Don’t understand how the school said his life was hell yet did nothing about it

If he wanted to change his gender or his pronouns and the parents show concern against it, the school and state would be all over that. But torture, starvation, and "living in hell" didn't warrant the school fulfilling their duties as mandated court reporters? It makes no sense. Civilization is so screwed up.

The frightening thing is realising there are probably literally thousands of children going through this type of torture.

Sadly, it's true 😢 I witnessed four such cases in my previoys school, we would give the kids free school dinners knowing this would be their only meal. Reports were made to CPS who had them labelled as "at risk" and that was all 😢 As a teacher, I realised just how vastely spread child abuse and neglect are and I ended up quitting to train adults because I couldn't take it anymore.

Rest in Peace, Timothy. I watch a lot of these videos on KZbin and other sites. I watch a lot of serial killer and crime documentaries. I watched this trial as it happened and it was, by a mile, the most sad and disgusted I've ever been with the recounting of someone's crimes. I couldn't imagine treating anyone this way, especially a family member. It's just so incredibly cruel. The fact that they committed this act so slowly and knowingly forced his pain to linger over such a long period of time is just awful. The loneliness that little boy must have felt in his final weeks is excruciating. I'm not very religious, but I pray he's in a better place. Literally, I pray for this child.

Horrifying. That poor child was literally tortured. I do know the older brother did all these things, but the mother could absolutely be a master manipulator who groomed him to do those things, and even groomed him into enjoying it. I actually do feel some sympathy for him as well, I feel like he's most likely an abuse victim too on some level. mentally.. emotionally... without that mother, who knows? he could have turned out to be a completely normal person. But the judge was right, in his current state, he's dangerous, and he's still guilty. That woman deserves a fate worse than death.

I think the judge failed to realize that Paul was undergoing extreme emotional abuse by his mother called emotional incest. The levels of enmeshment he was dealing with, being his mom's supporter/therapist/jailer, etc. and her isolating him from his father by sharing their marital business with him (most of which COULD BE MADE UP BY HER)--- of course, he lives at home so he needs it to be a safe space and he wants parental love and to not be abandoned. The best ways to get that and maintain his worldview of parental love is to obey his mother and be there for her despite her seeking comfort from him in abnormal ways and encouraging him to be an abuser to his younger brother. I'm sure he thought many times about standing up for his brother, but what would it mean for how he would now be treated? It's a dilemma. I'm sure he questioned if what his mom said was true, but then facing the agony that you abandoned your father figure on your own (so now you're alone) and that the person you trust the most is a liar is too much to handle. Paul also comes across as mentally much younger than he should be, almost socially inept, and is far too skinny for his age which are also signs of a potentially abused kid. I do think he deserved jail time but i think 30->life ignores the obvious signs he is a victim as well.

Any caregiver can become a version of this mother. As soon as you start seeing your child as a problem, you're in danger of becoming cruel or neglectful in some way. Caregiver burnout is a thing, and its rough. I work with dimentia patients, who can often be aggressive or irritated. I constantly remind myself that what they are experiencing is far worse than my side of it. And that their behavior isn't always under their control. This helps me respond to a literal assult, with a calm and caring response to deescalate.
