Tim Urban knows that procrastination doesn't make sense, but he's never been able to shake his habit of waiting until the last minute to get things done. In this hilarious and insightful talk, Urban takes us on a journey through KZbin binges, Wikipedia rabbit holes and bouts of staring out the window -- and encourages us to think harder about what we're really procrastinating on, before we run out of time.

But you´ve gotta see the chance in that. If this feeling grows and grows it´ll maybe one day (hehe) give you enough energy to change things. Try to imagine yourself 5, 10, 15 years ahead if you dont make a change at all. Let that vision haunt you. If you manage to feel desire instead of resentment, you can do it.

To anyone relating to this: please look into whether or not you have ADHD. It's not always like the stereotype, and, if you *do* have it... It may just stop a lifetime of shame, guilt, frustration, thinking you're stupid or lazy, ect. Just consider it, before you realize that all this time, it simply wasn't your fault. Stay safe c:

@@oppenheimer11 Well, I just got diagnosed this year so I’m still learning. Medication can help but having strategies to help deal with it helps the other part. Talk to a doctor about it and they will help you to find someone to test you. The channel I go to for strategies is HowToADHD. They have helped me quite a bit. Also a doctor can prescribe medication for ADHD. I take a non-stimulant medication. Your doctor can help you figure out if stimulants or non-stimulants help you more. They typically try a non-stimulant first because those are less heavy on the heart. Stimulants regulate heart rate while non-stimulants tend to work on the mind. However, this can vary from person to person. Talking to a doctor is a good first step and checking out that ADHD channel can help too.

@@oppenheimer11 There's no way to really get rid of it, since it's a type of neurodiversity (basically, it's just how your brain functions). However, you could look into behavioral therapy (with a psychologist who specializes in ADHD) and/or go to a psychiatrist and ask about a possible diagnosis and farmacological treatment; both of those at the same time seem to be of good help to many people :>

Time and tide will not wait for any person. That means we must pay attention to how new technologies, and specifically AI, will make it easier for companies to become more efficient. Simply, this companies may not need a lot of workers, your bank may not need many staff. Your insurer may not need many workers. And the list keeps growing.

It has nothing to do with AI. Economic distress in America is enormous. Many banks have gone under. Inflation is biting harder. Ukrain miscalculation is obvious. Facebook has been using AI in most of its features and products for more than 15 years now, so Ai has nothing to do with it. They embarked on unprofitable projects. And over hired. Apple has never laid off employees despite the economic downturn. They did well in hiring and never had failed projects. Metaverse failed. Gaming projects failed. Fintech, Lira failed. In the last 20 months, Sanbberg left, nobody is there to "tame the lion" Most Tech companies went woke: hired talents in order to prevent competitors from having access, they kept them idle, just to hijack a pool of talent. Over hired without proper assessment and protection. The existing projects couldn't turn in expected revenue, even before inflation war in USA set it. Let's put it in perspective without blaming AI. 95% of big tech have been using AI in the last 15 years. Building a passive income is a real hedge against inflation. Such is a thing that won't fail when the govt and the big tech fails.

@Anifco67 Sorry, i'll have to disagree with it. When you are a procrastinator, you are kind of perfectionist. Your mind wants certain, specific set up before it feels comfortable to do it. Also, one little discomfort in your task, can push you away from it, and it might take you months or years to come back to it. It's real, it happens.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:12 📚 The typical workflow of writing papers doesn't work for him; procrastination kicks in. 00:41 📈 Thought his 90-page senior thesis would be different, but procrastination still got the best of him. 01:43 ⏱️ Pulled two all-nighters to complete his 90-page thesis just in time, but it was not well-received. 02:49 🖋️ Tim Urban is a writer-blogger who decided to investigate procrastination. 03:18 🧠 Brain scans suggest procrastinators and non-procrastinators have different brain structures. 03:50 🐒 Introduces the concept of the "Instant Gratification Monkey" in the procrastinator's brain. 05:24 🐾 Instant Gratification Monkey doesn't understand the complexities of modern civilization. 06:25 🌑 Describes the "Dark Playground," a zone where procrastinators spend time when they shouldn't. 07:26 😱 Introduces the "Panic Monster," the only entity the Monkey is afraid of. 08:32 🌏 Even the opportunity to give a TED Talk didn't initially overpower procrastination. 09:32 🚨 The Panic Monster wakes up as the deadline approaches, finally enabling focused work. 10:02 📧 Tim Urban was flooded with emails from people across various professions relating to his description of procrastination, indicating it's a widespread issue. 10:31 😔 The light tone of Tim's blog post contrasted with the heavy emotional burden that procrastination had placed on people's lives. 11:04 ⏰ There are two types of procrastination: one with deadlines, where the "Panic Monster" kicks in, and one without deadlines, which is more detrimental in the long run. 11:32 🏃‍♀️ Procrastination affects not just work, but other areas of life like health and relationships, where there are no immediate deadlines to invoke the Panic Monster. 12:00 😢 Long-term procrastination can lead to feelings of unhappiness and regret, making people feel like spectators in their own lives. 12:30 🚀 The frustration for many isn't about not achieving dreams, but not even starting to chase them. 13:03 🗓️ Tim introduces the "Life Calendar," emphasizing the limited time we have, and argues that everyone is procrastinating on something in life. 13:37 ⏳ The urgency to address procrastination should start soon, given the limited "boxes" in the Life Calendar. I really love this Ted Talk. I come back now and again while I'm procrastinating to become inspired to start whatever I'm supposed to be working on, and it really helps! Thank you very much :D
