I loveee the design! I think the achromatic colours suit him and it’s like it continues the ‘fallen angel’ narrative that he has (white/light grey bright colours) and the wings on the jacket. It would’ve been cool if it had the Kazama emblem on the gauntlets, but it’s like a nod to his OG Tekken 3 design. Love it!

Well first of all, congrats for having been able to ranked his outfits because I'm trying to think of my own ranking as I'm writing this and I can feel the headache coming 😂 But let's try anyway From my most to least favorite : 1. T4 gi (this look's just perfect for him. I love the duality of the colors, with one side black and the other white, and the open vest) 2. T3 biker outfit (I actually lile the yellow, makes all the details stand out more imo) 3. T4 hoodie (this outfit grew on me, I quite hated it when I first saw it. Tbh I quite hated T4 Jin in general with his new moveset and all lol) 4. T3 school uniform (I love this outfit too much to not mention it. It suits him so well and I like how young it makes him look. Like the kid he still pretty much was) 5. T8 biker look (Not much to say about it if only that I like how it plays with different shades of black/grey/white, almost like a reflection of his personality. 6. T5 gi (quite the classic look but shirtless, which is always a bonus xD) 7. T7 (I completely agree with you. Those gauntlets are ugly and look more like they're part of Iron Man's armor 😂 I'm usually a fan of leather but here it just doesn't work. It looks weird and the hood makes it even worse 😫)
@fragmentedpixels Жыл бұрын
I still don’t know how I did this ranking- it was hard hahah Thanks for the ranking! Yeah, his T7 fit was… certainly a choice. IDK what they were going for with that one 🥴 The karate gi is so iconic- and I think I’m biased about both Tekken 4 looks ‘cause that game is one of my favs in regards to character design and telling a story. I low-key miss his T3 move set-I was able to do one of his 10 hit combos, oh well😭 And Jin’s T5 look, I like that too; a bit of eye candy there, ya know? 😆 Again, this was just hard ‘cause he’s mostly had good designs… and one of my fav characters.

Personally, my favourite Jin look was the Tekken 8 one because I thought that it was so well thought of! He's a biker (and I admit that I have a weakness for biker/bad boy looking men, hehe) and the look really shows it with the leather, and that jacket with the devil wings design is FIRE!!! Seriously, I want one for myself! ❤🔥 His Tekken 4 look - absolutely iconic, yes, I couldn't wait to buy it in the Tekken Shop once they announced it. Maybe the blue/purple hues were an attempt to show him trying to separate himself from who he was before (as blue is one of the colors that contrasts the red he was associated with in Tekken 3 for his debut), so I like it even more because of it. AND THE HOODIE IS EVERYTHING FOR JIN! I also love his black and white karate outfit from Tekken 4 because it references the duality of his devil gene and his kind-hearted nature that is the result of his mother's loving upbringing - and also, his ending when he flees Hon Maru and leaves a single white feather on the floor of the temple WHAT A TEASER! In the end - Jin's Tekken 7 outfit was by far the worst - I mean, why the all-leather look directly on top of his naked body, I mean the sweating must be insane! The western style belt and the jacket being tucked in and those over the top gauntlets... I mean come on! xD And somehow I feel like all characters in Tekken 7 looked sort of ugly compared to the other games? I don't know, what do you think? Sorry for the long comment, but I'm super invested! xD
@fragmentedpixels4 ай бұрын
Heheh, long comments are fine by me! Yeah, his Tekken 8 look is great! I agree, and I love how the colour theory and even symbolism tells a bit of a story there. It looks like they intentionally made white and grey the monochromatic colours (among the red accent) to possibly show that evolution of the character. As if he’s going into the lightness. And the wing decal, ofc. But overall I’m glad to see motorbiker Jin again because I think some people forget that he’s into motorbikes and stuff. Pretty cool! I loveeeee his Tekken 4 outfit. Now you mention how they used those colours instead of the usual red that he wears; that’s actually a great point! I didn’t think of that, actually. Definitely adds another layer onto the disassociation with his past life! The gi is also great because it also nods to his Devil gene curse and the references to lightning on the trousers (I believe that’s what those are?) is spot on! I also agree on the colour symbolism, too. His T4 ending is the icing on the cake. LOOOOL, I 100% agree on the Tekken 7 look. It’s soooo bad and just… awkward! It makes more sense seeing that this was a commissioned design from a manga artist (can’t remember the name) that it has this veryyyy anime design. Not to say that Tekken was never anime, but it just looks so off in this game compared to previous instalments. The jacket tucked into the belt was the last straw for me, too! It looks so uncomfortable to wear. 😭

