My dad used to drive the J train in Brooklyn. He told me they came across Mike Tyson as a kid sleeping on the train. He looked homeless and they thought he was a grown man so 2 or 3 of them approached him to wake him up just in case he got aggressive. To my dad's surprise you could see his age in his face but he was super developed physically. Sad he was going through soo much at such a young age. RIP pops 🙏

@@tylenolrx7699 Teddy’s not a hater. Teddy has his own opinion on what it means to be a truly great fighter. When Teddy says (not sure if he says it in this clip) that every time Tyson got tested and had to overcome something in the Ring. The fact is that whenever that scenario did happen in the Ring. Tyson folded. That’s the history.

@@ericwilliams235 Teddy was Tysons trainer and also had split guardianship with Cuss. He not only trained Tyson, but also watched over him. Overall, when Tyson was 15 he touched the butt of Teddy's 11 year old Niece, which sent Teddy into a Rage. Teddy found Tyson and threaten to kill him, held a gun to his head, and when Cuss found out about this, he got rid of Teddy, and that's where all the bad blood came from. They later spoke a few years back, Tyson and Teddy and even though they both said they forgive, you can tell there's still some bad blood there.

@@ericwilliams235 I wouldn't say he overreacted lmao, Tyson totally fucked up which I'm sure he knows now but he was a very troubled kid. Meanwhile Atlas was also a very complicated guy. Teddy was missing something. Not only did Cus say that Tyson will be a heavyweight champion one day, he said he is going to be the youngest heavyweight champion of all time aswell. Now what does that tell you? Obviously Cus was a genius for that foresight, but secondly the tremedous talent of Tyson. Genetically the most gifted boxer of all time. Never have you seen this combination of speed and power. You can call yourself lucky if you have one of them, not both. If he stayed with Kevin Rooney, he would have been undefeated his whole career. He was always his own greatest enemy, being this young and rich and later with Don King in charge, who only cared for his own profit and not the fighter, it was a tragedy seeing all his best years go to waste. He had unlimited potential.

It's a bit sad that Teddy never really got the credit for the training that he gave Tyson. Tyson is on film stating that Teddy taught him how to fight. Cus developed his mind and character. Teddy also worked on Tyson's character. Tyson used to cry before fights because he was scared if he lost, nobody would like him anymore (it's on film). Teddy lost out on millions. But what he did was wrong, no matter how you want to look at it. Nobody has taken Tyson's place have they? He was phenomenal and we're still talking about him.. i can't imagine a world where he isn't here anymore. Or Teddy

When people talk about Cus & Kevin Rooney what if Tyson stayed with them they always leave out Teddy Atlas who was the guy actually training Mike day to day and taking him to amateur & Olympic events, sure Cus was the special sauce of the operation but Teddy was the guy in the factory putting it together. When people then talk about Kevin Rooney, Mike didn’t respect Kevin Rooney as a coach he was just “There to make sure I don’t forget anything and can’t teach me nothing” in Mikes own words and Kevin wasn’t a great psychologist which Mike needed, Kevin was just not a yes man but couldn’t reel Mike into the bigger picture. I say that to say I think if Teddy stayed Mike would’ve been a lot different, it’s the guy who trained him from a kid and Teddy is obviously a great in the psychology. Now of course staying in Catskills while Teddy left to other gyms hurt Rooneys ability to get his hands on more boxing talent to show off his coaching skills, so I’m not calling him a bad coach but he would just never gel with Mike really.

Have you ever stopped to think that you may have never heard of Tyson if it wasn't for Cus Damato's and Teddy Atlas's training?

You obviously don't pay attention. It's because Cus D'Amato existed and was alive at that time that anybody knows who Mike Tyson is. If there was no Cus then there would be no Teddy and definitely no Mike Tyson. You have it backwards.

Part of the story changed… I had a tape this girl I knew father gave to me, they started filming mike when he was still in juvenile custody, the beginning of the tape they come to his cell and Mike ask if he can be a boxer with Gus, and Gus said you don’t wanna be a boxer you keep getting in trouble, but he knew Tyson was a prodigy reason they were filming him… I left that tape on my car dashboard on a hot day and it melted I was so pissed, I had a golden tape it showed a 12yr old Tyson first training with so much more footage, it still piss me off wish I had instantly made copy’s it was over 30yrs ago I had that vhs tape

Dont think so tyson basically had a 5 year career and lost against every fighter he couldnt intimadate holyfield showed how you beat him .. after douglas koed him he was done ... after that he hardly trained and relied on his power if he couldnt get you out of there he lacked the stamina he had under rooney ... if he had stayed with rooney he could have went down as one of the greatest because between 85 and 90 he was untouchanle had it all but unfortunately cus died rooney was gone and don king came in ... doesnt matter how good you are as an athlete you need to train .. after the douglas fight his myth was burst ... just makes the all time heavyweight top ten but ali liston foreman lewis prime holmes they all beat him holyfield beats him every time

Teddy, you're youre embellishing the story. Tyson didnt want to leave the ring because didnt want to disappoint. He just met you. He wasnt challenging you. You always try to come off like the tough guy when it comes to mike. Quit being bitter. He apologized to you. Move on. You actually dodged a bullet. You didnt become part of the tyson circus. He probably would have canned you like he did your friend.
