Further to last month's temps lié par terre, we increasing the level of difficulty. To join my classes or to learn more go to holisticballet...
Although, I was trained in East Berlin in the Vaganova system, I am not a Vaganova teacher and may have forgotten some details. However, I still think it is hugely beneficial to practise some of the exercises. I recommend you compare with other videos.

Not sure why I asked about relevé today! I had already watched your excellent video - and OF COURSE there is no relevé. I think it was because of wobbling so much, my brain said I must be on demi pointe. I can see now the wobble is down to not having enough strength and flexibility to hold the steps. That's ok, I can work on both with help from the video. Would I be wise to keep everything (apart from the arms) small? Low - but still off the ground.

Maybe it's a bit like having a phobia: people with a spider phobia see spiders everywhere. :) Yes, as I also mention in this video, and today in class, keep the legs at a comfortable height. Enjoy this month!

is there a technical reason why standing leg is sometimes bent (developpe) and straight (releve lent)?
@HolisticBallet

There are several reasons, Ani. I hope you are not asking because you noticed my bent knees in this video 🙏 The main reason is being too concerned with the height of the gesture leg. Lack of flexibility in the lower back and/or hamstrings will bend the standing leg if the gesture leg is lifted too high. Hence, you hear me say in class to keep both legs equally active. One reaches away, and the other needs to lengthen towards the floor. The same applies in grand battement. Does this answer your question?

@@HolisticBallet sort of. Much easier to control leg- lift (either side or front) with standing leg bent. Leg coming up from the ground is generally more difficult to control or gain height on straight standing leg. Super frustrating, but looking forward to month of practice practice....

@@anibrown5374 I understand what you are talking about now! You mean why développé in plié is easier than with a straight leg. By 'bent knee' I thoughts you talked about the unintentional disengagement of the knee. I'd say the reason is similar, any tightness in the backline is relaxed so the gesture leg can lift higher. The pelvis has more freedom for micromovements to follow the direction of the développé, and in plié, the thigh bones can sink better into the hip sockets. Your centre of gravity is also lowered.

and if you are talking about relevé lent and développé: it's a matter of the lever, the longer the heavier. It'd be the same as lifting something with extended arms vs. bent arms.

Что она делает руками на переходе андедан, какая-то современная интерпретация? Впервые такое вижу. Не понравилось. По схеме неверно, учебник стоит выкинуть.
