A few weeks ago I was on that mountain road with all of the rocks, I had just been on a hike and was leaving and I came around one of those corners and then I saw a blue with white stripes 2006 ford GT. There is a large contingent of people who drive their cars on those roads, and generally people are very responsible which is nice to see!

No way, you drove past my house! A couple tips if you're in the Stowe area again, if you went straight on the roundabout at 10:55 and took VT-109 for a few miles there is a great road on the right called Hogback Road with nice winding corners, little traffic and a pedestrian suspension bridge as part of the Long Trail which is a great place to take a break. Just repaved a couple years ago and much more fun than VT-15 where there's a 95% chance you'll get stuck behind a beater Subaru doing 10 under. Also if you turn left at the end of the road at 18:13 (Stagecoach RD) there is a fantastic coffee spot called The Roastery, owned by a couple of KZbinrs.

I just picked up my 2025 Type R a month ago - such an incredible car! I did the Type S ADS module and am working on a bit of sound deadening to reduce highway noise. Some Killmat and thin acoustic foam in the doors and trunk makes a world of difference for only ~10lb of extra weight.

You inspired me to buy mine. I knew when a lot of the auto journalists were buying the Type-R that it was the right decision. Almost 5000 miles now in 9 months and I do have a few complains. Center cup holders get in the way and are too small on the door. Exhaust is too quiet. Gas tank is too small. Suspension is too stiff (fixed with the Type-S module). Pretty minor things for what is overall an extremely well rounded and impressive car.

They acknowledge a break in period but don’t recommend changing the original oil till the 10k mark. I’m planning to maintain the car at the 5k mile interval so as to limit risk of long term engine issues. We plan to keep this car as long as possible.

Really cozy drive, you inspired me to go out for one myself this upcoming weekend if it's dry and somewhat sunny at least. :) Turbo S doesn't really excite me in any way. Ofc my eyes are glued to it if I ever see one (it's a 911 at the end of the day), but no particular emotions follow, but whenever I think more about it, I realize this is such a good luxurious daily as long as you do your groceries regularly. Ooo I'm earlier for once haha! I have to say I completely agree with you on that last bit about how stiffer (or lower for that matter) doesn't necessarily mean better handling, personally where I am I wouldn't want my cars any lower than they already are with the condition of some roads. My 90's coupe is running oem springs and shocks. I've just been using polybushes to improve the handling, the roll bars alone made a huge difference! I'd recommend to anyone to try swapping out some bushes, maybe a strut brace or two before immediately sticking on expensive coil-overs and lowering the car to the floor.

Tend to agree with you in many cases about oil change intervals being weirdly long these days. My 2024 Jetta Sport calls for oil changes every 10,000 miles. I've been following this routine for as long as my oil changes are free at the dealer - when it's on me to do it myself, I'll probably lower that interval. With that said, I inspected my oil prior to taking it in and getting it changed and it looked much more healthy than the oil on the previous three cars I've owned, at lower intervals. It was definitely ready to be changed, but my old Silverado's oil looked worse at 6,000 miles than my VW's does at 10,000. I think there has been some advancements in engines and lubricants. Still though, I am generally skeptical of these long intervals in general. It seems to be working for me, but that's just one case with one car.

I have a 2024 civic Sport Touring 6MT with just about 40 k miles now. I have the steering issue that the recall is for. As it is, I can’t go down the road without my steering locking up that causes me to make an aggressive input to get it to free. This is admittedly a big negative for me and makes me reconsider the entire purchase, despite how good everything else on the car is. The GTI’s or even Hundayis wouldn’t have these issues.

Question for the next vid, Tom; now that you have the Lexus winter daily, replacing the 'harder' miles this car got the past few years, do you regret getting this? You have the M5 and the 911 for your 'fun' miles, would you not get the TypeR in hindsight? Or maybe getting something MORE fun for its limited usage?

I still treat the Honda as a fun reliable daily. The Porsche and BMW are more for special trips

Those chicanes are the latest attempt to keep semi trucks out of the notch. Several get stuck every summer which closes the road for hours.

If you had 45k and had no other cars, would you still buy your Type R or any other car? Great videos btw!

Instinctively I want to say it needs more power but what I'm really wanting is a more exciting engine. I know (at least for the last while) that's not Honda's thing, it's chassis/handling, but I'm definitely an engine-first gal, much as I do love Honda.

the new type r's arent as sonorous as the old b and k series hondas, or even s2000 but they make up for it in dynamics and speed. personally with the pedal dance i have wheelspin up until 3rd so I'm good on power, but its still easy to tune these motors. I think they could and should work on the exhaust though, Integra type s fixes it

Have seen vids with like an ATAK and yeah, an exhaust helps a lot. Even Topher's with just the Type S exhaust does a lot, as you say.

Is the FL5 Type R worth the $8K-$15K delta compared to an Elantra N, GR Corolla, or even a FK8 Type R?
@TedwardDrives
@TedwardDrives 11 күн бұрын
I think yes because the interior is way more exciting than the Corolla. And the Elantra is great but it’s not as well rounded as a performance car. If you need AWD then you can’t do better than the Toyota though. It has great character

Interesting comment I think Tedward made in this video about lack of smoothness on 1st to 2nd shift in the FL5. I own a 2024 FL5 and his KZbin channel was a huge part of my research on the car. What’s better than POV driving videos for a car that I couldn’t test drive because Honda dealers literally have the cars roped off on their showroom floors and a request for a test drive is crazy talk apparently. My FL5 when shifting from 1st to 2nd isn’t a smooth shift and is notchy to get into 2nd, especially when the car is cold. Is this a normal thing? It’s really smooth for all another shifts but 1st to 2nd is not. Any insight on your comment on this Tedward or any other FL5 owners is appreciated. Still love the car and don’t care either way, but would be interested to hear if this is an FL5 thing or just me.

When I had this gen SI, it totally had the sticky steering thing. It was only at highway speeds it seemed like or when the steering wheel is mostly centered on a highway vs. driving around town and moving it a lot. Nice to know that was a recalled thing. It was pretty annoying. Not like get rid of the car annoying or anything but noticeable and annoying lol edit: PS: you make me miss the SI and the civic in general and there's an at MSRP type R at the dealer a few miles from me. Don't do this to me lol
