The Oyster Perpetual is one of those slow-release-appreciation watches. It looks plain, boring and not innovative at first sight. But then you take a longer look and pick one up to get a feel of it. You then start to take in the simple but elegant design that just grows on you overtime. Add in the history behind the oyster case and you've got yourself a beautiful watch that has a timeless design.

I have the 36 OP in blue and its my only watch other than a digital Casio i use occasionally. I am a big fan of the 36mm explorer and really love the look of that watch, unfortunately the bracelet lets it down a bit, hence why i got the OP. The blue dial on the OP is amazing, it changes colour in different lighting and is versatile, the watch feels really sturdy and would easily outlive me.

I wouldn't buy a Rolex to buy a Rolex but rather get the watch you want. If you want a Sub or GMT, just save up for the Sub or GMT. Settling on a DJ or Air King isn't going to satisfy someone, unless you are a fan of those watches like yourself Teddy. Next watch will probably be a Polar Explorer II. I have fallen in love with that thing and I want a GMT watch. I already have a Sub and Speedy, so I don't want another black on black watch. Pepsi GMT is another watch I crave but the cost is really high and I honestly don't feel like I'm settling by going for the Explorer II.

I would also recommend the Oysterdate 6694. With its manual wind 1225 movement it's thin on the wrist. Mine was originally bought by a Korea War/Vietnam War vet while stationed in Germany in 1969/70, bought by my grandfather (his friend) upon his death, later inherited by my father, and recently given to me (an Iraq War vet) by my father while he is still thankfully alive. It has been everywhere from the rifle range to the golf course to a tractor on the north 40. It's been serviced and had crystals cracked numerous times by all the previous owners who were 'one watch' guys. Just came back to me last month after its latest service looking new again. Still has the original dark brown almost black dial with gold markers. If this watch could tell stories, it would cover four lives. Next owner will be my daughter. Will look a bit big on her wrist, but she appreciates its history.

Rolex, the one brand I have no ambition of owning. They have become so associated with "status" and are now almost common on the secondary market, albeit at a huge mark up, they just are not fun. They don't hold the swagger the Rolexes of late 70s-90s and through mid '10s held.

Correction: The Rolex 5701 is an Air King, two tone, jubilee bracelet, fluted bevel, has a date, I own one. The 5701 was made for the Canadian market, very affordable on the used market.

Nice video but I could never buy a Rolex, that is just too much $$ for a watch. The quality and design are nice but the Grand Seiko exceeds it from a technology standpoint and I don't see the materials as being any better than most of the upper end luxuary brands, to me a used Omega makes more sense. The only top end watches that interest me are the Reverso and the Snowflake; just my 2 cents. I have to say, from what I heard, Rolex customer service is second to none.
