Groucho is one of the few heroes I've ever had in my life who has never let me down. This was a great episode and I'm very grateful I got to see it.

This was a lot of money back then, and Groucho was quite generous with bending the rules in favor of the guest. Nice!

Nobody is safe from Groucho. He has those eyes of performers who can get too close to you, even scare you, from their vantage point upon the stage.

I only saw a small snippet of this: the part with Fabian Forte, because some girl on "You Bet Your Life" had been smitten with him. And if this was an example of what the new show was like, I can see why it failed. Just identifying a picture by showing it for a split-second was not nearly as interesting as having a couple answer questions about some category they had chosen--even though it has been said that Groucho's comic chit-chat with the contestants was the part of the show that people really tuned in for.

After so many episodes of You Bet Your Life ,this is hard to get accustomed to,but it is a very interesting bit of history.I find it interesting that Joy Harmon is in the Fenneman role ,after her in Village Of The Giants.
@ahcapella2 жыл бұрын
As I understand it, Joy Harmon was “discovered” by Groucho Marx on an episode of the last season (1960-61) of _You Bet Your Life_ ( which had actually been renamed _The Groucho Show_ ), after which he hired her for _Tell It To Groucho._ She wouldn’t appear in _Village Of the Giants_ until 1965.

Groucho was my Dad's favorite, back when the shows were live/current. And, I will admit, I'm loving watching and laughing with these videos. He was never at a loss for a comeback. Did Groucho ever write for any comics? Thanks.

Fabian was always one of the handsomest guys around back in the day. His voice and records were from hunger ... I haven't heard of him since he stopped touring with Bobby Rydell and someone else as 'The Boys From Bandstand'?

This isn’t quite YBYL. A lot of the people they show aren’t exactly well known figures in this day and age. At least on the quiz, most of the questions are still relevant today.

What happened? Why was you Bet Your Life canceled and then they replaced by almost the same thing? Why would they replace a classic that was great to a similar show? The new one is good too but it doesn’t make sense to stop the old one. Whoever this Groucho guy is he’s got a great sense of humor and maybe has enough talent to do other things in comedy. Why did they cancel this show too?

@@rickrick5041 Groucho Marx was a big comedian from the 1920s-1930s (if you google him you'll see the iconic mustache and glasses!). I looked it up and apparently Groucho was also the host for the original run of You Bet Your Life. By the 1960's the show was declining in ratings, so it got cancelled. I'm thinking that this new version was an attempt to reformat the old show so more people would check it out.
