And this is a perfect example of why it pays to be mindful. Our bodies, our minds, they give us signs when it is time to slow down and initiate any self care practices.
@Rachel-Sheerin

So true! Mindfulness and burnout are definitely dark and light sides of our mind/body connections. In my experience as an event emcee, I see a lot of attendees at conferences with their ears to their shoulders and have been incorporating breathing breaks when we come back to encourage a mindful moment (if the meeting planner approves it!). Is that an effective practice, in your opinion? Do you have any others you would suggest?

I am so grateful that we are having these discussions now. It doesn't matter if you ND or NT, burnout is REAL. We for so long have been on such a "go, go, go" trajectory I think it's hard for some of us to admit and accept that we must take time to realign ourselves, find balance and be kind to ourselves. Even when we are doing things we love it is still so easy to lose all capacity and not have anything left to even feed yourself. Kudos to this woman!

Alex, I am so sorry that happened to you with your friends -- and I'm so glad you listened to your instinct! When I burned out, I barely told anyone for fear they wouldn't understand. When first became a keynote speaker and virtual emcee, I had the same fear for a while. But what I realized was that the more serious I took myself, my burnout, and goals - the more serious everyone around me did too. All that to say, I bet you will be a great friend and understanding supporter of all you meet who are going through burnout - you are a light in their dark moments!

@Marek, you're spot on. Breaks, whether they be mini breaks throughout the day to stretch, stand outside, pet the dog, watch a funny clip here on KZbin - or longer breaks like a hike in nature, reading a book or travel, is vital. I think the events industry can be so draining. My partner did it for 10 years and just like this woman, the job she once loved, where she thrived and has a sense of purpose ended up making her miserable. I think no matter where you are on the spectrum of work and the investment of your energy and talents of it, I think the key is that you LIKE what you are doing. The balance you strike. The time and energy and focus you invest. If you don't love what you're doing... CHANGE IT! Permission granted - and if you love it, then carry on with good wishes sent to you my friend. The power of choice - it's powerful - and I'm grateful you tuned into my talk. Thank you for the conversation and feedback!

Robert, that is such an eye-opening statement. Oftentimes, when you feel that you are so deeply burned out, that the cycle of life is a cycle of frustration and fatigue, that means that you have changed so radically from the person you were while not updating your life to the person you are NOW. Are you living in all of the shoulds of your past, your beliefs? What can you let go of today that isn't serving you? Do you want to start a new life? And if so, what are you waiting for? Much love and strength to you. xx -Rachel
