It’s my 40th. My dad wants to buy me a Rolex. Just one - one I will have for life. A Datejust, but I want it in the combination I want, not what I’m ‘offered’. Presumably the flippers/grey market dealers are the reason for pointless AD wait times and being ‘offered’ a watch. Great. Thanks.

For a lot of models the wait isnt actually very long these days, the reason the grey market dealers have been pushing videos exactly like the one above so hard these last 12 months is because inventory is being released which drives down prices and they are basically scaring you from approuching an AD. Loads of GMTs and Datejusts have been sold recently so just get in contact with your local rolex store and tell them what you want and put your name down. Especially if its a datejust i suspect it will be less than 6 month wait.

I got so fed up waiting from my AD, i wanted a Bluesy and for three years i waited, all the AD said buy this watch buy that watch and you might be able to get one. I ended up buying on the grey market and the watch was a full set and still under Rolex five year warranty. I regret waiting now for so long and i am so happy with my Bluesy now.

Just got my first watch from my AD GMT Lefty, met my salesman march 2022 told him I want a GMT Lefty he said he placed me on there list. Stopped there every 2 months or so to chit chat about watches, got the call the other week and picked up my Beautiful GMT Lefty on a oyster bracelet with zero history and I couldn’t be happier. Most of the people they deal with don't actually have any true passion for watches, they just know they need a certain ref number RM, or Rolex, or Patek.... to have the status, popularity, in their pursuit to a billion. Really good advice. My AD lost dealership so i lost a 40 year relationship when in hindsight i could have had pretty much any watch. Went to new AD, asked for a steel datejust 41, grey dial, smooth bezel. Seven weeks later its arrived. I love the watch, it fits my collection perfectly and have now started a new relationship with a really nice AD, after i have to say a bit of searching through some appalling attitudes at some AD's.

Picked up the watch today and AD put me down for a sub and white gold steel dial oyster flex and told me to expect them in a very reasonable time frame ( both less than 12 months). Also bought the wife a beautiful set of diamond earrings which she desperately wanted. He knew my last AD and knew my spend with both Rolex and Porsche but without your advice on the datejust rhodium I don't believe I would be here today. Can't thank you enough for your advice including advising me by telephone to avoid the gold Sky dweller Oyster flex i was offered ( although to big for my wrist). Great channel mate I've put a couple of friends onto you. I hope and believe I'm making another great relationship with a very good and genuine AD. This time I won't take it for granted and will take everything within reason offered. My last AD used to regularly bring out trays of watches but I expected I could always buy what I wanted so passed many times on steel Daytona's and even passed on a Platinum Daytona. Rolex prices are slowly returning to pre pandemic costs. Patience is a virtue at the moment, certain models will always be highly sought after from your AD. Preowned prices are falling slowly.

My local independent Rolex AD retired and the shop closed a few years ago and so my relationship went too. I want a GMT (don’t we all) so decided to play the game. Nearest AD to me was a Goldsmiths over a couple of years bought a couple of other makes which I wanted anyway and also bought a couple of bits of jewellery too. Went on the list in Nov 20 for the GMT and hoped to get the call at some point. Visited the store end of 2022 to check in and found that my history was no longer sufficient for a GMT and the history had to include another Rolex. Goal posts had been moved! The wife had always fancied a Yacht-Master 37mm so put my name down for that. 7 months later I’m still waiting for this and once this wait is over (I’m not holding my breath!) I will then have to wait further for the GMT. It’s the Pepsi I’m after and I guarantee that it will be discontinued before I get the call. Goldsmiths will still have all the money I have spent though so they won’t be too concerned. Funny old game this!

I bought a Submariner in 2007. Walked into the Rolex dealer, they had it, I bought it, walked right out again. I’m still wearing it. If anything ever happens to it, I’ll try to replace it. But if Rolex couldn’t or wouldn’t sell it to me on the spot, I’d walk out and go get something else. These stories about wait times that I’m hearing about are garbage. No brand is worth what Rolex is apparently putting their customers through these days.

I recently got a DJ 36 as my first Rolex. It’s blue dial with stick hours, fluted bezel & jubilee. I don’t particularly have a very small wrist but I prefer that size over the 41. What an absolutely gorgeous watch. The only issue was, to buy that I had to get a Panerai. But in all honesty I love that panerai as well.

That is crazy, I bought my sub date in 2004 in the Bahamas for about 5k US. The wife and I just walked in off the street wearing our swim suits and started browsing over the Rolex watches, the sales person that was assisting us couldn't slap watches on my wrist fast enough, I ended up picking the Sub Mariner Date. The whole process took about an hour and I walked out of the store wearing my new watch. I can't believe you guys go through all of this just for a watch, it is just a bubble and it is going to pop, my advice just wait about another year and you will be able to buy any watch that want when you want it.

If we have spend with our AD should we try and get the date just 41 mint green fluted bezel with the jubilee bracelet or the date just 41 mint green motif w the fluted bezel and the jubilee bracelet. Which of the 2 would you go for? Perhaps it's personal preference. I'm not sure how sought after the motif dials are?

I visited my local Rolex AD to get my first Rolex. I asked for Oyster perpetual 41mm Celebration or Green but they said it’s highly unlikely I will get it. I love the celebration dial but do not want to pay the premium. This video is informative and I can certainly tell them add one of the datejust you recommended into preferences.

I put my name on the list for a Root beer GMT , Daytona , and no date sub. 1 month later I was offered a Root beer GMT which I bought and love. I think because Root beer is two tone is why I was offered. Any stainless steel sports model forget it...

I would say 6in to 7in is a nice size for the 36mm range. But it is personal preference

I was in LHR airport duty free shop of Rolex and inquired about Tudor and showed interest and the sales representative showed me bunch of Rolex that I can buy. I am no watch expert and now look the price and feel they were more hard to buy and now even more expensive. The same happened with a watch dealer when asked about Tudor and saw Patek Aquanuat in 2016 when it was below £17k new and futher 10% off.
