance, if I draw a straight line down the middle of the tree in one color and then down the side and another color and so on, it should play that back as an animation.

My question is: if the tree is placed in the corner of the room, it turns out that we will see only the outer part and the lights look more beautiful and rich, I want to dress the tree with a set of 250 LED's from the outside and put it on 2D mode. What do you think? At the moment I have ordered such a kit and I am thinking how best to get it. My tree is 180cm. Hope to get a professional answer)

I will definitely keep an eye out for these in the future when watching you play with the lights patterns and more. I instantly thought of a great big light wall or Griswald Christmas. Was thinking what if got 100+ of these and hooked them all up, had snowmen or deer walking across the house, or Santa and a sleigh made of lights. Eventually, they may get to an economy of scale where could do this. But as now that would be a bit expensive. But is intresting to see how they mixed old and new tec.

Can you set them, or is there a template, where seemingly random lights "twinkle" (by that i mean not a sudden on/off blink, but something gentler) and the rest stay on? So I just got my 400 light set up and got everything all set up, including connecting it to my GH. I did the set up the same way you did but mine always says " not responding " and " off line ". Was curious if you might have any suggestions? Didn't know if I should just completely delete everything and set it up again? Edit- I have the Google nest WiFi and I wonder if it's due to the lights being on 2.4 and my phone on 5.0? Not sure if I can switch my phone to check since the WiFi connects automatically.

Great video, Brett, so informative and well paced; not too fast and not too slow. Question: I currently have incandescent minilights with 10 different colors including magenta, teal and chartreuse. Yes, chartreuse. I actually reseated 900 bulbs myself to create a gradient rainbow effect. I want to do something similar with LEDs--can the fixed mode in Twinkly be set with 10 different colors randomly? If not, how many nearby bulbs have to be the same color?

If you're serious enough to reseat 900 bulbs, and you're extremely specific, and in particular if you want them static, you may be better off with addressable LED lights. You can create effects but you can see that the drawing is with fingertips on a small phone screen and I bet it's not going to be what you want.

So I bought 4 boxes of the 600 RGB+W and have them around an outside tree and all the eves and dormers on my house! It looks good, but when you run these lights in a straight line the effects are not as impressive as when you have like around a tree! I’m going to try a couple of the curtain lights for the porch and see if that helps any? With my experience they need to be “bunched together to get the desired effects on the app”? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Where does the music come from? Is it the dongle/usb attachment?

So you play the music from what ever speaker or device you have that can do that. The little Twinkly Music dongle just listens to the music to move to bounce the lights.

@Tech with Bret happy new year 2022 to you and the family. Are used to have some lights that would react to my stereo music they were just a set of Christmas lights connected to a circuit for the reaction to voice some music. Now I know that these have music device attached to it. But all these lines react to voice or music of any kind that you play from your Device? If so then I can repair the lights I have seen the lights I have her own and then use the big Christmas lights that used to go on the outside of my house they were made by a company that RadioShack dealt with and I was like to replace the lights with when I see you there on the Christmas tree. I hope your answer is yes they will react to sound voice or any kind of music playing from in device aside from that holiday selection comes with the lights. Thank you for your time. I would even like to apply them to my mobility scooter for safety purposes should I go out at night time I want to figure out how to do that that is how I came across your video now. I figure I could use a USB external power supply 5 V put it on my Mobility scooter think about the lamp in an hour want.

@@davidlatty I only had the one set of 250. I think 600 would have made look amazing. The tree wasn't as wide as many of the other trees I have seen so that is probably why this set worked.

​@@davidlattyyou should have a minimum of 100 lights for every 1ft of tree but that number is the recommendation for using traditional bulb lights. From my experience if you're using Twinkly smart LEDs you need to triple that number and do 300 per 1ft of tree otherwise most of the patterns look like crap.

​@@TechWithBrettfrom personal experience 300+ LEDs per foot of tree works best so for your tree I would go with 3 times 600 RGB+W Twinkly strings you would think it is overkill but from my personal experience most of the patterns look like garbage if you have any gaps bigger than 2 inches between bulbs. you can thank me later if you experiment.
