The darts scene with Ted and Rupert is one of my favorite scene in the entire series.

Same! I think it's that scene when I really fell in love with the show. I did really like it before then, but this particular scene really moved me. The panic attack scene was a close second, but it was a bit uncomfy because it hit too close to home.

The actress that plays Rebecca is actually a huge West End star known for her amazing singing voice.
@7rollface
@7rollface Жыл бұрын
Yup. In the show she deliberately sings less well than she actually can, because she reasons that she's a professional singer but Rebecca isn't. So however good anybody thinks she is in the show, be aware that that's her singing badly on purpose and she's really much better.

Jason Sudekeis and Bill Lawrence didn't know Hannah Waddington could sing when she auditioned for the role with them. Reputedly, after reading her CV after the audition, they actually realised she was a big West End star, and Bill lamented "It is a pity that Rebecca doesn't sing," to which Jason replied "She does now." And Hannah had the job.

"Be curious, not judgemental" is probably my favorite quote of the show. Being continually curious is one of the most important character traits a person can have, in my estimation. To learn about the world around you, to see experiences outside of your own, to question the things you are told, to question the things that you yourself believe. They're so important. It's what allows you to keep growing as a person, and there are too many fully grown adults who have barely even started on the journey.

What I love about that darts scene, besides the overall message behind it, is that Ted doesn't just kick Rupert's ass in darts and then tell him to fuck off. He uses it as a teachable moment to try and show Rupert why his approach to life in general lost him this darts game and will ultimately end with him losing everyone in his life too. Even for evil ass jerks like Rupert, Ted tries to be a force for positive change.

I just binged Seasons 1 & 2 last weekend after saying I would watch this show for ages. So good! When Ted casually mentions his Dad passed away when he was 16, while he was playing Darts 🎯 I instantly teared 😢up. Such a subtle tender comment thrown in outta the blue. They really know how to turn it on and off in this show. So well done!

Hanna Waddingham has basically lived in the musical theater part of the West End for almost her entire career. Her biggest role before this is the "Shame Nun" from Game of Thrones. She is a 6ft blonde with a very Hourglass figure. Her TV and Movie appearances usually had her typecast as a bimbo.

0 seconds ago Food is one of the best roads to friendship. Roy and Jamie toasting was even a clear brief cessation of hostilities, Danny Rojo’s gift of alcohol. Ted and Trent’s Indian meal, the gift to Sam of some home country snacks, the show really focuses on the ritual of sharing, giving, ritualizing food. Ted’s peanut butter thing is kinda personal but I totally do that.

Going from the amazement at Rebecca's voice, laughing at Roy mouthing the words to Let it Go, to Roy's panic attack so quickly is why I love this show. Emotions and the way you feel about a character can change in an instant. Going to reiterate a future reaction suggestion; "Shrinking", another Bill Lawrence show that is just as good as Lasso.

Great bits in these episodes include Roy mouthing the words to Let It Go, because he's watched the movie probably a hundred times with Phoebe. I also caught Ted sandbagging the darts challenge right away. Being a left hander myself, I immediately notice when anybody else is, so I had seen Ted doing left handed stuff previously and him throwing the first dart right handed also stood out. When Ted is leaving Sassy in his hotel room, he makes a very off the cuff joke that I think almost nobody gets, but had me just rolling. He says that he will be her "Underhills". This is from the 1980's Chevy Chase movie Fletch, where Chevy's character goes to a tennis club and pretends to be a guest of the Underhills and charges an extravagant $400 lunch to their bill without them knowing. Then at the end of the movie he goes on a vacation to Brazil and the ending narration is "By the way, I charged the whole trip to the Underhill's American Express card. Want the number?".

I don't think I've seen anyone comment on this, but Roy getting in Nate's face during the pregame talk is actually him being supportive in his own way. He knows that whatever Nate has to say is good, and he knows that he's got the confidence to say it if pushed. Roy also, I think, has caught on to what Coach Lasso is doing (both in general and in this instance) and is stepping up and supporting him like a leader should. On top of it all, Roy is a man of few words with a lot to say and lets his actions do that speaking for him. So I think it's entirely appropriate to read into what he does.

I'm not a fan of text messages, I'll reply when I feel like it. It's an uneven social interaction, the sender gets to collect their thought and strategize, while the one receiving supposed to drop everything they're doing get in the right headspace and reply? Not to mention how much nuance gets lost with text only.

Higgins standing up to Rebecca also had him pointing out that she’s not only hurting others who did nothing wrong to her, but also herself; her friend Flo aka Sassy, who also shows contempt for Rupert, outright says her bestie isn’t by nature cold and implies how the relationship has negatively affected Rebecca. Playing her foul ex’s game isn’t a net positive, but at this point she’s yet to admit this.

I watched the first 15 episodes last night, this show is wonderful. The end of the 5th episode when Ted 'let his wife go' had me trickling tears and won me over for the show. Plenty of emotional moments to enjoy, it's lucky I'm watching this show by myself. Roy Kent's character was a slow burn for sure, he might just be my favourite now. Actually, Keeley is fantastic too, her personality and voice has won my heart. The first episode I wasn't quite sure how to take her but she very quickly won me over. To be fair, I really like all of the characters, they have all grown on me....except for Rupert, he's still a twat. The show is far greater than I anticipated, that is for sure.

Rebecca's first instinct was to get revenge on Rupert by breaking his favourite toy. But the worst thing she could do isn't to destroy the club, but to replace him. Nick Mohammed (Nathan) is married to a Becka. Lotta Beckas around. Oh and he's just the nicest guy on Taskmaster.

So rare for a show to portray a healthy platonic relationship between a man and a woman. A lesser show would have written Ted and Rebecca into another tropey will-they-won’t-they romance

It was probably a recall clause, "if you don't play him enough, we can recall him."

I don’t think Rebecca’s trying to destroy Ted, I just think she didn’t believe in him, and she was relying on her first impression of him as a dumb American to destroy the team. But time spent with Ted is time spent learning you can’t go off your first impression. Rebecca’s problem is that she’s persisting in her chosen plan of action despite getting to know Ted. That action is incongruous with her knowledge, and that is always a recipe for everything falling down around your ears.
