It's so beautiful to see just how giving, supportive and generous Kofi was. Check out how he goes out of his way to make Jon sound good on this, gives him the space to shine, knows when to reign it in and "be there" for him, making it feel good....No ego, no dumb competition vibe...and the whole time he's looking out for him warning him when something is coming up, and all the while cueing the band to move on through the tune, even saving a lil' something for himself here and there!! Making room for Jon to get a vibe on organ....all of it done with the spirit of sharing and brotherhood in music. On this clip Kofi makes EVERYONE on that stage shine and rise a notch. Now THAT is how a real cat is supposed to act!! Musicians can't help to play "who they are", and Kofi was indeed giving and kind...and a sweet spirit, and even though we didn't know each other too well, we always had a beautiful vibe whenever we'd see each other. The last time I saw him was in Atlanta while I was visiting our boy Kebbi Williams....He came by our gig and sat in on flute and it was really really special. I'm literally here because I was trying to find that very video, which I have somewhere but right now I can't remember where!! Thank God because I stumbled onto this unaware of it's existence...RIP Kofi...You are still loved and missed, and your sweet spirit and music live on. Thank you

You said it perfectly. This clip is so special not just because of the jam (which is amazing), but also because of the interactions of the musicians. You can see what a generous musical spirit Kofi had. Brings a tear to my eye to see such beauty. RIP

@@DropD1123 I appreciate your comment!! It makes me glad to have written what I originally wrote; and not from a place of ego, but because it's nice whenever someone is able to express exactly what we feel/think, and I have no "pride of ownership" when it comes to that. It's not about me, but about verbalizing the many dynamics at play in this clip; I'm just happy I have enough experience as a musician, enough discernment and insight, and last but not least, that I enjoy writing enough to get something out of expressing my thoughts "on paper". Thank you again, and I feel your comment about the "tear" coming to your eye...Kofi sure was special. I'm including a link to that video I was referencing on my initial comment - the one where I'm in ATL playing (under my own name) and Kofi came by and sat in. Go to the 45:20 (45' 20") mark to hear how Kofi and I went into "outer space" improvising over random harmony. true improvisation. Kofi's ears are in evidence, as is his penchant for mood: you'll notice him matching the same spirit I introduced; we were speaking from the same place essentially. There's also some nice stuff going on during the very next tune - which was the last tune of the night - my arrangement of "Maiden Voyage"; Kofi and Kebbi sound beautiful on it. Hope you enjoy it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ioW5iIqJe8Shors

Man that was amazing!!! 😉 and everyday I'm wowed or moved spiritually by something I hear, watch, or read that has to do with this band. I know how blessed I am for a band to move me on so many levels and be as special to me as this group of players is. Never would have I believed that Twice, count em twice I say, something akin to lightning striking the same spot more than once would I get the joy I get from Trucks's playing on the same emotional level that I do with Garcia and the fellas. My ears are wet with excitement daily either from TTB or the Grateful Dead, Trucks with ABB or the great run Derek had with his own band or and Garcia with his smorgasbord of sound that he dealt out. Yes I consider myself very lucky and even more blessed to have two guitarists in their many forms move me the way Trucks and Garcia do. Music 🎶 can change the world note by note and the soul can travel on the same notes 🎶
