@TheMitchie21
@TheMitchie21 3 жыл бұрын
Well the first ruling was wrong. Even if the ball was going out the ball kid needs to let it bounce. Because he didn't the point should have been replayed. It's very silly but so are the rules for this. You can't just change your mind because it's silly and the ball was going out anyway. Uphold the rules or not and in this case the umpire and the supervisor failed their jobs. Should he have contested this? Hell no but he did have a point

Damn a lot of ball boy conflict. I know they fucked up a few times here, but honestly I wish the players would be a bit more forgiving. Like okay, your serve was interrupted. That happens. If an audience member interrupts a service motion, do the players ever scream that they want the whole crowd to leave? I thought Blanch's reaction was way too much. The worst mistake was the kid catching the ball going out before it bounced, and I get that Tsitsipas was more upset over a previous time when it happened to him, but I also agree that ball was 100% out and the right call was made. (On the other hand, I thought Tsistsipas had no argument on the late challenge. But hopefully, someday, all line calls will be automatic-like instant hawk eye, which we could really do now-and "late challenge" won't be an issue anymore.)

I used to be a ballkid for smaller tournaments where some good wellknown players would sometime play. From what I remember we had a terrible preparation and no one was trained well (I guess they just assumed we would figure it out ourselves at the age of 13 I guess). This resulted in the players becoming upset and honestly it is the most upsetting thing for a kid to see one of your heroes get upset and yell at you for not doing a job you weren’t even prepared for.

@iohsdfidsassdfsdfsdfasfsdf5587 3 жыл бұрын
@@sophier1552 That's an interesting insight. I can imagine a lot of smaller tournaments having less resources to train the ball kids. Its terrible though cause its the organiser's fault but the kids on the ground get the blame. I'm curious which players you came across?
@ryantraniam
@ryantraniam 2 жыл бұрын
I don't agree that the call was correct. If the opponent hits the ball way out and the other team catches the ball before it lands, then the opponent wins the point even if the ball was going to be 100% out. In this case, the ballboy catches the ball before it lands out, so the correct call should be a replay if we're going to be consistent with the rules.

I actually understand his point there-and I thought he was at least way better than Blanch. I don't think his point was that it was going in; I think his point was that, in a prior game, his opponent had hit a ball that was caught by a ball boy, and the point was replayed. So he was saying there needs to be consistency. That said, I thought he was definitely wrong on the line challenge: it sucks that "challenges" are still a thing when it's not clear why we don't just have computers doing all line calls ... but he absolutely had time to signal a challenge before the point was over-he could have even said "challenge"-and he didn't.

Ok but if a ball boy catches a ball before it bounces surely that’s a let and replay? What if some crazy gust of wind blew the ball in? That’s just really really bad umpiring. Secondly, Tsitsipas returned the service and other guy smashed it so he didn't have anytime to contest. The umpire had to check the mark. Third you cannot give a player warning just because he told you to go back to futures, this is where you belong. He did not swear, he did not shout. Terrible umpiring!

Even from a not very crisp TV perspective ON CLAY....it definitely looked like the umpire checked the wrong mark! To me, the ball landed clearly on the LEFT side of the center tab mark.

As a player i like tsitsipas a lot, but as a person...my gosh, Kyrgios should've called him salty not Rafa. The point wasn't too important, they clearly objected after they lost the point and not after the serve and they act like it was the deciding point of the match. As a top player, like he is, he should know better than making such a scene for nothing.

This is fcking priceless. They are talking about rules all the time but when something like that in Tsitsipas match happend (which is so rare) umpire and meaningless supervisor decide to involve logic in conversation. Also Tsitsipas saying *I* don't deserve to be treated like this lol won one grand slam for start buddy

Why is it a code violation for a player to smash their racket? They’re not hurting anyone and they lose a racket, that’s all.

Complaining about ballboys is the pits, he should be disqualified for utter rudeness & selfishness. The breed of players now in the lower reaches needs education on kids who run around fetching the balls for pin money while they earn a good living.

Am I the only one who agrees with Tsitsipas here? Regardless of whether the ball was going out, the ballboy touched it while it was still in play. If a player touches an active ball in the air, no matter how far out it’s going, they lose the point. So if a ballboy touches an active ball in the air, even if it’s going out, the point should be replayed! It’s the same reason why a player needs to let balls go out and not touch them! The ball has to actually *land* out! Am I wrong about this??

We normally replay the point when a mistake is made that would’ve actually impacted and made a difference in the point? Why would we replay a point when a ball boy catches a ball that was clearly going to bounce two feet out?

The issue for me is that I live in the windiest city in the world, I’ve seen balls move inwards many times from that height and that speed. Obviously these guys don’t play tennis in conditions like this too often but I think it’s the principle that the law of the fame states that the point isn’t over until the balk has bounced a second time
