True. My sister sarcastically asked me if I was able to pass my degree because she was jealous of me being able to get into uni. I said with confidence that I would get a degree in three years which I did. Being challenged gives us a motivation to succeed.

I don't mean to be insensitive and I cannot begin to fathom to put myself in your shoes. I accomplished nothing in life almost. But instead of accomplishing all these things and pushing yourself more and more to get out of comfort zone- which are all virtuous qualities mind you- I ask you a simple question: why didn't you drop everything and book a simple flight to Taiwan to be next to your mom next day? And yes you posted that photo, and had you did this real out-of-comfort-zone simple act which really makes a man instead of these accomplishments : how come you didn't riff on that? Great talk, but sometimes the most difficult things a man can do in life are the simple things.

That's Fujian hua, which is spoken widely in southern parts of China if I want to be pedantic on the language's etymology. Taiwanese are basically those group of people who did not support the majority party that won and decided to flee to Taiwan and colonized that place. That's history, not apologist or revisionism.

Surprisingly, apparently no one in the comments mentions or knows that this friend Tony HSieh died in 2020. In fact, he apparently committed suicide and watching this video, the experience with his mother definitely marked him.
