A video that should be seen by anyone who has the ethics or is enough moral to think about the result of what he is doing and care if he/she is wrong. Some people might investigate, others might write affidavits, serve in a jury or become witnesses (testimony), charge or judge or might simply reach to criminalize others, trusting just their intuition.

I totally missed the change in the second picture though. "BLINK" by Malcolm Gladwell is all about (what I would call) intuition and how and when it is used both successfully and unsuccessfully.

Just to clarify, the straw-like substance was esparto, not hemp.

Good video. This is exactly why I am always "iffy" about my jugdment, recalls, etc. I usually don't say I'm 100% sure about anything. lol.

@youpaymyrent exactly, it just looks like the picture changes. He must have a copy of the picture on the rights underneath the picture on the left that's in his hand, then he puts it on the table and slides the back one (the copy) over to the guy, hiding the original picture on the left under his arm, and then pulling it back.
@LastSasquatch13 жыл бұрын
That sleight of hand. I've watched it like 5 times and I can't figure out how he switches them.

@youpaymyrent yea i just watched it again, that's absolutely how he does it.

In several examples that were given, science or scientific thinking were the solution: DNA testing, paper testing, and statistical/quantitative thinking in the Madoff case.

Would be cool if after one of the videos - some other bald guy would continue the talk instead of him; and only at the end he would tell the people.

Having just seen this I STILL have a hard time believing that you wouldn't notice the gorilla. I thought it was a trick to get us to count incorrectly! :-) Not that I doubt what he is saying, I just saw the gorilla very very clearly and can't really imagine not having seen it.

What's crazy is most people don't realize the deeper meanings in things...How many people realize that he actually just disproved atheism, not necessarily proving a certain God, but more-so a certain point...If we THINK we know more than we do know in reality,..THAT SAYS A LOT! The point i'm referring to, is the Christians that say that God does so & so, and those that dispute that as nonsense aren't realizing how much they actually do not know/see...This lecture should be viewed as self-reflect

Did anyone notice, or care, how he mentioned the original book of the poems of the portuguese was printed on paper made from straw or straw like substance? Wouldn't that be hemp? I mean, maybe people in early 19th century used a different straw like substance to make paper... that I've never heard of. Why wouldn't he just say hemp?

Fascinating. But what does any of this have to do with intuition?
@Javieraguirrellosa4 жыл бұрын
For me you, got the point, this is not intuition but only about human senses perception. Intuition is the ability to understand something instinctively, without the need for conscious reasoning, so is like instant knowledge, is not a guess or a perception nuance, because perception is not in charge when intuition eventually happens. Simons haves a wrong confidence on the meaning of the word intuition and I have found this error in others, is a very common misconception. I cannot say if intuition exists or not, should check out scientific experimentation to have some clue, but here that's not the point.

I noticed it peripherally, but subconsciously ignored it lol. that may be the point he's trying to prove

The comments made make me doubt my ability and capacity to see what is actually there. I feel that I am only seeing a small part of what is in front of me.

For a flipside on intuition, read Malcolm Gladwell's book "Blink". In that case, the intuition was useful in the hands of top experts. He discuses it in the youtube talk: /watch?v=3TRioBKpUwY

its not broken, its just a partial link. go to any youtube vide and replace the part from " /watch?v=" and on with my partial section. there was a time on youtube when partial links were the best way to communicate specific videos. thank goodness that is no longer the case.

@tmwilli6 - actually, he DID say it was hemp, at least 17 times though out the video. Your intuition is lose, man!
