It had just reached the scene where George Bailey was about to jump into the river and drown himself, but the angel arrived and jumped in first. The parallel is Rebecca showing up to save Ted on Christmas, like Clarence shows up to save George.

Easter egg: the school bully's name (Bernard) is also a LOVE ACTUALLY reference - Richard Curtis (who wrote LOVE ACTUALLY) puts a character named Bernard in most of his movies and tv shows - because his girlfriend at university left Curtis to marry a man named Bernard. So if there's an idiot or asshole in a movie or tv show Curtis wrote, their name will probably be Bernard.

fun fact about this episode and episode nine (beard after hours) - originally, they had a 10-episode order for season two from apple tv, but apple ordered two more episodes. because the writers had already set up the plot structure for the ten-episode season, they chose to include two stand alone episodes that they could drop in without having to restructure their plot, deciding to place them "when shit was about to go down". also - hannah waddingham (rebecca) was originally meant to use pre-recorded vocals for the final section of the episode, but instead asked to be able to record them live. just a cool little touch :)

For a filler episode, it was surprisingly entertaining and heartwarming. The reactions to Phoebe's breath were hilarious, poor kid. Something tells me that there may be more 'ussies' in the future, too. That guy seems to keep coming back.

This was made as a stand-alone episode, because Apple ordered 2 extra episodes after the rest was the Season was written. I've got mixed feelings on this one, personally--its a little too conventional and on the nose for me with the messaging--but the stand-alone episode later in the season (you'll know it when you see it) is MUCH more interesting (although divisive among the show fans).
