Nice diagnosis and repair. Regarding the plastic zip ties and leaving a sharp point on them...I learned years back that a regular pair of side cutters will do the job clean by cutting them long wise vs. the thin side. The cutters will deform the plastic as it cuts top to bottom and once cut, it leaves a sort of rounded tip vs. a sharp tip. It works most of the time however, if you do not have the room to get to them to cut the wide side of them, it won't work obviously. Those nipx flush cuts are sweet and they'll work from any angle of cut...One other option is to use a butane lighter and deform the sharp end but I doubt that would impress though.

I keep the RESCUE EASY13 UNIVERSAL ECM motors on the truck, they are actually 115/230 capable. They come 230v out of the box and you install a provided jumper plug to go from 230v to 115v. I can use one motor for an air handler and a furnace Plug and play self rotation as well. But my version of converting a Tempstar to a Trane came when the home owner had a failed X13 OUT OF WARRANTY and could not afford the OEM motor and I did not have an ECM UNIVERSAL! I stripped out the controls and just simply added a truck stock 230v PSC motor w/cap a 90-340 relay and replaced the heater control with a 2 pole contactor using the relay to power the motor and prove common to the heater contactor like the old Trane air handlers. worked like a charm and saved her $150 and got it fixed onsite without waiting to come back with the OEM. THOSE HONEYWELL 5000 AND 6000 tstats where the lifesavers!

Pin 2 and 4 not always provide you with required cfm's( to man specs). Love Evergreens. That zhangzhong ( or whatever it called) motor was stock motor for most ICP's( including 16 seer Carrier). Highly agree on not messing with cabinet insulation, and, as I mentioned before- new icp install - light coat of grease on pirimeter before door's to be installed. Me big fan of ICP. But we all different. And that's great.

Can y’all recommend a thermostat that I can set the differential from when it calls for just heat pump before kicking in heat strips? My Honeywell doesn’t have the setting even deep in the installer’s settings menus. Anything more than 1.5-2 degrees between room temp and set point kicks strips on. Huge waste in Central Texas. I do like that it kicks in when there is a large differential and speeds the fan up, but not when it isn’t bitter cold. Doesn’t need to be a smart stat. Thanks!
@NoeArauz2 жыл бұрын
I have a few questions, because your heat strips should NOT come on unless (if setup correctly) AUX heat is selected or the Heat Pump goes into defrost (possible but unlikely). Need to verify the thermostat is setup as HP or a setting on the back is setup as Electric and need to make sure thermostat wires are landed correctly. Second is to verify you Heat Pump has refrigerant (call tech). From your description I would not be surprised if W2 has the W wire on it instead of AUX/EMG. What model thermostat do you have and how are the wires landed to the thermostat base? (Color wires to letter. Ex. Red to R, Yellow to Y, Green to G, etc.) A few more questions. Two stage Heat Pump? Two stage air handler? Two stage thermostat?
@clintgray16232 жыл бұрын
Some thermostats have a outdoor sensor to lock out the electric strips at a preset temperature
@brianleeper57372 жыл бұрын
I just put a switch on the aux heat wire which I leave off unless the heat pump can't keep up (hasn't happened yet). Other option is to install an outdoor thermostat which prevents the aux heat from coming on unless the outdoor temperature is below say 20F.

I have one of those Focus Pro 5000 in my house. Have had it for years. I used to use it on a heat pump system, but when I switched over to a high efficiency gas furnace, all I had to do was reprogram it. Very reliable and versatile. But I've bought quite a few of those T series, had a couple go bad so far. I do like the universal mount, so can be swapped out with a different model. But looks like the Focus Pro large number display are all being discontinued, so what would you recommend instead of the T-4 or T6 Pro? Both bigger supply houses near me that's about all they have, except those junky White Rogers made in China crap. I definitely don't like those.
@dwight.bennett2 жыл бұрын
Each has it's place. Really depends on the functionality needed. The basic T6 is very similar to the T4, of which there are several models of each. The higher end T6 models are touchscreen rather than the grey rubber buttons. 6220 or 6320 would be my preference, but the 4210 and 4220 are appropriate for budget customers with simple equipment.

Other than the wires maybe falling into the blades of the fan why the wire tie? Or was that the main reason. Those Green ECM motors seam to be a great motor to install. You mentioned that 7kw was too small. A 7kw would do about 1500sq ft. That area would need a 10kw just looking at video. Whats your idea of the kw htr? Also I have a suggestion on the insulation remedy that I always used, but thats for another day. They must make a killing on tape and flex in your area? Lolol. Thank you for the video.

That Evergreen motor actually sets itself with the amperage it detects.
@TedCookHVAC2 жыл бұрын
The static pressure is what causes the higher amp draw and sets the direction. When I say "resistance" I mean physical, not electronic. Therefore the direction of the blades "resist" the motor meaning it is harder to turn in the correct direction.

Hey thanks for the video. With regards to putting 5amp fuse in place of the 3amp. I don't think it is good idea because the transformer looks like not much bigger than a 75va(3amp). A fuse should protect both the equipment and the transformer. Also the wiring detail in the unit would show what is the max fuse it can take. Also on one of your other videos about a clogged condensate trap, it did not have a breather vent after the trap. Without it, it may not drain well or not drain at all. I usually just drill a 1/4 -3/8 hole on top after the trap on top. Only required if the condensate tray is behind the blower.

Ted, where I work we use a lot of zip ties on jobs where we power wash, and the boss insists that we clip the tails off, particularly since we cut the end of the tail to a point so we can penetrate plastic sheeting to protect areas not being washed. I see jobs where the tails didn't get clipped. I'm careful where I put my hands on stuff where the zip ties are.

I can’t stand most of what Honeywell makes as far as Tstats go. Back in November I replaced a customer’s old junky non working Robertshaw Tstat with a new Honeywell T1, which was defective right out of the box. When selecting modes it was either “heat” or “off,” no cool mode. And when selected in the heat mode, it turned on both the a/c and furnace simultaneously. The only other Tstat I had with me was a T4, so I had to install that one instead for the cheaper price of the T1.
