notes regarding the comment section of this video: business: I do not make money off of you coming to the dentist to get your teeth cleaned. I get paid hourly whether or not my patients show up. I made this video because I genuinely care to spread awareness about what can happen if you try to scale your teeth at home and something goes wrong. between visits: If you're looking for ways to keep up with your teeth between dental visits, please know that proper brushing and proper flossing is all you need! If you really want to go above and beyond -- consider adding a water flosser and tongue scraper and maybe even interdental brushes. Here's a video of mine with more tips about that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKOWd4qVgamdbrc cost: I understand that going to the dentist is not cheap. And I agree that it is unfair. But I'm unfortunately not someone who can change how insurance companies & economics work together in creating prices in the dental industry. But, I am someone who can give you advice on places to find affordable (and sometimes even free) dental work -- so here's my "affordable dental care" video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXyro4qceq1sgKs thank you all for being here and reading this and being interested in caring for your teeth. and thank you for continuing to be kind in the comments section. peace, love, and teeth!

I've removed shit loads of tartar with a needle, and a knife (carefully) and I've removed like 8 hard pieces within 2-3 months including 2 today I've removed around 15 pieces numerous ways in around a year and my teeth and gums look much better especially with oil pulling (dentist's nightmare) so saying you can't do this at home is misleading, Also I haven't been to a dentist in year's and my teeth are fantastic

Day 4 of flossing last night. No bleeding and I am getting faster at it so it is less of a chore. Gums were a little sore after day 3, so I flossed less aggressively last night, and I don't have any discomfort in my gums today.

Keep it up. I remember when I first start flossing regularly, it took me a few days to figure out how much pressure to use. I found easing the floss between my teeth slowly helped keep me from losing control. If I tried to insert it too fast or too hard, I would slam the floss into my gums and they would start bleeding. Regular flossing and brushing will pay off in the long haul. I'm 40 and still haven't had a cavity. I'm trying to keep that streak going for as long as I can.

I had a pretty good angle and place to hook my fingernail on the chipped tartar. I gave it a few tugs but that remaining tartar was stuck like damn super glue. They have dental scalers that automatically stop working when they hit your gums. I purchased one and I love it. Dentist trips can be scary so learning how to use the scaler and DIY at home can help ease the process and give you a better experience. I haven't been able to afford a Dentist in over 6 years so finally getting a scaler was a way to take care of my teeth in the meantime. Now I have a Dentist appointment coming up and I can't wait. Definitely a Dentist can do a better job but now I feel less nervous of going in because I understand the sensations and what they are doing better.

I can’t say this enough, I’ve had a tooth fall off while eating burger. The permanent molar that came out had excessive tartar buildup and no dentist could clean that properly, so excessive buildup on that particular tooth would be a recurring thing… until last year, a skilled professional dentist is the difference between heathy teeth and one that’s not. One year later that molar still looks unaffected, although I’m definitely due for another cleanup

I'm currently in dental hygiene school, and yes, improper scaling use (like improper pressure and even improper angulations and scaler-to-tooth adaptions) can damage your enamel and your gums. These are razor sharp instruments cutting into the surface of your tooth, after all. We use varying degrees of pressure and instruments to detect calculus, that way we arent just mindlessly scraping every surface of the tooth and causing unnecessary damage, which could cause hypersensitivity. Some bacteria also hide in the open dentinal tubules from this sensitivity, so be careful! Learning to scale patient's teeth reclined is a challenge, doing it on yourself is a colossal task, and I wouldn't risk it

They scoffed at coconut oil pulling, mineralization via diet, and they're beholden to the ADA. Hard pass

My issue where I live is that COVID has made it nearly impossible to get proper dental care efficiently. Due to a job change I switched dentists and can't get in until September! I will have waited 9 months since last seeing a dentist. My poor daughter who's disabled and on state insurance was having to use a dentist an hour away. We don't necessarily need a mechanic to change our oil. And we don't necessarily need a dental assistant (or dentist) to clean our teeth. Get someone who loves you to clean your teeth for you with a scaler. Strange that this woman never mentioned that you could get a spouse or parent to scale your teeth for you. She only mentions that you shouldn't do it at home because you can't get all the right angles on yourself when doing it by yourself. It might not be wise to try all by yourself, but getting someone to do it on you...can save you a lot of money. And they probably won't try to talk you into paying thousands of dollars for things you don't necessarily need. I think a lot of Dentists today are like a lot of health insurance companies today (in it for the money). Years ago, Dentists were part of the local community...just like doctors. Now they are like a HUGE company that doesn't care about people on a personal level. I just don't trust Dentists much these days (just like Insurance companies). It's time we all get better at taking care of ourselves and helping one another. I'm not against Dentistry. I'm against impersonal dentistry that's controlled by bureaucracy and big pharma. They all still pretend fluoride is good for you! Why? Because there's TONS of money in it. Just like a vacs I know of.

