Love is a four-letter word, too. Powerful message! I hope so many people in so many capacities take this to heart. And to be clear, it doesn’t matter how old the “children” are. I was in my late twenties when my parents divorced. The slings and arrows between the warring factions cause irreparable damage and navigating family events is more often than not unnecessarily painful and exhausting.

Love, though just a four-letter word, carries a profound message! I hope people from all walks of life truly internalize its significance. This TEDx talk had an important message - kids don't belong in the middle of their parents' divorce fights. The speaker, Stu Weintraub, shared how over 1 million kids each year in America are hurt by their parents' divorce conflicts. Stu wants to give these kids a voice. His main idea is to get divorcing parents to focus on mediation instead of lawsuits in court. He wants parents to get help from clergy, counselors, and coaches instead of fighting. Stu used tools to help with his disability while giving the talk. He hopes his talk helps kids caught in divorce conflicts and reduces stigma about disabilities. Stu's talk was inspiring and spread waves of love. I'm glad I got to see it live at TEDxSanDiego.

Even with a therapist on my mother's side she did so much damage to my sister and me. She wanted revenge and spoke so horribly about my father (who wasn't the best guy tho) at the end I felt like a failure because he was my father and not even my mother would use any more kind way to talk about him. When people used to say that I looked like him, it made me feel like a monster. I think my mom could've used a better way or words to describe what happened and who he was

I'm inspired by his idea of changing how parents divorce in our country by advocating mediation over litigation. The emphasis on seeking support from clergy, counseling, and coaching instead of resorting to court is a brilliant approach. It shows that divorce doesn't have to be a battlefield, but rather a conscious and compassionate process for the well-being of the entire family.

Divorce is horrific. It destroys both parties, the family and the extended family. If kids are involved, it destroys them, and their futures. If the kids are destroyed, then it gradually destroys society, and then society becomes a wasteland of immorality, suffering, pain and sin. Thanks for the helpful video.

Well said, Stuart! As a therapist who has witness countless children caught in the crossfires of their parents divorce, it never occurred to me that there might be a more feasible solution. After all, people of means generate pre-nuptials where there is an agreement that says that in the event the marriage does not work out, the terms are already set. In this case, what is being protected is not money or property but are far more precious asset, our children.

wow, what an Excellent video on divorce. Most parents Never think about how it impacts their children they only care about their own happiness. I like the thought of having clergy and/or counseling before or at the beginning of the marriage to hopefully save the marriage.

“If parents are spending more on lawyers than family counseling, they have it backwards!” This is exactly what my wife is doing to me. Not a penny spent on counseling, but she went straight to a lawyer and served me with separation papers and then a divorce after our house was sold. Still no counseling has been attempted. She has been doing it all backwards. It’s super sad for our 5 children. I am powerless to protect them as a man.

Sorry that is happening. There is a way to be emotionally detached, be loving, and show the children positive energy... I hope to change the way divorce occurs... There is a different way when children are involved.
