Looks good - I’ll try this one next. Just a tip I learnt for peeling turmeric (and ginger!) if anyone is interested - use a teaspoon to remove the peel. It’s quicker than a peeler and removes only the peel, leaving all the tumeric behind ☺️

In parts of the world where it snows, I reccomend growing rhubarb and using rhubarb juice. Rhubarb is perennial (rhubarb lives for many years), and rhubarb does not require any work on your part after planting it except water once per week. Rhubarb juice is an excellent substitute for lemon juice in soap. Put rhubarb in the blender with water. Pour the rhubarb puree into a bowl and let the puree sit overnight. During the night, acid will leech out of the puree into the water. Pour the mushy rhubarb though a colander sieve strainer the new day. If you so desire, use the rhubarb infused water instead of lemon.

I love how you experiment with new natural products Loved the glossy red when poured into the mould, then the wait to see the colour once cut, although it looked perfect it was a wee bit of a disappointment to see the colour change, but that is part of the thrill in making new soap. Thank you and I hope your summer is going well too.

This soap looks great. I actually stopped using soap , installed a shower filter and my skin has never felt so clean and good. I do wash with hot water and use the towel to dry off and scrub after the shower but my skin doesn’t smell. If I start to smell under arms maybe every three weeks I use my all natural deodorant dipped n bentonite clay once and immediate the smell is gone. My recent find is the use of diy soap nuts shampoo and it’s amazing .

I tried the turmeric-infused oil in my recipe ( without lemons) it failed in cold process but turned out amazing with hot process. I don't know why my CP always fail.lol. however, after I watched your video doing a HP, my HP soaps are so smooth no one could tell it was cooked. So thank you.

Amazing colours going on in your recipe, really . And whilst there was a big colour change from the deep deep red, I really like the outcome, the orangey terracotta soap you ending up with. The outcome of Soap is a surprise of nature isn’t it? One question - so you didn’t add any critic acid to the Lye or the oils, you made use of the citric acid naturally found in the lemons, is that right? And you just added the extra NaOH to compensate? And was it the NaOH that turned the lemon juice red as the ice melted? Thank you.

Hello Tellervo, I have a great confusion, which sodium hydroxide is used for soap making, lab grade or commercial grade? Because there is a huge cost difference in both, someone told me that commercial ones are for making washing soaps but that's the affordable one, please help me with this, thank you in advance ❤️
@xuenimo
@xuenimo 2 жыл бұрын
I think the commercial grade is fine. The lab grade is usually for research only with a high purity and same with all other materials for scientific research, they are ridiculously expensive! I use commercial grade NaOH for my soap and it turns out to be perfect. I heard that there are food grade NaOH as well. You may also try those ones if it is easily accessible from your end.

All lab grade chems are usually 99.9% or so purity, and usually marked for lab use only. As long as the company can provide the CofA(Certificate of Analysis, that lists the purity of the lye and impurities) you can decided if the lye is safe and to adjust for the purity. Lye is calculated based on pure lye per gram of oil.

Waiting to hear from you 😊.

Honest question: Why do you have use protective gear to apply lye to the soap but then use the soap directly on the skin?
@saucyonePR
@saucyonePR 2 жыл бұрын
Lye by itself is extremely toxic to skin etc, but when mixed with oils and everything at right temperature, the chemical composition of lye changes completely making it safe for skin. This is called saponification. As long as you have the right amount for everything, it will be completely safe to use.

Because the solution will become extremely HOT when mixing with the lye. I have made my soap also but not with this recipe..
