TEDx Talks

Күн бұрын

This engaging talk teaches us about the core elements of autism and the benefits of early detection. After decades of working with autistic children Dr. Montovani likens 3rd party involvement to 911 emergency. His hope is that close family and friends could bring up the idea of autism early on if a child has indications. This is something that can be affected by effort, earlier the better. Dr. John Mantovani is a child neurologist, founding
Medical Director of Mercy Kids Autism Center and
Clinical Associate Professor at Washington University.
A nationally recognized Autism expert, he will speak
about early recognition and effective therapy for
this condition that affects 1 out of 59 children. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Autism is a spectrum condition where your abilities are very much dependent on both your Intelligence and what/how you learn. The key is to help people with autism gain control over their surroundings. The diagnostic criterion is based on 13 observations of behaviour and that the behaviour is significantly deviant in at least three areas, but there is a huge difference between being 30% deviant in three areas and 90% deviant in 13 areas. Autism really only means delayed speech, difficulty in at least two aspects of social contact. Instead of adopting a neoreligious stand for say ABA or TEACCH, respect that some kids benefit immensely from being pushed into uncomfortable social contact and for others it can become abusive or be so from the onset.

@@PeteS_1994 maybe there’s no strong evidence but there’s possible a link that should be look in to. @@jeanguerrero8305 Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder, not a disease. The field of epigenetics is making strides in identification of genes that cause some diseases. For example, there are findings that some autoimmune diseases could be triggered by an immune response to a common cold virus. That innocuous cold can trigger the turning "on" of specific genes. In type 1 diabetes there are 4 genes that need to be "on" to develop type 1. Many siblings of T1Ds have 3 out those 4 genes on, but do not develop type 1. Autism on the other hand is a fundamental difference of brain development in the womb. Maybe as science develops we can find what factors during gestation can increase or decrease risk.

@@wickjezek1101 a parent sent me an article about the correlation of the vaccine and autism.
