I just moved to Italy with my partner and kids and i'm self studying italian. This channel has been very helpful, thank you. One remark, my partner and the whole family says that the after the half hour way that you are teaching is not correct. Just say the number if it's 35, 40, 50. It's a big country so maybe it's not the way they do it in the north or something. They are from Bergamo.

Grazie! I haven’t reviewed this video in a while but I’m pretty sure I included a note about being able just say the number of minutes (much like we do in English). Saying meno 25 for :35 after seems a little strange. Meno dieci is certainly used, as is meno un quarto.

Great video. Students should also know that .15 and .30 can be expresses with a regular number e quindici, e trenta. You misspelled 17 in one of your examples, since it should be written with a double s (diciassette). Keep up the great work. I use your videos all the time in my classes.

To my understanding, "Sono le" could be interchanged with "it is" when answering "what is the time?". So if I was asked the time in italian, is it normal for people to always add "sono le" in front of their answer, or can I just say the number? I dont know if it would matter. Anyways, thanks for the videos, they help a lot :)

I'm a bit confused, when you were approximating 10:35, how is it sono quasi le dieci e mezza? Doesn't mezza mean half? So doesn't that statement mean it's almost 10:30? When it's actually twenty five to eleven?

You’d probably just say ‘sono le dieci e trentacinque’. I tend to round to the nearest five minute increment when telling time. If you add ‘quasi’ it just adds that it is almost a certain time.

I'm English and we have 24 hour clocks- do you guys In USA not know how to read 24 hour clocks? I just assumed every country had them

You hardly ever see a 24 hour clock in the USA. It's talked about in terms of military time, but not in everyday life. I even remember having math(s) lessons in elementary school where we had to convert 24 hour clocks to 12 clocks -- presumably so we wouldn't be totally clueless in other countries ;)

+KASAL RIVERA no, "sono le nove meno un quarto" pretty much means "nine o'clock minus a quarter hour" that would be 8:45 the answer given in the video is correct. "sono le dieci meno un quarto" is like 10 o'clock minus a quarter hour which would be 9:45 :)
