Injuries, inconsistency, and off-court distractions often held him back from reaching the heights he was capable of. It's easy to say he underachieved, but when you watch him play, you can see just how much raw talent he had.

Obviously Rafa was good this young, but I think of 2010 as when really first saw "Prime" Nadal. The improvements to his serve and backhand were so significant.

Guys, seriously, don't you find the term wasted talent a bit offensive? The topic is not about Tomic or Ernie :)

Come on, Nalbandian never played prime Djokovic. He would have been crushed.
@ericnekli7631Күн бұрын
If they had met more often, both in their primes, of course Djokovic would dominate the head to head. But you can't tell me Nalbandian wouldn't take the occasional win from him, especially outside of GS events.

People belittling Nalbandian's run should understand Nadal and Djokovic were clearly world #2 and #3 at the time. Nadal was #2 for 3 years at the time.
@goderer20572 күн бұрын
Nalbandian at his peak used to just take the racquet out of your hands, ridiculous shotmaking and cat and mouse skills. People literally used to guess where he was going to hit his backhand because he could flick it ANYWHERE

Unfortunately; it's about more than just "talent". I've never understood when people completely dismiss huge parts of Champion-level tennis by saying "IF only he were healthy..." or "If only he were mentally stronger..." It sounds silly. "If only I could get to more shots and hit more winners, I'd be great!" LOL
@sanekabcКүн бұрын
Apples and oranges. Some people can be healthy and never be able to play tennis well. Some people when healthy can beat anyone.
@niceguy1774Күн бұрын
@sanekabc Top level athletes work hard at Staying healthy and taking care of their bodies. Other guys don't. I suspect Alcaraz won't last long with that grinding style and more torque than Nadal, but perhaps he will change styles a bit and adjust.
