Medvedev could sound rude to the umpire but that's for the best in my opinion. Tennis is one of these old sports where you still see weird things according to the rules, it really depends on the umpire, on which player involved, etc... Making the umpire question themselves and not having fear about looking like the bad guy will definitely improve the average umpiring level.
@alexphexona75113 жыл бұрын
I agree with badosa in the first scenario. Linette was ready so quickly that’s it’s unfair to penalise Badosa just because her opponent is quick to serve. There was still a full 15 seconds left when the line umpire gave the time violation.
@tonnaa68423 жыл бұрын
Some umpires give some don't its the matter of the umpire, I have seen couple of same situations and sometimes they get code sometimes they get just a warning and sometimes they just forget it...
@Mr.Edd39053 жыл бұрын
But then you could just use this as a tactic to slow down your opponent's rhythm on serve. Getting a towel is hardly essential. She can buy sweatbands. If the server is also going for the towel, then fine. If there is a window of opportunity for players to disadvantage their opponents they will take it. So, the amount of opportunities to do this should be prevented. I realise that serving quickly could also be used as such a tactic too, but there is way too much of this towelling-down and drink-sipping on change-overs and between points, and the server should dictate the pace of the game, not the receiver, as servers have their own rhythm.
@MisterReZ3 жыл бұрын
@@Mr.Edd3905 of course the returner must play at the server speed, but it has to be within reasonable time. Getting a towel is not delaying the game. Even though someone does it every time. The problem is that "within reasonable time" is totally subjective, and some umpires would call the warning and others won't.
@weissweinb3 жыл бұрын
@@MisterReZ the thing is, it’s not about delaying the game, that would be different. it’s about adhering to the server’s speed. and you have to be ready when the server wants to serve even if it’s after 10 seconds. the 25 seconds is a maximum time within which you have to serve but not a time you can rely on as a return player
@user-gu1un7pb7k3 жыл бұрын
@@weissweinb You need to be ready when the server wants to serve *within reasonable time*. Linette took a couple of seconds to get ready for the next serve, even the commentators remarked on how quick she was being between serves. Regarding the situation at 1:15 and early/late calls in general: Why don't they do the same as the linesmen do in football, where they only raise the offside flag after the attack is over? In tennis, line judges should be told to wait and announce "out" only after the ball is hit, so then there's no obstruction or hindrance. Then, in case the call is overturned, it's clear whether to replay the point or not. I mean, waiting two seconds with the call won't harm anyone.

Tennis really has to decide whether you get 20 seconds, or you play at the server's pace. Badosa got a time violation less than 10 seconds after the score was called.

Ostapenko, you made a name for yourself 😂 Congrats. How did you do that? natural talent? Or did you learn that somewhere?

I would’ve thought the chair umpire’s scoring device would also keep track when it’s time for new balls

Why does djokovic get the point after challenging his own serve and Caruso doesn’t? Both serves are called out, returned out/net and challenged by the playing serving. Doesn’t make much sense to me….

Clearly on replay the call was after he had hit the ball, and there was no way he was going to get the ball over the net anyway. So, kudos to the umpire.

seeing the coach gives you motivation, sometimes umpires allow some words from your team box that can motivate you throughout the game

Lord Gulbis and Lady Ostapenko need to play mixed doubles together (Sad they didn't play at the Olympics)
