Hard to believe this song only peaked at #8 in the US mainstream billboard charts. In Canada and the UK it peaked in the 40s! Elvis Costello's vocals to start the second verse could not have brought the song down that far! I think for the more discerning listeners this song is a time piece for its early 80s period. I remember it back from its day and it has never lost its touch. Paul Carrack's delivery and sound here are fantastic. Nice work here from Pretzel as well!

When I first heard this song, I thought it was Steve Winwood or Traffic. It has that type of melodramatic urban rhythm and a sentimental tone to it.
