@@andreac.9048 why not both? "hard" & "easy" words can both be used to describe. then there will be more opportunities for that language to resonate or hold value with individuals. more language = further understanding. stopping to google words during a video really throws me off and a simple short synonym can make a huge difference in my understanding. this is a video on how to get what u want which includes appealing to others using their personal language so you have to be willing to adapt to be understood. ableism is real and accommodation helps.

@@corewaym4609 Are you suggesting they change the actual terms of the rhetorical elements because you, yourself, cannot understand them? Try the hard things. Seriously. It will help you grow. being Greek I have been taught about them in school. In Greece we call them : Επικληση στη λογικη (appealing to logic) Επικληση στο συναισθημα(appealing to the emotions) and Επικληση στο ηθος(appealing to ithos ; your own character) and there is one 4th way of persuasion, unmentioned in this video which is called επικληση στην αυθεντια( appealing to authority) which usually comes down to sentences such as like : "As Einstein once said", or "As a great teacher once claimed" and so on... its presenting an important person's opinion to make your argument more appealing.

I don't know what's up with all the people in the comments of these educative videos. School is NOT bad. And it does NOT suck. School is good and needed. The more a country can offer to its civilians the better. Just look at LDC(low developed countries). They cannot provide free or cheap school, therefore making it impossible , for most of the children there, to attend school. They are LDCs. You live in an industrialized country. Use what you have and not just jerk around!

The Case of Corax and Tisias Corax, a teacher of Rhetoric in Syracuse, Sicily around 476 BC sued his pupil, Tisias, for not paying his tuition. In court, Tisias argued that he should not have to pay, regardless of outcome, because: · Either he will prove his case, and therefore not have to pay as the result of winning the suit; or he will lose the suit and that will be proof that Corax did not teach him well enough to deserve being paid his tuition. Corax argued that he should be paid, regardless of outcome, because: · If he wins the suit, then the court will require him to be paid, and if he loses the suit, that will be proof that he taught Tisias well enough to beat him and therefore he deserves to be paid his fee. Who is right?

There can be an evaluation of corax's teaching skills, passing which he will have the right to obtain payment from Tisias and he can continue teaching Tisias on payment should Tisias wish to continue with the course or whatever it is. If he does not pass the evaluation, well, he can forget about his fee. In that case Tisias gets to keep the money and Corax either has to undergo training again, or he has to give up teaching. As to who is right, the evaluators will be the judge of that.

Don't despair, while it seems like checkmate, it's not. Here's what needs to be done, find a time when they're out and you're home, now clean that place like you've never cleaned before in your life, clean like your life hangs in the balance, clean everything, clean up the yard, clean up the lawn gnomes if you must. If done properly, this will be very noticeable, now write a little note, telling them you cleaned up and are taking a nap, with a little p.s at the bottom, asking for what you'd like. Now go nap, or feign sleep when they return, see how that goes.

It was very basic but overall okay. I really wish though that she had mentioned that pathos is not just appeal to emotions but to an audience's beliefs and values. That's the hardest thing for me to get into my students' heads. No more how many times I tell them and show examples of pathos appealing to a values, they come back with an analysis that says there's no pathos because they felt no emotions while reading something. Huge groan.

Rhetorical devices are loosely organized into the following FOUR categories: Logos. Devices in this category seek to convince and persuade via logic and reason, and will usually make use of statistics, cited facts, and statements by authorities to make their point and persuade the listener. Pathos. These rhetorical devices base their appeal in emotion. This could mean invoking sympathy or pity in the listener, or making the audience angry in the service of inspiring action or changing their mind about something. Ethos. Ethical appeals try to convince the audience that the speaker is a credible source, that their words have weight and must be taken seriously because they are serious and have the experience and judgment necessary to decide what’s right. Kairos. This is one of the most difficult concepts in rhetoric; devices in this category are dependent on the idea that the time has come for a particular idea or action. The very timeliness of the idea is part of the argument.

What about aptum, and patos? Aptum is the context, reminding you to consider your surroundings or situation, to help consider what will and will not fit your current situation. Pathos is the receiver's emotion, and it is important to strengthen pathos by using motivational means if you want to urge the receiver to take some kind of action.

SORRY!!! Pathos was actually in the video! I am so sorry, I haven't had enough sleep lately. What I MEANT was logos! Logos helps to determine whether or not the speaker's arguments are actually believable or valid. Using hard facts, reason (and logic, hence the name) to try and convince the receiver of something is very very important.

They also mentioned logos. I've yet to hear about Aptum but from the way you explained it I don't think it fits in here because they're talking about the forms of persuasion and aptum seems more like a "remember your audience" kind of thing. I can't find the word/phrase I'm looking for but I hope that made sense.

@demiavery3300
@demiavery3300 8 жыл бұрын
That may be true but rhetoric isn't simply persuasive speaking; rhetoric is the art of effective OR persuasive speaking/writing. So while aptum may be an important part of rhetoric it doesn't necessarily mean it's a form of persuasion which is what the video is focusing on, the persuasive side of rhetoric. I'm not in any way licensed to teach anything about rhetoric but this is just my opinion based on the limited knowledge I have on the topic.

