Brendan Hunt (Beard) wrote about Ted not being at the wedding in an AMA on Reddit. He talked about how some friends are like that - you're very close, whether you're near one another or not. And it would have been anticlimactic to have Ted back so quickly. He told a story about one of his closest friends getting married and he just couldn't go for whatever reason, and they're still the closest of friends.

I think the reason why Ted isn't in the wedding is because it's to show that they're all doing all right after spending time with Ted. Yes, I agree he would be there but I feel it's done more for the theme of the show. Great that Rebecca met her man. 46:15 Nice observation on sports-related entertainment from Pat. I actually heard about the show back in Season One from another soccer fan. He told me the basic premise, and I thought it sounded ridiculous. Man, was I ever wrong. About halfway through the season, it hit me - Ted may never have coached soccer, but he was still a *coach*. He knew how to motivate young athletes to perform at their best, and even how to become better people. Quick aside on Keely's plan to start a female club at AFC Richmond: womens' football is booming in the UK (especially in England). They were taken aback by how good the US Womens' National Team became in the late '80s-early '90s, and had one of their "We invented this game!!" moments.

Also the pilot and his daughter certainly become Rebecca's family in a way (we see them showing up together at the party at the Higgins's house) but they made a point about the media referring to her as Richmond's "matriarch" -- she's the team's mother. They're her family.

THE SUNDAY RUNDOWN! I VERY much appreciate navi bringing up kintsugi. The Japanese art of repairing pottery with gold or other valuable materials. Trust Pat to laugh hysterically at the little girl falling over. Seems some of you guys are still a little reluctant to forgive Nate, but when thinking about his character arc I think it's important to consider his relationship with Ted and the behaviour he exhibited in relation to the conversation he had with his father towards the end of this final season. From that discussion it became clear that Nate was carrying around a lot of pain and resentment towards his father as he felt that no matter how hard he worked and what he achieved, nothing was ever good enough for him. Thinking back to Ted first arriving at Richmond, he pretty quickly became the first person that Nate looked up to, the first person of authority, to have ever praised Nate and ask for and value his opinions. Nate finally felt seen, finally felt that he had earned the approval of someone he admired and wanted to make proud. However, when Ted stopped praising Nate so much and explicitly seeking his input because Ted was too busy dealing with his own issues (the break down of his marriage, his anxiety, etc), I think Nate felt abandoned and projected many of his unresolved feelings for his father onto Ted, causing him to act out in the ways we saw.

@36:20 - Coach Beard / Brendan Hunt talked about that in reference to some real life things where he couldn't be at good friend's wedding simply due to timing conflicts that couldn't be fixed and how it means nothing as to how it affects their friendship. And yes, the edit of doing the flash forward ahead of the "now" of him getting off the plan and seeing his son was extra reason that they didn't have him in the shots of the rest of the people's near future.

For Ted not being at Beard's wedding - that's just an editing/storytelling problem. They needed to end with Ted's return and on Ted's face, but they wanted to do the "Montage of everyone's endings". There's obviously months worth of moments that all happen "while Ted is flying". It's logic put aside to tell the story they wanted to tell.

I think a lot of Nate's issue is that he saw his skill and felt that he should be a coach because of it. The triangle that is up on Ted's wall shows the foundation which involves building Friendship, loyalty, cooperation, Enthusiasm and Industriousness. Nate Inverted that triangle and placed "Greatness" at the top making the triangle lopsided. He then tried building that friendship afterwards with his Wish version of the Diamond Dogs. (BTW: before Nate left, Beard was reading Inverting the Triangle or something like that).

The offside rule was invented (and refined) to prevent teams from camping next to the opponent's goal. When the attacking team passes the ball towards the goal line and a receiving player of the attacking team is closer to the goal line than at least 2 opponent players (including the goalkeeper) its called offside - free kick for the other team. if the receiving player is still in the own half of the pitch when the ball is played it is no offside. also no offside possible from corner-kicks or throw-ins.

Becs was also at the Higgins BBQ sitting with Richard… The first thing I noticed was that Ted wasn’t at his best friend’s wedding…which he definitely would have been months later…but they obviously didn’t want to confuse viewers by showing him there during the closing reveals. As successful as the series was…I think we can be certain that Apple and the producers aren’t going miss the opportunity to continue on with nearly the entire cast in a continuation or spinoff…my guess is that it will be called “Greyhounds”. They can get everyone to continue on…and Ted could even make occasional cameos.

