This is a really interesting comparison and after your experiences, we know just how durable this lens can be! I would love to buy “Newton” an Ethos at Christmas for deep sky viewing, but as you say, it is a very expensive eyepiece, so I will have to save up! Thanks as always, for your well informed comparison, it’s good to know what you can expect from an item before investing so much money! PS..Love your Fox mug! I’m wondering if you like foxes too, or is this because Tsula is cherokee for fox? Thanks for staying up so late to give us this really helpful information your hard work is very much appreciated 🤗🌙✨

Hi Lynn: Thanks. Well, I hope Newton gets what he wants at Christmas. Not only because Tsula is fox in Cherokee but also because I love foxes that friends and family always give me fox themed gifts for my birthday and Christmas. This adorable fox comes around my meadow in Montana very often. He/she loves to catch mice in the meadow. So that little fox is very welcome any time. Good morning! Another great video. No question that Televue makes great products. Aside from outstanding views they are extremely well crafted and durable. I like the Baader products too. And I must admit I own quite a few Meade 4000 series Plossls. I am mostly a planet/ Moon observer. My go to eyepiece is a Televue 8-24 zoom I purchased in the 90’s. A few years ago I also purchased a Baader 8-24 zoom to fit a spotting scope. But haven’t really had much opportunity to do a side by side due to busy schedules and somewhat waning enthusiasm to stay up late. Thanks again for putting together a very well done video. Clear skies Chris

Hi Chris: Good to hear from you. I have always been afraid to try a zoom eyepiece. Years ago I had a spotting scope that had a zoom eyepiece that was terrible and ever since then I just had this aversion to them. Someone else told me that I should get a zoom lens and that they are much better now.

Have you ever considered buying, borrowing, or renting a PVS-14 night vision device for evaluation? I would love to see your trademark in-depth, perspicacious analysis of this very interesting device. They are expensive, $3,000-$4,000, but a lot of astronomical equipment is pricey. Hello, Tsula! I presume your conclusion regarding planetary observations here should be marked with an asterisk that there is no much benefit from Ethos in this case only if your’re observing with go-to or some other kind of tracking mount. Otherwise huge apparent FOV makes a difference not requiring constant RA adjustments. But it’s probably save to assume that an observer considering such an expensive eyepiece is not limited by manual-tracking-only capabilities of her or his scope’s mount 😎🤗

Perhaps a more appropriate comparison would be the view you get of an object when you can just fit the whole object in the field of view. A wider FOV eyepiece can be used at a higher magnification and still see the whole object. Also, the differences between eyepiece designs is often more pronounced when you're using shorter focal length telescopes. I would be very interested to see you repeat your test with a faster scope (F4 to F5) and describe the difference in what you can see on objects that fill the FOV between the 10mm Ethos and a 20 mm Ortho or Plössl. I didn't want to spend the money on Ethos eyepieces so I bought a Tele Vue DeLite to try (62 degree FOV vs. 100 for the Ethos) The views were significantly better than my other eyepieces gave on objects that filled the view. It was enough of an improvement that I gave all of my other eyepieces away and replaced them with a set of DeLite eyepieces. I imagine the comparison would be even more favorable for Delos or Ethos eyepieces.
