He is Mongolian ethnical minority in China so he is singing a famous Mongolian song. There's so much sadness in this song as he describes such a beautiful scenery and mentions a girl. The chorus simply says "I love you, my home. My home, my heaven". He used to be in heaven but all that is gone now. Pollution and development in his home town. His daughter died of a disease at a tender age of four. Those who know of the back story could feel his pain when he sings this song. The emotions are raw and very powerful. By the way, I am impressed and love your reaction and the ability to appreciate Chinese folk songs and music. I love Mongolian and you should listen to Tibetan songs and music as well. They are so inspiring to hear. They are very soulful to listen and feel.

Actually the verse is quite simple "blue skys,clear lake water,boundless green prairie, running mighty horses,white sheeps,and you my beloved girl i love you,my home,my mother land,my heaven let it shine in it's own way,it won't change a bit through the time" it's not sad at all,but the emotions for the land were all in the voice itself,even without word. i could see a mighty grassland right infront of me thank you so much for reacting this song,i was crying like a child,and it brought up all my love for my motherland too. it's his own song,and almost everyone knows this song in China from 20 years ago.

Lost for words eh ??? This mans performance goes beyond a performance. He truly gets deep into your soul If u want to hear more Mongolian singers. Plse plse plse watch a group called ‘Hanggai’. These men captivate u fr the get go. Their throat singing is beautiful, they play the traditional instruments, like the horse head fiddle There r 7 in the group but they 1/2 (have) payed w/3 in a diff singing contest (Come sing w/me) around 2016. My understanding is he wrote this song for his home town, the mongolian prairie, long time ago. And yes, his home town is heaven, blue sky, green grass and the girl he loved. But after years and years, bad things happened to his home town and himself, and he lost his daughter when she was 10 years old after trying everything he could do to save her. Tangeri said that is the biggest emotional blow to him, and from that time, u can feel this song heaven is not only for the hometown, but also himself and his daughter. Very complex emotions anyway

Tengri (Tengger) has the same effect on everybody who watches and listens to this performance. You are a sensitive soul, I could see, and you appreciate great music, even if it sounds different from what you've been used to. Note how different his vocal technique is. Something that, I learned, is hard to do. I always cry whenever I watch this and one reason is I've been to Mongolia several times and I could visualize and feel what Tengri is missing. Its nomadic lifestyle and open, wide steppes evoke freedom and calmness. Note the times he sings "I love you" (wo ai ni) in Chinese. I appreciate your eclectic taste in music. I have the same taste as you do though you could say, I'm your grandma (by age) already.

I first discover Tengri is from the 2007 version of Genhis Kan 成吉思汗. He sang the theme song 傳說, loosely translated as “the legend”. It totally opens up my eye about the guy. I also start to pay attention about Mongolian culture . That theme song really brings alive the Mongolian people. His singing is totally captivating, no one can sing that song better than him ..... the Mongolian way.