I’m glad you said that, I personally don’t trust the healthcare system. Most of the staff(be it nurse, dr., therapist, ear dr, dentist etc) only have you repeat visits that end up draining your pockets and health it self. Some of them don’t believe in getting to the root of said issue. Even if it’s low cost…You end up with a bunch of drugs they deal you in your name. I’ve been trying to be cautious with my own dental health having two cracked teeth. Fluoride is definitely not good for you as it’s in a bunch of other things. To piggy back of your comment I’d say the only reason there would need to be to go to a professional is if there is truly an issue you can’t handle yourself especially if it’s an injury. I’ve heard so many ppl say otherwise mentioning that we need to check in with the dr all the time yet make bull shyt comments like “we are all going to die eventually not like we can control everything we consume whether it’s food, substance, entertainment etc. we are at war right now with a lot these days, no matter what we do those that are controlling shyt is trying to make it hard to maintain a good sense health. Most feel it’s the end all be all but that shouldn’t stop us from trying to find ways to maneuver said issues.

Good advise, I’m 70 years old, started a routine in my early 20’s. Brush, use listerine rinse, floss, rinse again with hydrogen peroxide 50/50 and water, run a gum massaging pick around gum line. Do this Everyday, at least once a day and see your dentist periodically. When I go in for a cleaning, it’s a quick procedure. And , I believe, that unhealthy gums lead to other health problems.

I had a similar experience. My parents didn't believe in going to the dentist unless you were having a problem with your teeth. When I was 20 years old, I decided to look at the back side of my lower incisors after i was done brushing. I was horrified to see what looked like a black rotten spot between my lower bottom two front teeth. I went to the dentist for a cleaning and exam. Fortunately, it was just stained tartar and they were able to remove it. Unfortunately, I didn't learn my lesson from that experience and it took me 7 years to visit the dentist again. By that time, I started getting receding gums around a couple of teeth and tooth sensitivity. It's so much better to keep your teeth and gums healthy than to try to fix them after they are damaged.

How much time do we need to rinse with it? (30s or 1 minute)? 2. Brush teeth then rinse with salt water or (rinse then brush)? 3. Toothpaste has flouride, so if I brush then rinse mouth with salt water, it means I wiped out flouride from toothpaste ???

I use about 6 inches from the end of a 0.012 gauge stainless steel or nickel guitar string (light gauge E string which is not too stiff) to remove tartar from between the front lower incisors (5 spaces). it is necessary to poke the string between the teeth then grab it as you would dental floss and scrub the sides of these teeth. Do an X pattern to get slightly more around the corners of each tooth. I brush after each time I eat and floss once per day but tartar still builds up on the teeth mentioned and only on those teeth. I rather doubt if I'm unique in this respect, so your teeth will likely have to be descaled about once per week. The round string is not damaging to the teeth as a sharp dental tool is. I am over eighty years of age with a full complement of 32 of my own natural teeth. I haven't had my teeth professionally cleaned in over 30 years. My dentist has remarked to his assistant to look at my dental hygene. I would be embarassed if I were told that my teeth required cleaning. Further, use counts, seconds, to make sure that the appropriate amount of time is spent on brushing each area of your denticles. These individual areas are inside lower right, inside lower left, inside front, etc. Each area gets 10 to 15 seconds. Plaque has a tendency to cling to lower insides, so make sure to add a few more seconds to these areas. If, later, you find that some plaque remains, use your fingernail in a scraping mode to remove it. I use nothing but baking soda as a dentifrice.

Dentists are not interested in cleanings/scalings, they want the big money so will subject you to X-rays to no end and interpret the slightest gray appearance as candidate for drilling/filling, or something more invasive, expensive. I avoid dentists and have learned by many online videos how to do regular cleanings/scalings at home using a kit from Amazon (actually two different brand kits). I don't do all teeth at once just two to four per month and that has been the sweet spot for super clean teeth. No worries of long term effects of X-rays too!