"I have as muscle as any Men" - This statement is the best example to prove how "some irrational people can convince people of factually incorrect arguments". When it comes to common analogies considering larger samples are essential for true results. It is no new fact that Men are "blessed" with more testosterones and testosterones are directly linked with muscle growth which in turn affects how strong you are.

Pathos is the least reliable form of convincing, YET it is the most effective. I hate this about humans. Why are people so stupid? We have yet to learn to do our own research, or at LEAST look at research done by others. Maybe if this is going to be taught better in our schools that we will evolve into a logos species. The question is that,"are we real." Are we just a complex computer simulation with rules like the first law of thermodynamics? Are we just a tool to see how people would react to things and how it would go. Are we just computer equations and coding that thinks we are real even if we are not. Are all senses just not real and just an input of the rest of the coding to affect your coding. Like saying that garbage stinks,with a grimace face. The smell and sight affected your coding.

interestingyoutubechannel That's called dialogue. If both people are free to participate, then they can participate as much or as little as they see fit. All parties should be able to argue for their own benefit because in order to get what you want, you need to give others what they want. Rhetoric only goes so far. If you can't produce results, people will generally stop listening to you.

Great Moravia (Latin: Moravia Magna, Greek: Μεγάλη Μοραβία - megale Moravia, Czech: Velká Morava, Slovak: Veľká Morava), the Great Moravian Empire,[1] (historiographical terms - original formal name is unknown) or simply Moravia,[2][3][4] was the first major state that was predominantly Slavonic to emerge in the area of Central Europe.[5] Its core territories were located on the Morava river which gave its name to the kingdom. Morava in Czech and in Slovak refers to both the river and the historical Margraviate of Moravia, which is now the eastern part of the Czech Republic. The river flows south through the whole of Moravia, forming the present-day border between the Czech Republic and Slovakia before finally becoming the border between Slovakia and Austria (where it is called the March in German). The core of Great Moravia was established, according to legend, in the early 830s, when Prince Mojmír I ([moimi:r]) crossed the Morava and conquered the principality of Nitra (present-day western Slovakia). The former principality of Nitra was used as the údelné kniežatsvo, or the territory given to, and ruled by, the successor to the throne, traditionally the nephew of the ruling kъnendzь or prince. The extent and location of Great Moravia are a subject of debate.[6] Rival theories place the heart of it either south of the river Danube (the river Morava in Serbia) or on the Great Hungarian Plain.[7] The exact date when the Moravian state was founded is also disputed, but it probably occurred in the early 830s under Prince Mojmír I, (r. 820s/830s-846), who is the first known Moravian ruler. Mojmír and his successor, Rastislav ( "Rostislav" in Czech), who ruled from 846 to 870, initially acknowledged the suzerainty of the Carolingian monarchs, but their fight for independence caused a series of armed conflicts with East Francia beginning in the 840s. Moravia reached its largest territorial extent under Svätopluk I, (Svatopluk in Czech), who ruled from 870 to 894, and who was occasionally styled as king in contemporaneous sources. Although the borders of his empire cannot be exactly determined, he controlled the core territories of Moravia as well as other neighbouring regions, including Bohemia, most of Slovakia and parts of Slovenia, Hungary, Poland and Ukraine, for some periods of his reign. Separatism and internal conflicts emerging after Svätopluk's death contributed to the fall of Moravia, which was overrun by the Hungarians. The exact date of Moravia's collapse is unknown, but it occurred between 902 and 907. Moravia experienced significant cultural development under Prince Rastislav, with the arrival in 863 of the mission of Saints Cyril and Methodius. Rastislav had asked the Byzantine emperor to send a "teacher" (učitelja) to introduce literacy and a legal system (pravьda) to Great Moravia. The brothers Cyril and Methodius introduced a system of writing (the Glagolitic alphabet) and Slavonic liturgy, the latter eventually formally approved by Pope Adrian II.[8] The Glagolitic script was invented by Cyril himself and the language he used for his translations of holy scripts and his original literary creation was based on the Slavic dialect he and his brother Methodius knew from their native Thessaloniki. The language, termed Old Church Slavonic, was the direct ancestral language for Macedonian and Bulgarian, and therefore also referred to as Old Bulgarian. Later, the disciples of Cyril and Methodius were expelled from Great Moravia by King Svätopluk I. Arriving in the First Bulgarian Empire, the disciples continued the Cyrilo-Methodian mission continued with the creation of a successor to Glagolitic, called Cyrillic. The Cyrillic script and translations of the liturgy were disseminated to other Slavic countries, particularly in the Balkans and Kievan Rus', charting a new path in their cultural development.

overall better mental strength is highly argueable, even in such recent events as a female CEO disallowing negotiations for raises because the female employers weren't capable to do so women show better memory by raw data, perception of shades of red, precision and stronger maternal emotions while men show better spacial recognition, logical reasoning, stronger creative and higher physical strength now say, the common stereotype is: men are more violent than women, due to higher testosterone levels which is usually also a point taken when discussing racial issues men show tendency for physical violence to a much higher degree than women do, however radicalized emotions and lack of stresshandling in women often result in comparibly much more frequent domestic violence which is in most even 1st world countries are only documented when it's physical, but not emotional that lead to a lot of people datamining false/inaccurate information recognition of differences is needed, but the importance is on equal rights, recognition of individuality and variance
