The skeleton horse might be a reference to some other monsters in myth, not just yokai. For example, the Nucklaeve (probably misspelled that) which is a man horse monster that drags people to a cold watery grave. Another i can think of is Kosheii from Slavic myth. He's supposed to ride a skeletal steed after all.

Best explication i can think of for why zoro waited that long to one shot lucci is that Oda wanted Zoro finishing move to be in the 1110 chapter since zoro bounty is 1 111. Oda clearly has wanted Zoro to back of a little before the chapter 1111 came so that’s why he ended that fight so quick in chapter 1110 Oda could have made Zoro beat Lucci right away which would have been better showcase and then we could have gotten all the flashbacks and other events meanwhile Zoro is lost and Jinbei has to look for him. I actually think the gorosei are not equal. Each has a specialization. Thats why Saturn seemed a bit ubderwhelming as a fighter. It seems Topman is the muscle, V. Nusjuro is the speed and skill, Mars is the wings, Ju Peter is the sneak attack and Saturn is the trap...obviously each has other special abilities

This is hands down one of the best arcs Egghead just keeps on popping off 🔥🔥 Zoro needing that Sanji banter to help motivate him, Lucci better think of retirement before he returns to the world government (Is it a surprise after Black history month finishes Zoro hits the nail on the coffin) I hope the Giants don't get used as a plot device for the Gorosei. I also loved the reunion with Luffy I love the designs for the Gorosei they look like absolute monsters hands down one of the best double spreads in the series

My thoughts on the Sand Worm fitting in with the rest of the mythical yokai is that he's based on the Gobi Desert Death Worm. It's an allegedly real but never really documented local legend of this massive sand worm that hides and hunts under the dunes looking to drag down anything it finds.

The juxtposition between the Sun and Dark being shown on that double page spread is just beautiful. Its the stark contrast between the light hearted goofy protagonist Monkey D. Luffy in Nika form and these demon like yokai from Hell. Brilliant scene oda and probably one of his best drawings to date.
