Splendid video, bravo. I thought your explanation of why a drummer might not be the best at drumming, but is in a song that transcends technical skill, was brilliant. I'm hoping a reasonable restating is "excellence is a judgement that can take time and always involves other people's judgement". This is what folk who live only on social media, and the post modernist 70s French intellectuals, lose/lost sight of; we live in a world with other people who may not agree with us, yet still may need our help and respect.

Andy, you are special! I must say as an American, the British has a way of taking "American" things (not just music) and putting a spin on them which I find more to my liking. When the opposite happens, something gets lost and fails most of the time. It might be the English aestetic...

Double dog dittos for The Beach Boys and The Velvet Underground. I'm 73. I was there when these bands were current. I bought my first drum set in 1965. Helped form a really bad band in1966. Am from Detroit. Got to know people from The Amboy Dukes, Scott Richard Case (SRC), The Frost, The Underdogs. You would think somewhere I'd have run into The Velvet Underground. Nope. And nobody had any interest in The Beach Boys and that includes "Pet Sounds". But the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Byrds (their first album changed my life at age 13), The Animals. They were kings. Then came Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and all the dynamite garage bands with songs that made you just want to go out and try to find a girl. The Rationals doing "Respect" was transcendent. (That rhythm guitar - you could almost eat it it was so good). Richard and the Young Lions doing "Open Up Your Door", Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels doing "Too Many Fish In The Sea", The Wanted "In The Midnight Hour". Seeing Hendrix in '68 for $3.00, Janis Joplin & Big Brother & The Holding Company for $2.50 at The Grande Ballroom, and so many others. Procol Harum, Johnny Winter, Jefferson Airplane, The Who, on and on. Man, what a blessing to grown up when I did.

I like not 'hating' mere opinion. BTW, listening as I write, I never 'got' Velvet Underground and especially with so many great musical alternatives that fit no mold. Iggy Pop And the Stooges live in '70' made more of an impression on me. And an 'all nighter' with King Crimson and Mahavishnu Orchestra on the turntable transformed my listening. In the late seventies i came across Gentle Giant, an acquired taste fir me, which is tasty to this day. And all through it one of my vices in life since 12 years old is pop music.

Andy insists it is for Jazz and Prog enthusiasts - but I am tepid with both genres. On another note, I recently was entertained by Stewart Copeland at Loughborough Town Hall. I was wondering whether Andy had tried to get an interview and if he was successful? On a further note, my wife has a strange devotion to Don Powell. She has had a photo of him in her office for the past ten years. She isn't a Slade fan. But, if you can, could you let him know that he is still a pin-up with women who weren't even born when Merry Xmas Everyone was originally released. Keep up the good work.
