what are your thoughts on using forehands? one left and one right
@3HighEnergy4 жыл бұрын
When you teach the 2-hander you make a unit turn and your right heel comes up before you step forward. But when you hit the ball you step back with your left foot as you make the unit turn. You don't mention anything about stepping back in your explanation. Please explain.

I had an unlock on my backhand (I’m a USTA 4.5) yesterday after working with my Slinger and videotaping, thought I would mention in case it helps others. I found that my racquet in the ready position wasn’t fully perpendicular to the back wall, so that my stroke was shortening on the backhand and thus losing significant power and control. It is essential to feeling “ready” that on the backhand you get the racquet back fully or else you don’t have proper leverage when swinging through. This video demonstrates it perfectly but for anyone not advanced, check yourself by videotaping from behind to see where your racquet is positioned before moving forward to the ball strike!

Hi Guys! I'm swapping my backhand from one hand to double handed so I began with TTT videos and studying. Checking big champions backhand I realized the importance of the rear shoulder. As far as I see, for example watching Djokovic slomo, left shoulder seems to me to be the real driver of the whole shot. It is pushed up to the backside fence and, from then on, during the whole movement, its working line remains above the right one helping the coverage of the ball in the topspin. Together with the right distance of elbows from the torso, I believe it is a point to focus on.

Long time tennis player I love this video and one aspect I actually want to incorporate more into my game but something they missed that’s worth noting to begening we who fit already know this Although your power stance get your raquette high and above the ball you must at some point out the raquette below the ball so that you can hit up and generate too spin 2. I recommend thinking about it mentally as if you are using your left hand for power instead of your right, this just always seemed to make it easier for me

As a right handed player--taking the power from the body out of the equation--which arm should be more responsible for driving the power of the shot? Pulling with right hand or pushing with left hand? Or 50/50? My arms always feel weird on my backhand, I think it's because I played baseball for so long and am used to swinging a bat with two hands.

@tarkusi51115 жыл бұрын
Your videos are amazing. I do have an observation on the finish. Several top pros almost never bring their left foot forward much. Djokovic hardly seems to do it at all. Murray brings it forward a bit more than Djokovic, and Nadal will frequently bring his feet almost even, but not all the time. I almost never see any of them bring their left foot in front of their body. Plus, as you mentioned a lot of amateurs tend to do it wrong and end up opening too fast as they pivot on the left foot. What's your take on this? Thanks.
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial5 жыл бұрын
The back foot plays a key role in rotation, if you keep it planted behind your body, you won't be able to fully rotate the hips and shoulders during the contact zone plus recover becomes harder. If you do bring it forwards, to an even position with your front foot, it will allow full rotation of the body plus the recover becomes much easier. Djokovic doesn't do it all the time but study his footwork and you'll see he does it when he has time, he used to do it more often, watch some of his matches from 2011, he used it a lot back then. Agassi was the master of it, he is the player to watch to see how it's done.

Thank you very much for the video. My question is, what is the role of the dominant hand in the double handed backhand? In my opinion it has two main functions: 1. pulls the racket at the beginning of the forward swing to create leverage. 2. helps controlling the direction of the movement of the non-dominant hand (guiding it forward during the follow through). What do you think?
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial6 жыл бұрын
The role differs on the shot you are trying to execute. If you want more spin it would be the top hand that takes over. If you want to flatten out the shot the bottom hand would help guide the racket through the ball more. Thanks for watching. All the best Simon

Thank you, Simon! Very helpful. Your videos are awesome!! I have great difficulties with the follow through of the two handed backhand when playing against deep heavy balls (I play in Spain) and dominant hand at least helps me maintaining the correct structure during the shot. It’s like a “controller” of the non-dominant hand.

Simon, you have excellent videos out there and I find this being one of your best for sure. I'm a one-handed backhand player and I'm trying to help my 8 year old. He lost his two handed backhand a few weeks ago. Since I know zero about two handed, I now I have a bit of knowledge to help him out. Basically, because I'm making him move more, he is losing balance. Hitting the ball our of balance, creates some frustration on him and things just go down hill from there. Again, thanks.
