In other words, it means that when you're following your "primal inclinations" that Robert talks about, you develop your own unique perspective from your insights, and opportunities that are in alignment with where you are with your understanding of that, will be attracted to you, instead of you having to seek them yourself. So how to work with this? Keep following the thread of your interests. All of it might not make sense right now, but that's the point. Keep following your interests, and at some point, you'll be able to connect the dots between them and you'll have clarity on your unique purpose and position. Strive to know yourself, your perspective, position, and passions in this life, share them with others and you will be known and remembered.

It means taking the time down on your craft. It may seem small right now, but it will eventually compound. People will start to notice your improvement, and opportunities will be there for you, not because there aren't anything before, but because you are actually aware of them now.

This will make you see patterns in the world, understanding why things are happening (this is where I am at) 3. Using information. Doing the things people who are where you want to be tell you to do. Now, look at what happens to you as you adopt this very different, internally driven mindset. Because you are headed in a direction that resonates with you personally and emotionally, the hours of practice and study don't seem so burdensome. You can sustain your attention and your interests for a much longer period of time. What excites you is the learning process itself, overcoming obstacles, increasing your skill level. You are immersed in the Present instead of obsessing over the future, and so you pay greater attention to the work itself, and the people around you, developing patience and social intelligence.

This is my interpretation from what I have learned from him: Knowing your interest is knowing your identity, and that what matters in the end. Despite of the setbacks or a lot of failures, those thing won't matter, because you enjoy the process of doing it, just having fun while leanring to do better at the same time. Because of your love in your craft , the rest is just a byproduct ( being promoted to work, finally selling a book million of copies, landed your dream job . . .etc). Years of hardwork wil pay off someday, and you never know that you have transformed yourself because after all those years it seems you are just having fun. And that is because what you do is aligned with your interest ( your identity ). *** hope this make sense to whoever have read this🙂

Great speech. Philosopher Alan Watts puts this another way: "If you do really like what you’re doing, it doesn’t matter what it is, you can eventually become a master of it. It’s the only way to become a master of something, to be really with it. And then you’ll be able to get a good fee for whatever it is. So don’t worry too much. Somebody’s interested in everything. And anything you can be interested in, you’ll find others who are."

Mr Greene is truly a beacon of hope for so many of us that feels trapped, under utilised and/or valued for being 'different'... thank you for sharing your experience, belief and 'Laws' that some find hard to understand in this world but not have a better hold of the concepts and thus fight to burst through our self-manifested shield to go out there to the world to share our own unique sense of being, now that we are 'transformed'.. 😊

Robert’s work is transforming to me. We are all on a path. We, including myself sometimes let life dictate this for us. To find your own path is to stop and realize as he says we have a duty to find our own. Realization of this was my first key to unlocking my path and to find peace in life to at least be striving towards it, discovering it. It is not a job or title that defines me but myself. I love to learn and share with others, to make others feel empowered fills me with joy. It’s simple but makes me whole. I don’t know what this means yet for the rest of my days but I am embracing it. Embrace what makes you feel whole and the rest will fall in place. Don’t know if this helped anyone else but it helped me to put this out into the world. I wish all of you joy and peace in your soul. Wander but don’t ever feel lost, but be seeking and you will find you. Read Robert’s books as a guide to help you on the path, find a mentor, journal. I have experienced exactly what you talk about toward the end of your presentation. I too, had quit my job to follow my spiritual path, just to find out that this way was not sustainable. I went back to work two years later and now I am on constantly figuring things about myself, but I am doing small steps. I am happy in my job and make larger progress than I had anticipated in designing and finding my path.

Love this speech. It has made me more convinced of our choice of home educating / unschooling having been the right one. My kids love learning and have specific interests that we just let them learn amazing amounts of. They get to make mistakes and go wrong and change interests. I love what I see developing in my children. I wish I had had that chance. In stead I had a life time of searching as I was told very often as a child that I couldn't do whatever career path I was considering because of various reasons. In the end I doubt any of those reasons were really as factually as they were presented. I have settled and struggled throughout my working career. I think, now that I'm 50, that I have finally found something that I can get fully behind. So far I have enjoyed the education, now starting a business. I'm quite passionate about it.

I don’t usually find it productive to comment on YT videos but, Mr. Greene is absolutely correct! However, there’s deeper truth and significance to his talk. He speaks from a point of experience and introspection. We are “Engineered” by our experiences and thoughts which goes beyond physical and mental processes. Those who are interested should search for “Inner Engineering”. It explains why we as human beings are the only species that seek infinite growth. Also search YT for Samadhi. To that one seeker reading this, best wishes.

I love his 48 laws book. It allows me to understand and avoid or handle sociopaths who crave power in my life. Most people do not crave power over others, but those who do can be very annoying and even dangerous.

Intelligent TED talk from Robert Greene - the author of 48 Laws of Power. I'm curious.. What was your key to transforming yourself into a new career?
@StygianStyle10 жыл бұрын
That's what his whole talk was about. He basically said look back to what you wanted in early childhood, and get in touch with the deepest part of yourself.

This is exactly how using and following and living by the Law of Attraction works. As R. Greene observed - that fateful meeting was no coincide; but rather a result of his constant sifting and sorting and asking the Universe. Bravo.

I am not big fan of TED, I found most of the orators are charlatans, who came to the auditorium to sell informercial. But the speech by Robert Greene changed my mind a little. I can feel he spoke from the bottom of his heart, he was ingenious and sincere. I am especially drawn to his voice and cadance. I can listen to this video again and again just for his voice.

Even though I do not ethically agree with his book 48 laws of power, which is nothing but an factual representation on truth in real life, this guy is one of the Authors who has made a difference in my life. The meaning in the works that he has published is deep... very deep. if you understand it, it makes you humble. Love you Robert!!! :)

+Nixon Varghese But it is a helpful book to make you more aware of what is going on around you. And a few of the laws I have found useful, like learning to hold my tongue more often and to control my emotions - not outshining the master. Obviously some I don't put to practice, but just watch out for others who do.

after listening to this. Exactly, I have realized that I was running away from practically doing my work by just adding certificate over certificate into portfolio but not the skills. Finally, I concluded for myself that it feels boring or arduous when life wants to teach us something whether it's new skills acquisition or transforming our personality. Listen to this over and over again. when you feel you are running away from work tell yourself that Mr. ABC! don't quit now, you are on the path to becoming better.

This is so true. I had a few false starts but learnt from them and am very happy with my current work. whilst a colleague followed a straight path from uni and is always complaining about how much she hates the job, which she is actually very good at. I think work is a calling, that is why it is so powerful. it is spiritua as he says but cannot be the basis of our identity otherwise we're going to lose perspective.
