Was laid off yesterday after working for the same company for 15 years. I started at the very bottom and worked my way up to 2nd in command. In one brief moment, it all ended in the name of "downsizing". I took a lot of pride in my work but being laid off made me realize that your life isn't supposed to be about a job. Life is meant to be enjoyed and be way more meaningful.

@@rohitchauhan1378 I got hired by an engineering firm that I previously worked with as a client. When they heard I was laid off they called and offered me a position out of state. Making professional relationships is very important! I'm not making the same salary but the job has been way less stressful and the people I work with are much better. I'm still figuring things out but it could be way worse for me. I appreciate you asking after so many months. I pray for all those who lost their jobs this past year.

I got laid off, searched and searched and never landed anything (after a year). So, I decided to start my own business. I knew absolutely nothing! I made that business last 3 years and learned more than I did in the 15 years that I had a fancy corporate job. Unfortunately that business is coming up a little short on the financial front, so I have to re-enter the workforce soon. But, I wouldn't trade it for anything. And now I have a nice little side hustle, and a totally different perspective on everything.

I remember being laid off during covid, having hardly any money to my name and wondering if I'd be able to keep a roof over my head. Three years later I'm making double what I was before and working for a good company. I struggled during those years, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel if you believe there is.

I got laid off today. My boss offered me a position last month and called me today to cut me off. It still hurts but some important lessons learned. The workplace i treated as a family, exiled me. I feel betrayed after putting numerous amounts of extra hours to complete the work. My position was offered to a new comer. Trust was broken, but this is life. People are resilient. Thanks for this wonderful talk ❤

Bottom line: corps expect. No, DEMAND, loyalty. They consider paycheck a form of a charity/handout. They have established a "we against them" culture, and the best way of dealing with this environment is to NOT get emotionally involved and not expect anything that's not going to happen - no matter how much time and effort you invest in your job, you'll eventually get chewed up and spit out.

I don't even enjoy what I'm doing and to find this video and hear you say what I'm feeling is amazing. I know this is not the end for me but a start to a new beginning. Littlemsp D I was let go on Monday, and I actually felt great. The work environment was miserable and toxic, and every single day I felt worst. On the first January 2020, I remember questioning myself why the heck I was still here? And then I really thought in leaving that horrible work. So In a way, I already psicologically had quit the job. So when I was finally let go, besides the initial anger, I felt truly great. Best of all, I am receiving tons of much better opportunities, which I should have searched before.

Getting laid off is often seen as a negative and painful experience, but it can also be a powerful wake-up call. It makes you realize how deeply entrenched you were in a system that relied on you to carry out tedious, underappreciated work without proper recognition or reward. When you’re the “donkey” in the system, driving things forward but being met with little more than insults or indifference, it’s easy to lose sight of your worth. Being laid off gives you the space to step back, reflect, and re-evaluate your path. It’s a moment to understand that you are more than the role you held and that your true value goes far beyond the tasks you were performing. This shift in perspective can be liberating. It allows you to understand your strengths, rediscover what you’re passionate about, and set new standards for what you deserve in your next position. When you move on from that situation and enter a new job, it’s like stepping into a different game with fresh rules. You bring with you the lessons learned from the past, the awareness of your worth, and the confidence to advocate for yourself in ways you may not have before. Your next chapter can be better, where your skills are respected, your contributions are valued, and you are finally in an environment where growth is possible and supported. Being laid off can be painful, but it can also be a catalyst for transformation and self-discovery. It pushes you to find an environment where you are appreciated, where your work has meaning, and where you can truly thrive.

Made good relations with so many people and invested so much time on the firm, but they announced this to me before I left for my holidays to my home country after 4 years. I was laid off last week and I immediately started to applying for jobs and unemployment. I was ignoring my emotions until it got to the point where now I have applied for over 40 jobs. I now have been struggling with guilt, anger, and feeling like a failed which is something I was not use to becasue I have been so career driven. I wasn't perfect but I always improved and helped as much as I could. Maybe I wasn't happy, maybe that affected my mood at work. I didn't feel fulfillment and didn't like being the bad guy to people or dealing with terrible people. I worked in management and thought me and the other guy were very open and worked very well together until it happened out of the blue and told me what the reason was and that the paper work was already filled out and done. So there was no explaining on my side. Now I'm struggling between the choice of getting stable as fast as possible to continue what I was doing or taking the loss, Going back home, and finding something I rather do/ a career change. I hate feeling and I hate that how hard I worked that now it won't even be a reliable reference for a job employer. This video helped a bit and hope I can figure it out before something else goes wrong. I always enjoy ted talks but this is one of the first times I have watched one on a topic that hurts me and others so much.

