Its not just British and American politicians who were spied on. The same happened for Danish politicians that were critical of China.

Um. And Chinese ones? Obviously folks need to take precautions against being spied on. I think we make fools of ourselves, though, if we try to get all holy-holy about spies doing their jobs.

That's not how it works. The consumer gets stuck paying the tax increase every time. But nice try. Keep pondering.😊

Wait. That might make the merchandise priced to consider it competitive to manufacture it here in America even with the wages paid. Good thinking!😊

It isn't economically feasible to shock and ruin our consumers and no government would survive the aftermath of such a policy.

It's always a pleasure to hear Roland Oliphant on your podcasts, as he is much more knowledgable and informative on the Caucasus and Central Asia than James Kilner, your designated correspondent for the region.

We as the west need to take back manufacturing. We need to become self sustainable. We have the people we have the resources we have the technolog we really dont need China. Not as much as they need us. China's economy would collapse if we changed our dependence on them.

I'm a bit surprised that demographics as probably the most important factor in how the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan eventually played out is left out. While Armenia's population is not only a quarter the size of Azerbaijan's population it is also in sharp decline, Azerbaijan's population on the other hand is still rising. I'm not a friend of culturalist explanations when it comes to conflicts between Muslim and Christian populations, however the comparatively delayed (!) transition to a lower birthrate among Muslim populations has been shaking up power structures and hence fulling conflicts world wide - from conflicts within the middle East, most prominently the war in Libanon, to conflicts at the border lands between Islam and (post)Christianity like in ex-Yugoslavia and the Caucasus. However, instead of looking out for a general Christian-Muslim conflict, one could rather look into unequally distributed birth rates world wide and and to what degree they have played a role in shaking up power structures - especially wherever the rule of old elites has been challenged - from the civil wars in Sierra Leone and Liberia in the 90s to the rise of Islamism within Muslim countries.

I love the episode, but Ms Turner is almost impossible to understand. It's a shame because she has brilliant things to say, but her accent is peculiar and heavy. She has very poor pronounciation . She really needs voice training. At the very least she needs to slow down her speech and pronounce her words more precisely.
