I am so incensed and furious for now an hour after finishing the video and learning of their paroles. These two women are socio/psychopaths, they intentionally used love as the means to lure someone away to then torture and murder them. They psychologically tortured her for at least a year making up the rumours and pretended to console her to her face. This was something they relished, took pleasure in...but seeing her emotionally distraught just wasn't satisfying enough eventially. They were able to commit these acts because they have no concept of love and empathy, and they didn't learn to have some in prison, they learned to better hide its absence. They are absolutely a danger to society then and now for as long as they have the time and opportunity to commit violence in secret. Also remember that the whole thing about them being angry with missy (and each other) was all a long con ruse. Pretending to have a falling out and acting as if you believed a rumour that you yourself made up, putting on high intensity fake emoitonal outbursts that lasts for 45+ min of fake arguing that seems so real and genuine to someone who was close to you for a decade simply as a distraction or theatre as you both build up to your sick twist. Eva wasn't present for the final hour of torture in the river, but I have a very distinct feeling that at some point before they pushed her face into the water for the final time, that they revealed to her that they never believed the rumours at all and in fact they started them in the first place. Just to see the horrific realization on her face that she isn't about to die due to a misunderstanding at all...but because they just wanted to kill her. Her two best friends, because she loved them - and they viewed that as a weakness to exploit. I fear for any children either of those women have had or might have.

@Skagenpige88 Yeah, 3 years later after one of them lived comfortably in that poor kid's grieving family's home. How do you not speak up immediately after finding out that a cold blooded killer is sleeping in their own victim's bed? In my opinion, Eva is *almost* as bad as the other two. The only reason why I'm not fully blaming her is because she's literally the only one who was able to solve the case & provide closure to the family. But 3 years is a long time. Her karma? Watching over her own back every single day for the rest of her life knowing two monsters you put in a cage are finally free. Once a killer, always a killer.

@@skagenpige88 "While I agree that it's horrible, all that would have resulted in is that they would be out 3 years sooner by now" ^^ Not necessarily true. They were charged with second degree murder 3 years later because the jury wasn't convinced it was premeditated. Now imagine if Eva told police immediately? We'd have a fresh story with different jury members & quite possibly a harsher conviction. And that's not even the biggest takeaway. By Eva not speaking up, Karen moving into Missy's home is huge! Every night Missy's family went to bed, they were vulnerable & helpless. All it would have taken was for Karen to snap or create another devious plan with Laura to kill the family, Eva, the boyfriends, or even new popular girls in school. Knowing as teens that they just got away with murder, them being dumb enough to do it again wouldn't come as a surprise. Thankfully it never happened because we all know the results, but imagine every single moment for each passing day & night that they were free, a lot could have happened. Eva was just extremely lucky everything went the way it did on her part. Especially being the only witness to this tragic incident.

@@fridagylterud9491yes, they were all close friends growing up but by the time they got to high school Michelle (Missy) made new friends and they started hanging out less. Karen actually got pregnant and was a single mom do she couldn’t hang out as much anymore. She actually started dating one of Missy’s ex boyfriends but he still had a Thing for her and Karen knew it and was insecure and jealous that Missy got so much attention from guys. It’s funny how Karen decades later put the blame on Laura for the murder and she was just a bystander that felt compelled to help Laura hide Missy’s body after she died. I wasn’t there and I didn’t really know these girls except seeing them at Magic Mountain on occasion but she’s full of *hit! The both beat this girl into almost unconsciousness and then put that heavy log on her head together to drown her! They tagged teamed her and left her for dead. They were both petty nasty jealous insecure girls that believed by killing Missy all their insecurities and troubles would be gone! How delusional and evil. I know it’s been decades now my but my heart goes out to Missy’s family. I want to feel bad for Karen and Laura’s family too but it seems they haven’t learned a damn thing spending there prime life in prison. Karen lying about what happen speaks volumes about what kind of person she is and was. She blamed a girl that was once her best friend for her f**ked up life. I mean Karen is the one that slept with some random guy and got pregnant at 15 who wanted nothing to do with her afterwards. Now we know that it was Karen herself, with the assistance of Laura, who spread the rumors she got bullied for in the first place! And after her release, Karen tried to profit off of a BOOK she wrote about murdering Missy, while claiming she was a “changed person…an adult” now. To the point where Missy’s family had to help enact Missy’s Law in California, to help families of victims know if murderers try to profit off of their victims. The scariest part is, that they had so many chances to stop while killing Missy. It's not like they shot her in the head and there was no turning back. They beat her up, tied her hands behind her back and then drowned her and saw her fight for her life. Imagine holding your "Best friend's" head under water and see how she fights for her life. You have to be an absolute monster if you can watch someone fight for their life and still don't consider to stop your action. Even if you are full of hate for the person you are drowning, at some point in a normal mind you would realize what you are doing and you would stop. Killing someone with a gun takes 1-2 seconds and I understand that maybe then you could say that you didn't really want to do it but the anger took over and it happened so fast. But what these two monsters did to Missy is one of the most brutal and horrifying things I've ever heard. It was planned way ahead with the fake fight between Laura and Karen. They even had these things with them to tie Missys hands. It was a pure evil plan, that was executed exactly how it was planned weeks before! The biggest surprise to me today in 2022 is that Eva (Ava? I don't think we were told how she spelled her name) managed to stay out of prison as an accessory to murder. I'm torn-on the one hand, she is just as guilty as Karen and Laura because she conceivably had multiple times where she could have potentially interjected herself and stood up for Missy, and as Mr. Ballen said, she did nothing. Having said that, we don't know the relationship between her and Karen and why Karen decided to bring her with in the first place, nor is it likely, with the level of planning that the two girls put into this and the level of animosity between them that she could have done anything except get herself beaten and/or killed as well. Certainly she couldn't get Laura or Karen to change their minds; the best she could have hoped for is to try and give Missy a chance to escape. With how f'd our justice system is though, had she gone to prison, she'd likely be the only one of the 3 still there in 2022.

@Jackson Spence Jail is where someone goes while they are waiting for trial. After/if they are convicted, they get a sentence which is carried out in a prison. It's a subtle distinction that not a lot of people are actually aware of, and I point it out here only because you seemed unsure of which word to use. I hope I didn't overstep, and you find this useful in the future.

I’ve been going blind since I was 11 and nowadays as I near my 30s I can barely see anything. I love your content. I don’t need visuals, instead, the way you tell stories gives me all the info I need to imagine the scene.

I would be curious to know what your take is on this interview Karen Severson did with Dr. Phil based on audio alone. Her body language and facial expressions give her away, but I am guessing her voice tones / inflections will all by themselves. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fZi7mYqcjtJqbrc

I just noticed a different level / perspective: They feel bad because their best friend is cute and they are not. So, they spread a rumor that their best friend is sleeping with their boyfriends to make her life miserable. Hence, they apparently had boyfriends. So what would have been the whole point in being jealous of their best friend's appearance? Why would they want to have a different appearance? To drop their boyfriends and get "better" ones?