Though he has Mishima gauntlets, the overall white and the wings of the Tekken 8 outfit is what is meant to represent his Kazama side - the white in his Tekken 5 gi and both Tekken 4 outfits were mean to represent his Kazama lineage, this light side of purity to him so 8's hearkens back to that. On that though, I like to think that the gold flames were more to represent this kind of 'purification' theme, burning the impurities within oneself, and the purple in his hoodie was to represent an impure blood, his turmoil and self-doubt and self-hatred. There is a lot of allusion to this theme of 'purification' in Tekken 4 and 5, I find. Yes, I do agree that the Tekken 3 design though iconic, was overused past a point where it still has thematic relevance anymore. The nihilistic Tekken 6 Jin dressed like that felt very out of place.
@fragmentedpixels2 ай бұрын
I love your analysis. As much as some may think the outfit belongs in Final Fantasy (hard disagree, lol), his T8 look is his best design in recent years. I do love the flame motif Jin has had, however a change was definitely needed. I also agree and I like how the outfit also references his position as a character and being ‘purified’. The use of greys, blacks, whites and that accent colour of red on the T8 look is a nice colour palette change, same thing with what we saw in Tekken 4 hoodie as Jin isn’t really known for those colours. Works very well! I also like they reference his motorbiker hobby as well, since Jin initially had this youthful energy to him and there’s definitely a scene for that in Japan (note the P2 T3 look). Rambling aside, I just love how those designs you mentioned reflect his Kazama heritage-they really like their monochromatic colours.
@zombies_junkyard2 ай бұрын
@@fragmentedpixels I can't unsee that FF comparison lmao. I think that might have to do with a bit of the visual noisiness with some of the character designs in Tekken 8, probably due to wanting to maximise as much of the detail that is possible due to the higher fidelity which, although results in Jin's and others' otherwise great designs can, again, also make them feel a bit too visually noisy, like there's too much going on. This is a small criticism I've noticed being expressed, making people wish for the simplicity of older designs. That aside, to expand a bit on the white motif for Kazama lineage, I wanted to add that the monochromatic, black vs white designs for Jin during that PS2 era was clearly meant to represent his general duality and inner conflict. By contrast, the grays in his T8 may represent an acceptance of that duality. If you're curious about how this may tie to Tekken 4's themes and story, I recommend checking out Gizou Gitai's essay of the game. Besides baberuthless (obviously), your channel reminds me quite a bit of his. Huh. I actually never thought of his T4 hoodie being a reference to him being into motorcycles like other designs. The whole tracksuit thing going on made me think of it more as something he wears when he's training, like when he has to go outside for a jog or something, since he was learning an entirely new fighting style and all (being Kyokushin, even the choice to flee to Australia may have been a reference to them housing a prolific Kyokushin dojo during those days) Yes, there was that youthfulness to Jin back in Tekken 3 that matched his much brighter red, energetic design. Hell, I'd even say this is evident in the difference between Chiba Isshin's voice performances of him in Tekken 3 versus onwards.
@fragmentedpixels2 ай бұрын
Come to think of it… I see what they mean with the visual noise 😭 Yeah, that aspect of Jin’s character design is definitely a callback to the duality/yin-yang element seen with the Kazama clan (as seen with his Tekken 4 gi) and then to see that acceptance (and similar colours) brings it full circle. There’s also that duality when it comes to both the Kazama and Mishima clans as well. Actually, in regard to the motorbiker flair we have in T8, I was actually referring to his Tekken 3 player 2 motorbiker outfit-not the Tekken 4 hoodie. However, the T4 hoodie would look really cool if he were to drive in it; it wouldn’t be as practical but it would add in that cool factor. But yeah, his T4 hoodie was his outfit of rebellion, in a way since he wanted no affiliation with his other family (and just having all that PTSD, smh). Then when add all of those events, that definitely reflected the vocal direction has has since then. How Isshin Chiba does it-I’ll never know. Hm, I’ll check out those videos.
@zombies_junkyard2 ай бұрын
@@fragmentedpixels Ohhh my bad on misunderstanding. Yeah I can see how his new design calls back to his old biker outfit. Been binging your videos for a bit today so I'll check that collab out. Your channel is quite refreshing. It's nice to see someone talk about aspects of fighting games and games in general, especially those of yore, in terms of things related to art direction, character designs, music, atmosphere and the like - things that on the whole, add to the experience and are just as important as gameplay, or rather, are interlinked with it - which aren't as appreciated by fans much. I feel like content on fighting games emphasises the competitive side a bit too much. I feel like the emphasis on competitive-minded play, though draws attention to basic elements which should be standardised (crossplay, balance, better online, good training modes, etc.), neglects a lot of what actually makes these games fun and impactful. Things like story, themes/narrative, single-player, the aforementioned and even aspects of the core gameplay mechanics as a game in general, in-depth, outside of the competitive space (which I only see talked about by Gizou Gitai and The Electric Underground right now) are just as important and what actually makes these games memorable and worth replaying even when sequels come out and the playerbase diminishes. So, it's pretty awesome and exciting seeing a channel like yours that sheds light on and is enthusiastic about that. Also, your analysis on win quotes and outros had me thinking you were actually studying Japanese lol. Even as someone who's studying it myself, your work is quite impressive.
@fragmentedpixels2 ай бұрын
Thanks so much, I’m glad you find my videos intriguing and insightful. The reason I even created the channel was to discuss those creative elements that are often not talked about when it comes to video games (and as a creative outlet as well). Merging pop culture, music, games and the like: I just thought: why not? I love all those things. There’s also a gap there, as you mentioned. I agree. I’ve always played games for fun and I'm an absolute causal, but I’ve always been into the artsy side of them anyway since there are so many layers that go into it. With fighting games, I think there’s that element of hostility about casual players by some… but funnily enough, that is most of the audience of these games, lol. I'm uninterested in that immaturity from some, though. Thanks again! It does seem that way, but I am familiar with Japanese media. I’d say I’m only OK with phonetically pronouncing the language. I made some embarrassing errors on the Devil Jin one, but I’m definitely improving in doing these character quotes videos-I realised very quickly that it’s not always a 1 person effort! 😅

@@loligerpoper5998haha, tell me about it 😭 his Tekken 3 P2 (motorbiker outfit) gauntlets would’ve been a better starting point for them from a design perspective, in my opinion. They could’ve reinvented those ones for this design.

after being agree with you all the way i truly didn't get how did you choose that flame bottom AND flame top design as the best lol. how about flame hat too?

a flame hat would go crazy, can’t lie LOL but in all seriousness, I like the overall look 😆 and I’m kind of biased, ‘cause T4 was my first game and I think the look works. It’s very 2000s, but I love it!
