You should review TarHeelAnts nests like the Mini Hearth. These guys might do well in one.

What’s up with these THA nests? They look a bit cheap to be honest (they aren’t cheap, especially if you need to ship to the EU). Not sure why a lot of people say these are the best but I am sure there is a lot of truth there 😁
@MinigunL53 жыл бұрын
@@peternl3440 They are usually made with a unique material they deem type III(no one knows exactly what it is made of but it works very well). Even Tetramorium struggle to chew through it. They also use a water tower with a steel mesh on top. It is excellent for humidity and reduced molding of trash in the nest because you don't actually hydrate the nest. Also, the glass is stuck on with magnets so it can be cleaned easily. Even with the glass secured like that, tiny ants like Solenopsis molesta have still be housed there with no problem. The price is not too bad when you consider that each one is handmade with a lot of work, like securing the outworld and painting. His Mini Hearth is one of the most popular nests for ant-keepers in North America. Basically, every commonly kept species will do well in a THA nest. Unfortunately, the shipping to places outside of NA is expensive so they're not as popular outside the US. The only downside is that the outworlds on many of the nests are a bit small but in the end, it's not much of a problem. Personally have my Camponotus novaeboracensis house in one and they are doing great(they are hibernating rn tho). I liked it so much that I got another of their deals and got the 5 for $125 Mini Hearth. deal and upgraded one to XL. Once my founding queens and small colonies start growing next year I will probably fill them all. I hope this gave you some insight one why THA nests are some of the best nests on the market.

@@MinigunL5 thank you for your in depth answer! I really appreciate it. I might just have to order one and see for myself. I understand there is a lot of work in them. Pricing is not that bad, but add shipping and customs and the price probably doubles. Maybe @robjsants can do a review, would be interesting to hear his opinion!

I have plagiolepis pygmaea and they were getting out of the same nest you use. These AntKit products are not intented for small ants. I contacted them about it and they were very helpful and offered a custom nest. But, that glue problem worries me though! I never thought about that. What glue did you use to fix it?
