Last season United overperformed xG this season they're underperforming, but over time it evens out. If this was his first season then sure, don't sack him based on what could be deemed 'unlucky' results based on the underlying numbers. However this was his 3rd season, and over that time United had a GD of +11, which is just horrendous. United have been consistently poor and showing no signs of improvement. Finally if you want to talk about xG and underlying numbers, try taking a look at the numbers from last season. United were extremely lucky to finish 8th, despite it being our worst finish in recent times...

Should be mentioned that INEOS didn’t sit down with Ten Hag and offer him a new contract. They just triggered a pre existing 1 year option in his contract, that was negotiated by the previous hierarchy that are now long gone. He was on the same terms, had the same power etc. Managers don’t really go into the last year of their contracts so something had to be done
