For those of you who weren’t aware: Michael J. Fox’s got his big break in television on a show called Family Ties. Very popular when it came out; lasted several years. He eventually got into movies, but everyone thinks Back to the Future was his first time. Turns out he filmed Teen Wolf first, but the studio sat on it, delaying its release. Then he was cast in BTTF and it became a huge success. After that happened, the studio sitting on Teen Wolf released it a few months after BTTF once Michael J. Fox’s name was known on the big screen. So everyone asked Michael why he chose to film a silly comedy about being a teenage werewolf after doing a cool movie like Back to the Future, and he was like: “I didn’t!”

@@noisepuppet Ohmigosh! I’ve met him! It was at a local Xmas party years ago. My wife’s aunt lives in Glendale, California, and we and our kids were invited to attend. I didn’t recognize Michael Gross at first because he was clean shaven at the time. A few years went by and by the time he was able to attend the annual party again, my kids had finally grown old enough to watch Tremors. I politely asked him if my kids could meet him because they loved the movie and really liked his character. He said “sure” and I introduced him to my four sons and daughter. He offered to let them sit on the couch and nearby chairs while I excused myself because I didn’t want to appear like I was guiding the conversation or want to reveal how starstruck I was. I foolishly didn’t even think to ask for a photo! But they must have mingled with him for almost an hour, probably asking him lots of questions about the movie and acting, but I wasn’t going to eavesdrop. The following year I crossed paths with him again and thanked him for his generosity and the thrill he gave my kids meeting him the previous year. He said no problem, they were great. Me: 😱🤗😅

This channel is so great because you can tell the authors actually respect these movies! It’s so easy to just label something from the past as “problematic” and throw it on the bon fire of “toxic media” that must be eschewed and shunned else we never reach the promised paradise of equity, equality, tolerance, destruction of the patriarchy, etc… Movies from the past are so much more NUANCED than socially conscious audiences give them credit for, so what makes this channel so goddamn hilarious is that the humor points out the things that make modern audiences squirm/cringe, but without ever throwing the art nor the artists who made them under the bus. The past indeed was just doing its best, and we’re no different!

I was 7 when this came out and I begged my older brother to take me to see it in theaters. He eventually agreed but it was a double feature that started with Return of the Living Dead (which melted my brain)... after going through Tar Man, talking zombies that ran and knew how to work doors and electronic devices, I was not in the right mental state to even process Teen Wolf and only remembered the basketball scenes and the closet hookup from that viewing. Would take repeat VHS rentals of Teen Wolf along with Teen Wolf 2 for it to become a beloved favorite.

@bec7080 Yes... and I think I appreciate it. It gave me nightmares, but made me a horror lover & cynical; it allowed me to be a "cool kid" in college hosting horror films since like 98% of my peers never saw them. Re-Animator (my cut had cunnilingus scene - I SAW IT IN 80S AS A KID IN THEATERS - and thought I was crazy no other cut had it until special edition DVD in early 00s... WTF?) Return of the Living Dead, From Beyond, Halloween 3. Of course Elm Street & F13th was thrown in, but I had seen things. My mom rented for family night, "faces of Death" & 'The Exterminator 2" as a VHS movie noght in 90s... oh, I also remember seeing Penitentiary II in theaters as a kid. It was in '84 though as a double feature in a Bronx grindhouse theater with Rocky III.

It was basically a total inversion from the Movie character.

It's not about your dream coming true could suck... that's dumb. Being a werewolf was never Scott's dream anymore than being good at basketball was... he was looking to quit the team before he became a wolf. Not because he was bad (the whole team was bad), but because he realized he didn't like it. The movie's about finding value in yourself, not in how others see you. Zelig is a better movie for this message, but that's what it is. Scott didn't want to be average (he and Louis are the only kids in the movie with ordinary, non-nicknames... and Louis is the version of Scott that doesn't need the wolf, btw) because he wanted everyone to like him, but the only person who liked him for himself was Boof, and she made him realize his true self was special enough. I do, however, 100% agree with you on one point... Finstock is the greatest hero in cinema. Although maybe not so much the character as Jay Tarses's performance, because the character returns in Teen Wolf Too and is not so great... and neither is the character.