It's a dream AND it happened. Ted Lasso has a lot of surrealist elements throughout, some more subtle than others. Like Beard's drug trip... not subtle. I mean, think about the entire Zava arc. That's NOT realism done badly, it's not quite camp, it's something else. This is never intended as a literal, realistic show. A lot of it is structured in a fantastical way, and a lot of the story telling is kind of out of step with what you *think* you're watching. Anyway, all that to say, I don't think it's a contradiction or confused writing, or even meant to be ambiguous. I think we are meant to understand the ending as absolutely truthful and cannon, but also understand that it's all the things Ted sees in a flash while he sleeps on his way home. (As a note: I think the meaning would have come through clearer if the third season was a little tighter overall. I enjoyed all of it, but it certainly wasn't as focused as the first two seasons. I'm pretty sure I heard at some point that one of the primary editors left the show after season two, and I think that had an impact on how effective the storytelling is, even if the emotional impact is still very strong.)

And give me a break, all this hate for Roy and Jaime fighting over Keeley, obviously she gets to make her own choice, but if these two men are going to be in each other's lives this is something they have to work out amongst each other too, sheesh, trying to act like there wouldn't be any consequences. If she chooses to be shitty about it, both of them might decide they're better off without her and just stay friends with each other. Neither the man nor the woman have some kind of final say, a relationship is a partnership and it takes two willing participants.

As far as Ted not being at Beard's wedding go, here's a quote from an AMA Brendan Hunt (Beard) did after the episode aired on that subject: "There are a few reasons. The first is narrative: Ted just got on a plane and left the UK, it would be anticlimactic and deflating if we suddenly see him back there before we even see his plane lands. The other is that that’s just the kind of friendship Ted and Beard have. Case in point is me and Joe Kelly, co-creator of Ted Lasso and one of the best friends I’ll ever know. A few years ago I get an email from him and his fantastic girlfriend that they are getting married in LESS THAN A MONTH. The email clearly stated “no worries if it’s too short of notice” which was awfully nice of them; I desperately wanted to be there but I couldn’t. They had scheduled to wedding the same day as a show I was doing in another city, if I recall correctly. So I missed the wedding, and guess what: no one cares! Our relationship is the exact same, our families live down the street from each other and we see each other all the time. So personally I think Beard called Ted and told him he could sit this one out, and Ted said thanks, because the ceremony conflicted with a big game for Henry’s soccer team. The history of their relationship IMO is long periods of seeing each other and long periods not. We have entered one of the latter, but the former will come around again at some point. They love each other, they will see each other again. They love each other, they will see each other again."

if you notice right after beards wedding. ted wakes up in the plane and the color/reflection of the sun is the same on teds face. so ted is probably dreaming of the future

They've since said in interviews that the stuff we see all actually happened.

Jamie yelling for the ball was from one of the first episodes. Jamie didn’t want to run that play

The guy who played Beard suggested Ted just couldn't make the wedding because Henry had a big game, and Beard was fine with that, but I think there's a bunch of other ways you can justify it too. My first thought was that he was there, and we were seeing that scene through his eyes. (My other thought was Covid, because even a mild bout can quarantine you, but I don't think Covid exists in the Ted Lasso world.)

How many shares do you think Ted went home with? Did he buy them, or did she or they give them to him?

Sign me up for this being the series finale but us getting the female Richmond soccer club as a spin-off. Another uplifting show but maybe this time the coach (manager) is the one who has the evolution from a rough person to a great happy individual.

You guys should look up all the references and callbacks in this episode. You caught a lot but there are tons more.

Y'all are serious haters. Every episode you mostly said you liked each episode...yet here you are saying you didn't like it? I feel some of you are caving to the others 'peer' pressure of not liking certain things. Also I still can't get over some of your critiques which are just way off base, like being annoyed Ted went to shake Nates hand at the end of that one game- thats a normal 'Football' decorum.

While Season 3 itself wasn't perfect, I think the finale itself was an incredible send-off to these characters and setting that I will definitely miss. Overall, this was an amazing show and I am going to miss Ted. Hope they do a spin-off if some of the crew is still interested.

Jamie has the best character growth in the show. MVP. Rebecca is right up near him. I didn't fully buy the Nate thing. I got the 'what' was happening although it seemed to go from about 50% formed near the end of season 2 all the way to 100% in a single hit. I get that there is an attempt at 'why'. But I don't overly buy into the 'why'. Not like some of the others. Rebecca is the Wizard. She can't hook up with Dorothy.

"Why is there Ted? I don't believe that part" Are we watching the same show? It's insanely obvious why Ted would show up to the marriage of his best friend.

I def commented on Suraj and Navi not liking the show anymore. To each their own, I loved all 3 seasons. I think they are ending it a perfect time and not stretching it out for more awards and money.

They miss a lot of the nuances, funny moments, and call backs because they’re busy talking over the show. I’m not surprised they didn’t like it since they miss so much by constantly talking, which is understandable since if they were silent and paid attention, they’d be open to accusations that they’re just making money off watching someone else’s IP.
