i bought my ST185 in 2016. I really wasn't a fan of celicas at the time and did not know much about them, but the car was only 3000$ CAD and had 115000km so i knew it was a good deal. now looking back i am super happy that i got it. almost impossible to find ST185 in North America for less than 15000$ unfortunately the previous owner did lots of mods that hurt the value, metal flake paint job which was done very poorly, body kit from the early 2000's that looks "rice" and was hiding some body damage to the right rear quarter. dash was cut up and had gauges installed and whatever he used to cover the dash is now bubbling and cracking off. homemade FMIC piping was welded terribly and had lots of boost leaks/very rough welds obstructing flow. lots of little issue but my plan now is to try and convert the car to a CS style 185

11:07 I noticed this in assetto corsa while playing with different cars. I just happened to try the rally cellica version on nurburgring. And o god how good it is. First thing I noticed is just very good brakes and second is steering and acceleration out of a corner. I havent driven yet anything like it but its a beast. It feels way to good like a rocket in corners. Even tho max speed is 200 I can get an average 13 second faster lap than with a subaru that has a higher top speed. Im not surprised why its a rally legend.

That engine was in top trim Caldina awd up until 2007. Caldina shares MC platform with the good old 2003 beige corolla, which means one could swap the rear subframe mounts to the corolla and make it an ultimate 3sgte sleeper

For anyone who wants to build one of these in the USA, find a gen 1 Rav4, lower it, and swap in the 3SGTE, the Mounts are the same, the MT version has the same transmission, the AWD system is the same, the Axles aren't but, they are interchangeable, even the harness is plug and play, everything from the GT4 is interchangeable with the Gen 1 rav.. Enjoy!

The GT-Four ST205 has always been underrated/undervalued compared to the likes of the Impreza/Evo of the time as they performed badly in the championship when they weren't cheating and when they were they got caught and banned, so the cars have always lacked the pedigree/status of the others in the market, which is a real shame as they're fantastic cars.

The old clutch pedals in general back then were a lot heavier than now and felt beefier for it. That's another thing I miss and they still weren't so much that you couldn't drive in traffic. Resale value aside, I would definitely take this over a Supra. This has a real history and Supras are ridiculously overvalued thanks to pop culture.

@@kotarojujo2737 I'm in the US, so I didn't follow that series and it would have been difficult to do so back then (it was hard enough to follow rally), but the race car bore little resemblance to the road car-they didn't even use the Supra's engine. As a road car, I'm old enough to remember when they came out and they consistently rated low in shootouts with their contemporaries, the 300ZX TT, RX7 turbo, 3000GT VR4, and C4 Corvette (the Mitsubishi was always last and that was before all the reliability issues were known).

@@kotarojujo2737 Yes we can. Its nothing special. Desperately need a Supra? Get mk3 or just pre 1986 celica. MK4 is not a bad car, but its not worth the money people ask for it, and its incredibly useless as a daily compared to Celica. It has patheric rear seat room and trunk capacity. Celica especially fwd ones have amazongly spacious trunks. Alltrac/GTFour still has much deeper and wider trunk than a supra despite awd drive line under the floor.

+1 I used to have a 91 rev1 with the base 5SFE and 5MT. Completely stock with the original 14 inch wheels. Loved mine as well. Mine was black with a sunroof. Nothing else comes close to how that car handled corners for me. I can only imagine how awesome it would've been with some real power.

owned an st195 for all of 20 minutes at my place of work. Guy brought it in and just didnt feel like spending the money on it for a new timing belt and all that and some of the special parts it needs and the time. so he sold it to me for a good price. i parked it in the back of the shop where NO one drives or go back for safe keeping. one of the tire delivery guys came through that area and wasnt paying attention when backing up and pinned the poor thing against the sign and totaled it out.

All JDM WRC makes have a character all to themselves. Certainly, try this car out if you can, but also the evo6, sti V4, mazda familia GT-R, and pulsar GTiR . All built for the same purpose, but totally different :)

6th gen Celicas (or really Celicas in general) are some of the best entry level sports cars imo, even today. I bought a 1999 GT a couple years ago, and I have loved nearly every second of driving it. The car nearly always does exactly what you want it to do, and it almost feels like it's telling you when you're about to mess up while driving it hard. Sadly the US got stuck with the 2.2l 5S-FE in the GT trim of the car, and didn't get a more powerful engine until the 7th gen GT-S with the ZZE engine. But, with that being said, for an entry level sporty-ish enthusiast car that can be driven daily with no issue, you really can't go wrong. Plus, you can still scare the crap out of your passengers, even with the gutless 5S-FE.

Ok, I'm not gonna lie, that is a perfect interior in my opinion. And I don't mean condition wise, I mean look/layout wise. The steering wheel is absolutely *chef's kiss* Absolutely wonderful car. I remember when I was a few years old there would be that next gen silver Celica driving around the neighborhood and that was one of the first vehicles to get me hooked into cars as a kid. It was so different from all the other cars driving at that time (I'm talking prolly 2004-2006). As time went by I left that car in the past but that video sparked my love to Celicas back again and I strongly consider eyeballing one right now. :D Do you or any of you guys reading it know by any chance if the wheel is stock or aftermarket?

These cars are so so cool. You should review a SAAB from the 90s please. They have some heritage in rally too, not as much as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Subaru, etc. They're awesome though! If you could find a 9000 Aero or a 1999 (specifically) 9-3 SE that would be sweet.

My 2018 sti is analog af. Hydraulic steering, 3 limited slip diffs. Very similar driving experience to a gtfour but with a much more special engine. I don’t mind rebuilding my ej257 every 70,000 miles because those miles are so fun

But most people aren’t that smart. And the EJ is the best and most unique sounding 4 cyl ever made by a damn mile: and a properly set up one adds much more to a driving experience than a 3sgte does. Nothing special or unique there. Just a normal I-4. The EJ257 is the lord’s engine lol. The most perfect motor ever made. I’m okay with rebuilding it more often than a 3sgte, because it’s so much more special feeling/sounding of an engine to build *and* drive. But it’s misunderstood daily and reviewed by millions of people every day who’ve never driven one

Turbo ej’s make me giggle more than any other layout I’ve experienced. 13b’s aren’t far behind. I grew up on v8’s, and I love a n/a v8 driving experience too. But there’s just something special about the feel of driving a properly dialed EJ. The lords engine 🤷‍♂️ Name me another car sold in 2018 that had dual LSD diffs with a manually controlled center diff without being overly computer aided, while still having analog feedback from the controls. Bonus points for fitting me comfortably behind the wheel at 6’6” with having 2 teenage kids in the back comfortably. I’ll wait.