I was just laid off from a job I have had for 16 years. I was given a severance package however part of the package is to continue working for another month and help those who still have jobs move to another location. Never been in this position before... I would love to turn the package down and quit but I'm not financially able to do so. I guess I should be grateful I got something. I truly knew it was coming and wanted a change in my life. Always a silver lining if you bother to look and offer the Universe your desire for change. A change for the better even if you can't quite see the change at this very moment. You will...🌝

I entered the job market just before the Pandemic after graduating with my BFA in Illustration. Thing is, being a creative requires that you work jobs unrelated to your profession while funding your actual job as a creative, at least where I live on top of paying off student loan debt. Started off working a part time job at an automotive dealership for a year, managed to find full time work as a courier for Covid-19 and Cancer patients before getting laid off. Once office jobs started opening back up, I tried to apply full time, but only managed to work part time again due to lack of experience at a college. Four months ago, I finally landed a full time job at a clinic. I surprisingly fell in love with my new job, as I managed to incorporate my experiences as an Illustrator and Graphic Designer from my Graphic Design internship, and my administrative experience from by two previous part time office jobs. Even better, I finally managed to strike a deal with a book publisher to publish my current and future work as an artist and writer! While it doesn't cover expenses, I was living my dream life... and I just got laid off at the job I started falling in love with. Currently in the process of finding a full time office job again before collecting unemployment. I swear, feels like I can't have nice things and just enjoy myself. This was nice to listen to while job searching.

My best friend was laid off a few months ago. I can see it breaking him down with every denial. I’m hoping things turn around soon. I’m talking to everyone I know that could possibly have an opening. It’s a stressful world we live in. It’s scary and unstable.

Cassie Waller i got laid off last month. Most importantly now is to focus on your action plan. For me is to polish my resume and keep sending. Reach out to some connections if you have. And don't give up. Treat it as giving yourself a momentary break. But treat finding a job as a new temperorary full time job.

Although I did get fired, I still have an income coming from a property I own, so money really isn't an issue at this stage, but the fact that not working and not contributing to society and being 47 yrs old, makes me depressed and unworthy and uncertain about my job prospects, but listening to this has helped and hopefully might inspire me to a better quality of life.....thanks.

Practically everyone in private industry is getting laid off because we are now in the gig economy, aka the alternate work force (contract jobs, part time jobs, temporary jobs). The latest statistic is that 94% of all new jobs created is alternative work force work.

I must be the only person who doesn't see the "good" in getting laid off. It financially and psychologically ruined me. I have severe social and performance anxiety, which makes *getting* a job exceptionally difficult. Once I *have* a job, I can try to "push through" the mental burdens I was beset with, but that initial barrier to entry is definitely significant. No amount of pep talks will change that.

Your feelings are very understandable. I am struggling in the same way. Would you consider developing a spiritual practice? There is so much as individuals we can not control. This type of practice may help. God bless you.

I got laid off in 2002. Took a 6 mos UI and vaca while looking. Got 3 offers before my UI was up. Looking back i felt the good Lord just gave me a break. It was a great 6 mos of my life ; learned alot; learned to invest wisely😊; now, i hope i get laid off again 😊

I'm being made redundant but luckily I've learned to not get stressed in these situations. A company restructure essentially rug-pulled my crucial role out from underneath me and I was earmarked for redundancy without the decision-makers even looking at my abilities to deliver solutions and product to the customer. It's impossible to make any sense of such illogical company decisions. If the company is willing to give productive staff the boot (and I'm one of many good staff members affected) then you NEED to get out, not fight to stay in the hope it'll get better. It never does.
