John Smith, Thank you for your comment. I want to clarify one point: if women do hold their girls back from school, I have found it is only to protect their honor and safety, and often from financial burden. However, I have met so many mothers and aunties who now understand that education is their daughter's only hope... RE: Benazir Bhutto - I would question why women in remote villages are not voting is because of lack of literacy and education vs. lack of support for women leaders. :) GC

She is right about one thing, it's the women who hold other women back, not men, who actually want their girls to become educated (Taliban excluded). But this is something that American people do not understand. When Benazir Bhutto was elected as Prime Minister of Pakistan, it was mostly men who came out to vote for her, even from remote villages.

Hi Genevieve!! I'm from Karachi, Pakistan. I've also been called "Sir" on a number of occasions - and I couldn't help but laugh my head off! (Or just sneak in a smile where laughing would offend!).. As an educated woman, working in the education sector (In suburban schools), I have to say that I'm highly impressed by your work & efforts in some of the most remotest and poorest parts of Pakistan!.. It's a challenge that even I would find daunting to undertake. You are incredibly brave and I want to thank you, along with the women of Pakistan, for choosing our beautiful country for your thesis, and for sharing your stories. You're SO INSPIRING!!! 😊 I wish you all the best on your noble endeavors, and hope that you keep doing this wonderful work.. We hope to see you back in Pakistan! You, and all those with your interests & aspirations, are warmly welcome here! 😊

Saleem Abbas dude the thing is that more than 5 years these Pashtoons have been forced to their homes in the name so called operations. Look when they want to strike you they do so hard as they did recently. A lot Pashtoon villages still don't even have basic needs of lives for example clean drinking water, gas, and electricity. I speak with with facts not like you who has everything and imagines everyone has as well. Leave your computer and fantasy world go to their places and try to live only one week the way they do then come back and appreciate documentaries like this one ☝️

She is saying that "they do not have education, and that they have their customs and traditions and their own culture and history and civilization and they respect women but want to protect their heritage, and usually people think that men oppress women, but that's not true because they want the girls to get educated." that's what she is saying.

Nice to know you were pleased to get an honored seat with the men. You never exact change in a system by helping the downtrodden - it only helps in your own self gratification. You exact change by educating the ones in power or by throttling the ones in power. Christianity stopped slavery in the US through education (or divine wrath). The french revolution stopped the tyranny in France through force.

From Northern Pakistan, I believe you're talking about Gilgit Baltistan. And it's not the whole North but a village in North. It's the bitter truth. Well I am from Baltistan and I agree with you but not hundred percent. These are my Balti people. I have been living among them , we aren't so much educated. But hold on madam . Have you documented , how hard it was for you to reach that place? I believe you had found education loving people there . But we lack facilities. This is your assumption of a Month or a year's research . Believe me ,M there my whole life. My parents never discriminated between girls and boys . Up till 1970s we weren't even connected with the rest of the country. But I believe that my fellow villagers will rise from these slums. Please madam I request you that before making another documentary about women education in northern Pakistan please visit Hunza, Gilgit , Skardu and other educational hubs of the region. So that the world might have a broader perspective about this region. Thank you madam for your interest in this . We really appreciate this. And sorry for the smokey kitchen . We really need the world's attention, but before that we need attention from our own Pakistani Government. Note: Gilgit Baltistan is considered as most educated region of the country .

The northern areas also have a lot of schools particularly for girls. Going to one distant village and taking only their perspective is not reflective of the state of affairs in the entire area. Sad to say but had you been so concerned about the people there, instead of collecting mere statistics, you would make an effort to talk to the relevant authorities and actually do something about it on ground like a few of your countrymen actually do dare to do. Other than that, every area has a different culture in Pakistan as do some rural areas in the USA and there's no harm in respecting that. Regarding the elders doesn't make one small or weak. I hope you try to find the positivity in my country and countrymen too because with all our faults and difficulties we are facing because of our neighbors and other distant countries, we are still the most welcoming, friendly and united of all nations