Can you explain the difference between what a "reputable scaler" and a "non reputable scaler" are? Metal is metal, and if the material of construction and shape are correct than it doesn't matter where it came from. 316L steel is biomedical grade, but unless you are implanting it into your body then regular 316 stainless steel should be fine. Is there something else special about them? While I will certainly not argue any of your other points your trust in my sourcing ability is not a valid point.

I gotta agree that its so much more costlier than paying for regular cleaning once every 6 months... which would have cost me just over a 100 bucks, now costs me 12 times the amount to do deep cleaning, not including the X rays needed to check for bone loss and consults. Just stick to regular check up folks and ofcourse dedicate time to daily brushing or atleast using some mouth wash that helps against plaque buildup or bacteria.

I,m 68, l have all my teeth, and l have a few fillings from years ago. I brush my teeth 3 times a day, after each meal. If l drink something inbetween......l swill immediately after drinking. So food and liquids: is not on my teeth for more than 5 minutes after each meal, then as mentioned: l clean them. BUT, when l have my yearly checkup: my dentist always finds a bit of tarter on my bottom lower teeth.....even though as mentioned, l clean them straight after meals. I read that in some cases this can be caused by a substance called l think: urea in your saliva.....and that the lower teeth, are continuously washed by saliva, as there are saliva ducts there, and that could cause it. It is frustrating though, when you brush after each meal, swill immediately if you drink between meals, use floss, mouthwash etc, and toothpaste with baking soda in. It's not a lot of tarter.....but l would rather there was non.

That’s why I remove it myself from time to time with my dental tools but it’s not recommended to do that. It’s always the bottom front teeth. So that’s why it’s important to go to the dentist every 6 months, they can get what regular cleaning can’t. They can also smooth it out which I can’t do myself. If you have shaky hands I would recommend just keeping an eye on it and going to the dentist🙂

@asoftstring5533 l clean them with a medium toothbrush: IMMEDIATELY after a meal. Tarter is caused by food hardening on the teeth, so to prevent that: clean immediately after meals, never let food sit on your teeth all day or night, it calcifies, and turns into tarter.....clean immediately after a meal, you may still have minute amounts, but the vast majority will be gone. Also floss daily to, and use these dental plastic wire things to run between teeth where possible. Soft bristles are alright maybe for the face of the tooth, but the rest of the tooth needs a firmer bristle brush, l found that out the hard way years ago, when l started to get tarter on the inside of my front lower teeth.....that went, when l started using a medium bristle toothbrush....and don,t forget: always change your toothbrush regularly, when the bristles start curling over at the top.

I went to the dentist and to make a long story short I have to pay $12,000 to fix my mouth, which is mainly fillings, repairing a root canal tooth, bone filing in a tooth that is basically not there also plaque and tartar build up and even if I get dental insurance it probably won't cover part of the $12,000 I have to pay to fix my entire mouth. So tbh yes you shouldn't remove tartar at home and since I don't wanna go to Mexico to get a cheaper price, I'd rather do it at home because I can't afford $12,000 and I don't wanna get botched in Mexico so buying a plaque and tartar removal kit is my only option.

Colloidal silver can cause poor absorption of some drugs, such as certain antibiotics and thyroxine (used to treat thyroid deficiency). There is also some evidence that it can cause kidney, liver, or nervous system problems.

I just finished removing mine with a facial needle. Just gargle 1 cup of a warm water with salt and 2 tbsp of white vinegar. Tartar comes off easier compared to when i tried it without the said mixtures of gargle.

Can you tell if a tooth is dead by an xray ?

Yes, if your tooth is dead, on the X-ray, the tooth’s surrounding gums will show up darker on the X-ray.

You’ll usually know if a tooth is dead because you would have had a root Canal on it

They probably can. At the least they can tell somethings wrong. I had a small tiny cavity removed and capped off, and 3 years later a much better dentist did x-rays and it looked foggy, with little cracks in the middle. Turns out cavity wasnt removed fully and went inward. I ended up having a root canal and then a crown over a tiny cavity that wasn't done properly.

Yes you can. I have done it many times already and my dentist has said my teeth looked good afterwards...

now the real question is where is the point where the risk of damage outweighs the risks of leaving it that you HAVE to take action at home, and when you reach this point. what exactly do you do at home to prevent it from from going too poorly.
